The synthetic dream foundation - "Behind the gates of horn and ivory" [24 Apr 2008|07:15pm]

rivetgirlie
The synthetic dream foundation has a new album, entitled "Behind the gates of horn and ivory" coming out at the end of this month. The sound clips on their site sound phenomenal. Anyone else had a chance to listen to the sample mp3s yet? I think this is going to be the best TSDF album yet.

The latest issue of my magazine, THE MICK 43, is now up for free download featuring, as you’ll see from the cover, Anne Sudworth in a seriously in-depth interview, with photos taken at Horace Walpole’s Strawberry Hill House, the home of English Gothic, where Anne is having her current exhibition. You really should see this. A bit special!

Other interviews, in alphabetical order, are with Ars Phoenix, following their ravishing electronic/indie explosion. Attrition on the new claustrophobic album detailing the life and crimes of Britain’s most successful (sic) female mass murderess (and the creepy curio in Martin’s possession). By Blood Alone uncover why their genuinely strange rocky hybrid works with Goth, dperd take us through the moving emotional splendour of their second album proper, and we have Hugo Zombie on life after the Naughty Zombies split, and his mighty debut EP. Moldig try to fathom all the interest coming their way for their album which crosses genres with ease, No Tears are justifiably proud of their excellent second album with its mixture of dark melodic energy and devious lyrical intrigue, and The Stompcrash are similarly excited about their debut, Italian Goth-Punk glory at its finest.

Reviews, I’ve done a few, but then again……

ARE YOU IN A BAND – INFO REQUEST FOR MY NEW BOOK

I am doing a new book on Goth, this time concentrating solely on bands, in the Goth genre itself, and overlapping scenes of Deathrock, Punk Noire, Post-Punk, Ethereal, Heavenly Voices, Faery, Ambient, Dark electronics/folk/country, Neo-classical, Horror Rock, Gothabilly and all the rest. (I am not interested in Neo-folk, club-style electronics/electro, Art-Noise which I see as Indie, or mainstream Industrial which is decorated Rock.)

I am going through all the lists I have assembled to send out info requests but if you see this first and beat me to it then hurrah! Also, for any new bands I may not be aware of you, but once you see this please join in. If you are not in a band but wish to recommend some likely urls please feel free. (Please don’t post any info here but send to the requested locations behind the cut.) Obviously I want this to be a fully International book, which is why I am posting requests worldwide.

Info tucked discreetly away

THE MICK 40 is a beast at 9mb (230 pages) but hopefully makes up for a year in which ill health too often reduced my output, which always prays on my mind like a priest on my head. I know it's not regionally-specific, more International, but I hope people are interested. A couple of hundred reviews, my top 10 Albums of 2007, plus interviews the like of which you simply won’t find in traditional Goth magazines. I have the luxury of space and use it to tease out detail print mags can’t emulate, on top of which I’ve been lucky enough to hit upon the most articulate individuals and the depth is here for all to see – really enjoyable and intriguing, imaginative chats with And Also The Trees, Ataraxia, Cult With No Name, Deadchosvky, Hannah Fury, Niceville, Starcry and Uninvited Guest. Seriously, you’ll love it. Even if you are not into these particular bands, or have yet to encounter them, the way they discuss things will keep you gripped.

Download free from http://www.mickmercer.com/themick.html - just right click as ‘Save Target As’, don’t try and open, that takes ages! Next month I’d like to pop up a request for specific info relating to Goth bands in your area, as I am writing a new book on Goth, concentrating solely on bands, and I want to find as many as possible and particularly anything new.

Calling all musicians... [17 Sep 2007|10:50pm]

Since there doesn't seem to be one yet (that I can find), I have created this....

    [info]ukgothmusicians

It's to help those of us who wear too much black or UV and like to make music, find others who wear too much black or UV and like to make music. Every other forum seems flooded with metalheads and people who still say "Madchester". Seriously, it is not easy finding musicians into our kind of music.

So, if you're a knob-twiddler looking for shouter, or a hitter of things looking for a plucker of stringy things, this is the place for you.

My apologies, but I'm gonna x-post this like hell.

some of the technical launch issues, we will continue to add to our library of albums
so that there will new music in rotation everyday including some smaller, but very
    interesting regional talent.

We also have new sets from DJ Devious, Maus and DJ Xanthus set to premiere
next week. In the next few months, we'll continue this trend with the programming
shifting towards more Djs, more often. You'll hear club sets from England, Germany
    and all over the US.

Hope you’ll forgive using livejournal for a bit of blatant advertising.

The company I work for has just acquired AlterEglow. A website that sells OmniGlow glow sticks (and other stuff) at low prices (£8.93 for 10 6” sticks inc. P&P and Vat). We also don’t mind you popping into the office to buy stuff (but best to phone ahead if you do). Why not have a look at the website. http://www.altereglow.co.uk or ring 01258 457 518
We’re open Monday to Friday 9am to 5:30pm.
P.S. Please tell ‘em Drac sent ya. :)
