Hello everyone, I just saw some very interesting Yarn related news over at Mugglenet. I don't know if anyone's posted about it but I figured everyone here would like it :)

question about scarfs May. 5th, 2008 @ 12:56 pm
[info]kittykat8182001
Hi, I'm new to knitting in general (started in March of this year :) I'm on my second scarf and I have the same problem that I had with the first one. The sides of the scarf are bumpy and not even looking like the rest of the scarfs I see people knit on line. How do you get it to look so clean lined and straight? Sorry if this is hard to understand.

Ron's Red Sweater Feb. 10th, 2008 @ 01:25 pm
[info]spicysaurus
Hi everyone, I'm new both to this group and to knitting in general. I actually got inspired to take up knitting because of the Harry Potter series, and all the fabulous knittery that it contains.

I was wondering if anyone knows where to get a pattern for Ron's red sweater in Prizoner of Azkaban (photo here). I'd love to make it, and I'm sure it's not too tough, but I don't want to forge ahead without some sort of pattern, seeing as I'm a noob.

If there is a free pattern available somewhere, obviously that's best, but I don't mind buying a book. I just haven't been able yet to find any books with this pattern. Lots of Weasley letter sweaters, but not the red one.

Thanks in advance!

overdue posting of an FO Feb. 1st, 2008 @ 01:55 pm

a few weeks before the holiays i it's from Charmed Knits, Bill's wand case, but altered a little.  my son likes to play knight so i turned it into a scabbard for one of his swords.  all i needed to do was make it yellow (his favorite color), lengthen it, and instead of the belt loop, make a tie to go around his waist (he doesn't wear belts).  i've been meaning to borrow Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them from the library again to see if there's a dragon that could account for the yellow color.  we shall see.  i just wanted to share.  :-)  even though it's not technically HP, it's a pattern from the HP knitting book.  it was fun and would've taken me less time had a stayed focused on it better.  but it does look like scales.

» just some HP FO's
hello! i've been mostly a lurker here and i am always very impressed with the FO's of everyone. I have a couple for you.

hope you like em. I plan on embarking on sweaters after i complete a few more objects i have lined up first.
» single sock syndrome is not a problem
when it's a Slytherin Christmas stocking. It's even less of a problem when it's this small and worked up in worsted weight yarn.

There are loads of mini-sock and mini-stocking patterns around, although most use thinner yarn. I decided to make one up as I went along since I wanted to use scraps of worsted weight yarn I've got lying around. This is really just a regular ol' sock, worked up to smaller size and slightly funky proportions. But then, that's pretty much what all mini-socks are. For some reason, though, people seem to like to work a gusseted heel flap instead of a short row heel, and I like the short row heel and toe.

Note, I haven't forgotten about the screencaps. I just haven't gotten around to it. Will do it soon.
» I consider this a Ravenclaw hat
Colorwise, at least. And the owls are a nod to the goddess of wisdom. ;)

Yep, it's the same hat as is in my journal and which I just posted completed on Ravelry. I'm redundant....
» reciprocal woolies
I still do fan crafting, just not much HP lately. This latest bit is HP through devious routes.

» Pattern Help
Here's what I'm looking for: a pattern. Last year, I made the Stitch N' Bitch hat, Hot Head. I followed the k2p2 pattern, and wanted to make a rim so it would flip up in front. So, I switched to stockinette, then I did something wrong, and by the time my beautiful green (I love the color) hat was done, the k2p2 pattern above and below the stockinette did not match up. Plus, when I decreased the top, I got left with a point that makes my head look like a nipple or a condom, depending on your humor. Anyway, if you can help it would be greatly appreciated. I also want it known that this hat is for me, I'm male, and I have a huge head, LOL. Thanks, everyone.

P.S. Started my Weasley sweater, and it's looking great so far, but I want a side project as well. A very wise person (my_wanderlust) told me to have a side project and they're right.
» Scarves
I really want to make my Aunt a Harry Potter Scarf, she got me into the books long ago. And I think the knitted scarves look better than the crocheted ones. The only problem, I don't knit. I got a beginners book to help me out, but I don't know what to start with for the scarf, size needles and what not. Anyone have any ideas, or tips for me?
Thank you

This is a Snape-inspired owl I made for my friend. The face is a little hard to see because of the scarf. X3 Made with the amigurumi method of crochet.

» Hello
New to the community and fairly new to knitting, but definitely not new when it comes to Harry Potter.

I picked up Charmed Knits, and CANNOT WAIT to start my Weasley sweater. However, I have a question.

I live in NJ. Does anyone know where I would get the Jo Sharp Silkroad Aran Tweed yarn? I mean, would they sell it at AC Moore or Michael's?

And if not, what can I get in lieu of this that his a similar consistency and color and feel and whatnot?

Please help. Nice to meet you, I'm Carlos.
» My Crafty Witch Project....
as I have admittedly slacked off this week in my duties as a crafty witch (and yes, I *am* taking the excuse that I am a new kitty mom)....I have finished one VERY important project for the year....

» what do you think...
hi i'm grace. i'm relatively new to knitting and i just got this book:

has anyone used it yet? if so, did you like it? was it very difficult? i'm nervous about making some of the things in there bc i'm not quite as experienced...but just thought i'd ask how it was received.
» It's been a while....
But I thought I would share a just finished piece...

Well, technically it's not *quite* finished as I have to actually cut the yarns and weave in and add tassels....but I had to check with the recipient to see if it was adequate before doing so in case of a redo....

» Paper Mache Ron
I made a paper mache Ron, as a gift in the Pay It Forward meme that's been going around (and because I really wanted [info]melmoe1 to have her own private Ron).

I posted more pics on my LJ, here. Deathly Hallows spoiler!
» Ginny's Sweater/Vest in GoF Movie
While I was watching GoF today, I noticed that in the scene where Ron is upset after asking Fleur to the ball Ginny is wearing what looks like a crocheted vest...or a knit cardigan with a crocheted front.  It looks to me like it might be granny squares or hexagons.  I was just wondering if anyone has been able to find a pattern for this...possibly as a vest.  Sorry the pictures aren't better.
