Dialogues, Updating, Resources
Respectful requests for feedback and suggestions from Sister Shotgun!
And may I say, when I said I thought we could figure out what to do here, I never expected such an amazing and effective outpouring. It's been wonderful!
1. Several of us have discussed the need to communicate with Jon Carroll and the Unitarian group (through one of their representatives), to let them know what we are doing, and to emphasize how much the efforts are done out of respect for principles that we share and not (as some could perhaps take it on a cursory look) mockery. Apparently a couple of members (acting exactly as UJ members should!) have already written Jon C. about this community and gotten the reply that he thinks we are cool (ultimate praise in my generation's lexicon of slang!). If you all feel that I should still email him, I'll be glad to (and would like to tell him how his article energized me); of course, anyone who wishes to email him is encouraged to do so (he published his email address with his article so I assume he welcomes such communication). Thoughts?
2. The Unitarian Church. A member (I'm sorry that I don't remember your name--I should warn you all that I have a terrible memory for names, made harder by the tendency in LJ for people to have multiple ones!) linked to the Unitarian web site in a reply. I enjoyed reading through their web site and considered linking on the User Profile, but then realized that perhaps a disclaimer should be made, and that led to the thought that it might be respectful to communicate with them before so doing.
I am willing to do so although am a bit uncertain what to say. I cannot imagine that the article went unnoticed by Unitarians. However, this community may not be on their radar. Do you think I should email them and what, in the main, should be the purpose of the message? I would see on purpose as saying, more or less: "hello, we admire your philosophy and wish to take it into the world in many ways, please let us know if you see any problems with our use of your name."
3. The User Info Page. This page is being continually updated and will continue to be so. If you have suggestions for mottos (especially if you posted in one of the threads), please feel free to link to them in your reply here or state them, and I'll add. Ditto with interests. And related to that issue comes the question of: Resources.
4. People have already begun sharing resources--links, authors, web sites. It dawns on me that one thing I could easily do is put together a Resources Page that pulls together resources (in any media) for members and any others who are interested. I'd backdate and post this page at the "top" of the community and put a link to the page in the User Profile so people will not have to wade through an increasing number of posts/threads. So if you have names, titles, addresses, URL's, etc. that you think would be a useful resource, please send them to me by email or post in response.
5. Cells/branches/affiliates. The
uk_cell has been recognized and put under "Affiliate" link on the info page. More cells are welcome (under any name that suits).
