Subject:Submit to Bartleby!
Posted by:lokklyn.
Time:10:28 pm.
Bartleby, UMBC's creative journal, is accepting student submissions in art, poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction!
The winner in each category receives $100— I encourage all you talented artists and writers to submit your best works. The deadline is December 1st. Being published looks great on your resume. Don't miss your chance to be included in Bartleby 2009.

Visit http://www.umbcbartleby.org for more information. You can e-mail your submissions to bartleby at umbc dot edu

I'm the art editor this year — if you have any questions about art submissions, feel free to ask. Email me at hz1 at umbc dot edu. I've seen some amazing art from UMBC students, and I expect to see all of it submitted to Bartleby.

My friend Melissa is doing the suicide prevention walk in DC this Saturday and would like to raise 200$ for the cause. If you could donate to help her reach her goal, that would be lovely. It is a great cause! Any amount helps! (if you can)

please forward this to anyone you think would donate 1$ or two. :)

Thanks,
Katie

hey, in case you haven't discovered it for yourself, it's now possible to get a filling, balanced vegan meal in the Commons. That place around the corner from the tex-mex place (kinda behind the coffee shop) sells a rotating variety of "ethnic" foods, and right now they're on Mediterranean. there's never a line for some reason, and for $6.35 you can get a roasted vegetable pita sandwich with falafel and hummus and a drink if you want it. six bucks is more than I like to spend, but it was honestly more food than I could even eat. two falafels with pita is only like a buck fifty, and hummus (not bad) with pita is like two.

just so you know.

Hello,

I'm currently living off campus for the Fall semester but I'm trying to live in Walker Avenue for the winter semester.
I was wondering how many people on here would be going home for winter break or graduating in December? So I can see if there would be any spots in Walker.

Posted by:jthhtj1088.
Time:12:57 pm.
Hey people,

Just wondering if anyone has done any studying abroad, and more specifically through the art department.

What's like a rough timeline for planning and getting stuff organized for a semester abroad?

I keep emailing the professor the art dept's website says is involved in the program, but I never get a response.

Thanks!

Subject:FREE ART 220 and 221 text! Stokstad's Art History
Posted by:skertrevir.
Time:8:42 pm.
Hi everyone!

I have a hardcover two-volume-in-one-book copy of Stokstad's Art History, the text for ART 220 and 221. I'm giving it away for FREE since I bought it a gazillion years ago for 30 bucks when I still went to UMBC and now I want to get rid of it. The book is totally readable, but the cover is disconnected from the spine on one side. Who cares, it's free! And from what I saw on the UMBC bookstore site, that's a deal.

The catch? I live in Columbia. I don't really have time to drop it off at UMBC-- you will have to come and get it during an evening. Sorry, folks.

If you want it, e-mail me at sarahbarah at gmail dot com.

Question...

I've been given permission to for two classes by the instructor. Yet when I come to add them to my schedule, I keep getting a message saying I need permission from the instructor!

Any ideas on how to fix this, who to talk to...

Also, does anyone know when we can get the books for classes from the bookstore?

Cheers me dears

Ian.

Subject:housing
Posted by:rejoicingapathy.
Time:4:39 pm.
Hello!

My little brother, Caleb, is an incoming freshman at UMBC this year. Unfortunately, even though he is convinced that he turned in his housing application, UMBC is convinced that he did not. The waiting list is currently over 300 people long, so unless they magically find his application, he is going to need off-campus housing.

Anyone else looking for off-campus housing?

I was recommending him toward Westland Gardens or Colony Hills, but it would be much more manageable with a roommate or two. He does have a car, but I think he should live pretty close to campus. However, he's not really in a place to be picky. He will be a reliable source of rent (my father is quite prompt) and generally an outgoing, geeky boy who loves chess and rubix cubes.

Subject:Viewsonic 20.1" VX2025VM Monitor for sale
Posted by:lokklyn.
Time:9:07 am.
I'm selling a used Viewsonic 20.1" widescreen LCD monitor for $150 because I'm upgrading to a 30". I've used this primarily for print-ready illustrations (for the newspaper's comics, for art prints, etc), but I've also used it for gaming and watching movies (no ghosting issues, yay). The monitor has a great viewing angle, and an excellent color gamut. Comes with a DVI and VGA cable, and maybe some software. I bought this for $400 a few years ago. Hooray for depreciation!

Here's the model:
http://www.viewsonic.com/products/desktopdisplays/lcddisplays/xseries/vx2025wm/
And some random review I googled. http://www.geek.com/viewsonic-vx2025wm-lcd-display/

Reply to this or send me an email if you're interested. Feel free to ask questions. hz1 at umbc dot edu
I live in Walker - you can schedule a pick up with me whenever, but I won't ship this monitor.

I also have a 19" Hyundai monitor that I can sell. It's standard resolution. I don't have the specs on hand, but it's a solid monitor.

Oh yeah, I may be selling my 12" Cintiq tablet because I don't feel like I'm maximizing its potential. It's in pretty good condition. There are a few scratches on the edges, and a small scratch on the screen. I put an anti-scratch, anti-glare screen protector on it to counteract future scratches. I'll give you a marginally better deal if you feel like trading in a well-functioning Intuos 3 at 6x8, since mine is on the brink of death. The smallest Cintiqs retail for about $1k.

Subject:the importance of undergraduate commencement...
Posted by:shugar687.
Time:3:04 pm.
Hey folks... I can't believe I've been asking dumb questions here since high school, and now I've only got 1 year left at UMBC.

I recently found out about a VERY compelling volunteer/internship that I'd like to apply for, for after I graduate.

The only problem is that it has a strict May 18/19 start date, and our final exams end the 20th, with a commencement on the 21st.

Two questions:
1) Anyone have any luck persuading professors to move an exam backwards? I'll have 2 rigid exam finals (not essays) at most, and I'm hoping they happen on the 17th or before... Even the 17th is fine. I'd ask my professors this literally in February (not May ;)...
2) Is Commencement that bigga deal? My twin sister is graduating on May 10th from another institution, so my family will get their fair share of Commencement fun... Will I avoid paying for robes and crap? Do a lot of people miss it?
