Subject:Sentinel too
Security:Public

Hi,

my TS mailing lists have all gone very quiet, so I'm trying to find my way around LJ and see how things are here.

I hadn't watched Sentinel too for a long time (our daughter was too young to watch TS during the original run and is now very much into it) and have to
say, the ending of part one still brings back the same powerful feelings.

Is there anyone still around who remembers
the disbelief and uproar when we found out the
show would not come back?

I still almost can't believe we managed to bring
the show back for another half season and got the
second part that brought Blair back to life! :)

I hate making phone calls (we didn't have a phone
until I was 11 years old, and I never quite "made
friends" with phones) and my English was not all
that great at that point yet (am from Germany),
but I joined the "Save Our Sentinel" efforts and
called the network multiple times.

Just imagine what would have become of the fandom,
had the show ended with part one of S2!

Subject:RPS in The Sentinel Fandom?
Security:Public

I was reading a [info]metafandom post on fans who try to discuss RPS and slashy manips with the actual musicians it's about when I ran across a comment about RPS in The Sentinel. *screeching halt* Wait! What?

I've only been in TS fandom since 2003 and, from various comments and the fact I've never stumbled across it, I assumed the statement that RPS never existed in The Sentinel was true. Now it appears that it did exist but was underground. I think that's a bit of TS fannish history that shouldn't be lost.

ETA: Edited above to remove 'forced to go' underground since I don't actually know what the reason might be.
ETA: I have to leave the house for a couple of hours so will not be able to respond to more comments until later.

ETA2: I'm just going to remind people that reviews/discussion of individual fics are not welcome in this comm. The mod could end up deleting this post if you do bring up specifics. Also, I'm not going to respond to posts about whether RPS should exist in a legal/moral sense because, whatever my opinion, Elvis has left the building. It exists. Apparently, even in TS fandom. I'm just interested in recovering a bit of history.

ETA3: It looks like this will be in the next edition of [info]metafandom so if someone you don't recognize responds to one of your comments, that'll be why. Hopefully, somebody who was actually involved will see it and be interested in telling us what their RPS experience was like back then. Because clearly none of us newbies know anything about it. *g*

Where is Sierra Verde? I thought it was in Mexico. Becky's transcripts says it is in Mexico. Yet half the stories I've read that reference Sen2 talk about chasing Alex to Peru and visiting the temple in Peru. So where is it?

Subject:Fun with father
Security:Public

Lo, I am in need of distraction. I have to do some research before I tackle the last bit of my spook-me story, so naturally I'm here doing something completely different.

Speculation about Blair's father. It's an unending source of fic and fanon. Candy Apple declared Starsky to be Blair's dad; Glacis made Blair's father Ray Doyle of The Professionals. (So, I think did Gil Hale.) Alyjude plunked for Thomas Magnum. I'm pretty sure that McGyver and/or Jack O'Neil have 'appeared' in the role. Plus Bill Ellison (ewww, because I'm not a 'cest fan) and even Jim Ellison himself (but absolutely only if its gen).

Canon offers Timothy Leary as Blair's speculation, and fanon looks at canon and considers Jimi Hendrix. I have a passing fondness for declaring Jim Morrison the culprit - there's a definite similarity in both appearance and some personality characteristics. There are kindly dads, and evil dads and tragic dads.

So, who's your favourite celebrity (either real or fictional) father for Blair, and what's your favourite Blair finds his Dad story? Mine, probably not a big surprise, is Reunions by Glacis/Sue Castle found on this index page. And for evil dad, well Fluterbev and Polly Bywater have ably produced slimy, horrible villains, here and here. (And if you want to read those stories unspoiled then approach them without running your mouse over the links, eh?)

Subject:Question about The Trance...
Security:Public

Does anyone have ANY idea what Corrina Santiago says to Blair when they're recreating the bembe ceremony towards the end of The Trance?  I checked the transcripts, but it just has "She says something in Cuban".   Anything folks have would be useful; it would really help me with a fic I'm working on...

Thanks!

Since this is my first attempt to make a songvid I would love to know what you think about it. I don't have all eps to work with, so my choices of clips to use were reduced.

Constructive criticism is more than welcome...

Thanks for watching :)

Subject:I was thinking .. and that is dangerous
Security:Public

I'm thinking out loud here and looking for comments.

I've been in the fandom now for two and half years.  In thinking of what my dad had done as a hobby over the years I was wondering.

Was there or is there a snail mail Sentinel club?

Would anyone be interested in a snail mail club.

If you could get zine like stories, drabbles, and other information from fellow members, like Moonridge, recounts, movie reviews in paper form.  Someone editing it to have on hand in the bathroom (Starwatcher made a whole cabinet system for her notebooks for some light reading)

I'm thinking a feature picture for a cover, a feature story, a contest with entries, articles, maybe some advertising appropriate to find Sentinel material.

Why am I thinking of this?  Because we are so computer driven.  All we get in the mail is bills and spam mail.  Lets go back to basics and see that we can do.

Would you be willing to pay .. 10.00, 15.00 or 20.00 for yearly membership?

We could have a spot light for another show each issue, we all have other fandoms we like.

Of course a venture like this could not be done alone, is anyone interested in contributing to such an idea?

Of course this will take some time to plan.  But I think it's viable.

Chime in.

Sentinel Secrets ... Wave 8

The theme for Wave 8 is "Celebration"

Write a story that is some celebration.  It could be a birthday, a party for Blair's dissertation, a wake even to celebrates one's life.  But I want to some a celebration of life.

The story can be any length.

you email it to sentinelsecrets @ gmail . com  to me.

I'll post it the first of August and fellow readers can guess and comment up to August 15th.

The revealing of authors will be done after that.

We have been doing this for over three years now and some great stories and themes have come about.  Don't for get to check us out to read past stories.

Look forward to the entries.

This community is a place for TS fans to discuss the characters, the episodes, and anything else relating to the show. What’s your favorite episode? Why? What kind of changes do you see in Jim and Blair over the course of the series? Is there a particular season you liked best? Least? Did you like the way the series ended? Why or why not? Whether you think of Jim and Blair in terms of slash or as deeply devoted friends, this is the place where you can air your thoughts and opinions about Jim and Blair and Simon and Naomi and spirit animals merging and why some fanon has Blair portrayed as such a wimp when he's obviously anything but a wimp on the show.

What this community is not: An announcement community. I know you’re excited about the story you just posted, or an upcoming Sentinel-related event. But announcements such as ficathons, new/updated websites, upcoming events, stories/vids/fanart, etc., belong at [info]ts_news, not here. Announcements will be deleted without warning and repeat offenders will be banned from posting.

This is also not the place to discuss/review fic. Discussion of the show is what this community is all about, and mentioning a fic is fine in that context. But straight-up reviews are off-topic. Again, posts of that nature will be deleted without warning and repeat offenders will be banned from posting.

Apologies for no notes last week, and late notes this week. I've been busy and very distracted by the Magnificent Seven fandom that's got me obsessed right now.

And, my recollection is that this episode is *really* annoying. Except the kid. I remember that she was pretty cool!

Which makes it tough to whomp up a whole lot of enthusiasm for watching it.

After-watching note: Well, it was rather more enjoyable than I remembered it being. I mean Naomi's in full on incense-huffing dingbat mode, which I find exasperating. And Charlie Spring is a repugnant ass.

But somehow the episode manages to be pretty watchable anyway. A B-, perhaps a C+.

Oh, Smart Alec. Spiders and annoying teenagers and Mayan pottery. To it's credit it also has three entirely fine female characters (yay!) and it's mostly set at Rainier University, which is actually pretty cool.

So, okay.

(Is it just me or is this part of the season sort of a doldrums or something. Like the wonderful run of Blind Man's Bluff and Hear No Evil and Secret and Dead Drop were from February sweeps or something and we're now in the doldrums of March, where the *eh* episodes go to die.)

Just a heads up, for entirely unrelated to anything reasons, I'm feeling pretty cranky tonight. So I can already tell I'm being pretty cranky about the plot holes and so on.

On with the show!!

After watching notes: Not much to say but "eh" actually. Except that I did totally love how comfortable Jim is on campus (speaks to him spending a lot of time there) and there was one scene where I was squealing in slashy delight.

Hey all -

I live in Chicago, and today, Mr. Adrian Coyote, a year and a half old, felt like he wanted some fresh prime rib, and stopped by a Quizno's in the downtown loop. The first thing I thought of was Blair's animal spirit wanting a quick lunch... :)

How cute is he??!!! :) Mairead027

"He will be transported to the Flint Creek Wildlife Rehab center north of Barrington, a large, fenced-in area where he and other transplanted urban coyotes can roam the limited prairie -- without benefit of a nearby Quiznos." I don't remember this as a bad episode, but I don't remember it as an especially good episode either. Serviceable and watchable, but not spectacular. Hopefully my memory is wrong. :D

After-watching notes: Nope, I had it pretty much spot on. It is possible that the science is completely whacked, but since I don't *know* that (I just suspect it strongly), I'll just stick with an overall B- rating. Perhaps I'll round that up to a B on the strength of one delightfully slashy moment.

With the exception of two minutes of wincing horror I love this episode. Love it love it love it!! I love Jim's intensity as he's freaking out about Blair. I love Simon so solid in his knowledge of how much Blair means to Jim. I love Blair, providing a wonderful almost guiding presence to the other people in the elevator. Mucho swooning around on the slashy happy place fainting couch, which is a *good* thing.

All just wonderful!

I'm not going to say anything about the two minutes of wincing horror.

Lots of screencaps, because Jim and Blair are both *so* gorgeous here.
