[info]seven_of_nine and Tuvok both seem to be recovering nicely from their recent ordeals. (Although [info]emh has renewed his objections to, as he calls it, 'reckless and indiscrimate uses of mind-melds' in the future).

To celebrate, I've asked [info]_neelix_ to arrange a party in the Mess Hall. 1800 hours, and I expect to see all of you (those who are off-duty, at any rate) there.

Attention all hands [07 Oct 2003|03:45am]

kathrynjaneway
As many of you are already aware, we have made steady progress on the ongoing slipstream drive project in recent months. In fact, we are ready to begin the testing phase. All signs are very encouraging; in fact, it is with guarded optimism that I say we may be closer now to getting home than we have at any previous point in our journey.

However, I must also caution against unduly raised hopes which may yet be dashed. We can't lose sight of the fact that there is no 'sure thing', particularly in the Delta Quadrant. There are still a number of unknown variables concerning the slipstream drive and its performance. We will of course know more within the next several days, as the preliminary test data is analyzed. I promise to keep you all posted. Janeway out.

A Blank Canvas [30 Aug 2003|05:37pm]

_tom_paris_
[ mood | busy ]

I took a break from writing reports to check the LJ system.

I've been swamped with work (mostly reports for the Captain), so you'll need to excuse me if I seemed more than a little busy.

B'Elanna and I decided two journals are better than one, so I was able to pull a few strings, and there you have it, my own journal!

(I hope this will cut down the number of times people stop me to ask "Why did you write that?" when B'Elanna did. If I had a bar of Latinum for every time I've had to hear that one...)

Regarding the use of the name "Alpine" in the Data situation. [14 Aug 2003|01:31am]

qcontinuum
I have agreed with the person who plays Alpine that since he does not agree with what we intend to do with his character, we will not reference his character by name.

No player should refer to Data's mysterious friend by name from this point forward.

I'm a tad bored. I don't have a TNG sock, so I'm rather on the sidelines for the fun of the upcoming plots there. As a result, I've decided...

...Does anyone want icons? I've noticed that a lot of people seem to only have one icon, or smallish and rather fuzzy icons. And I'm pretty decent at icon making. I'd love to make some for people.

So, if you want a set, let me know in the comments and I'll whip them out.

OOC Announcement. [11 Aug 2003|02:10pm]

qcontinuum
[info]commanderdata is no longer considered a gaming sock, and should be defriended by sock journals.

If the player chooses to give the journal back to the game so it can be re-assigned, I will notify you all. For now, however, I am working on the assumption that she will be keeping the journal and we will be creating a new Data sock journal.

The player has been notified of this change in private email.

Admin stuff. [08 Aug 2003|11:07am]

qcontinuum
As Tori (Kira, for those who don't know) said, since I have the time and energy for attempting to moderate this thing, such as it is, and she doesn't, I have taken over as group moderator.

Due to recent events, we've all, I think, become aware that simply signing up anyone who creates a journal with a Star Trek character's name may not be the best way to go about running any kind of coherent roleplay. I believe that Tori is working on an application we will request that people submit before they can run a new character (unless you already have a sock here, in which case we trust you. :-)) Since I don't have the kind of online roleplay experience she does, I don't feel I can do that myself. I am going to investigate turning this into a closed community (ie, I need to approve membership before someone can join) so we can essentially control who's "playing" and who's just out there by themselves in LJ land doing their own thing.

I would like to establish some simple rules to make it easier for all of us.

This was obnoxiously long, so I put it behind a cut tag. )

I'm stepping down as admin of the game-- mostly because I don't have the attention span for it like I did in the first month or so. [info]alara_r is your new admin. She's been here since the beginning, more or less, and is very dedicated and tireless, and I'm glad to be playing under her reign.

...this seems like the best place to do it. I wanted to do it in public, so that we can generally clear the air. Although e-mail is more polite, a lot of people are rather upset and I want them to be able to see the decision process too.

A lot of people are seriously concerned about how [info]commanderdata is being played. It concerns, particularly the Next Gen characters, that Data never mentions them by name, and that he spends all his time with the furry characters--who are not canon for Star Trek. It also concerns the rest of us, because rather than a skewed portrait done clearly for humor purposes, like that of [info]symbiont_dax or [info]doctorbashir. Data is also acting very out of character-- more like he did when he first got the emotion chip, rather than in the period before Nemesis.

At this point, the group feels we have two options: either you resolve this as a plot, and have Data return to what would be normal behaviour for him, or we'd like it if you could hand us back the journal, and continue playing with your furry friends elsewhere.

As several people have already spoken to you about this, I feel it is only fair for this to be your last and final warning. If you fail to respond, we'll be forced to let your journal go, and cast a new Data. Please know that we appreciate the time you've spent these few weeks with us, but we'd prefer it if the character you were playing resembled the character we were expecting to receive.

At work, fidgety, hyped up on sugar, and bored. [24 Jul 2003|12:32pm]

[ mood | bouncy ]

OOC: The party was fun!:) I had to cut out because Alpine (RL friend of mine, and he really is as weird as I portray...be scared.) and I went to Anthrocon and spent the next few days going crazygonuts.

Anyway, I'm bored and I wanna RP. Can we do another scenario? How about the ship goes under attack or something and it's a big huge dangerous firey mess or something? Or maybe Data winds up taking his newfound bouncy streak too far and causes some big catastrophic to-do?

Also, is Alara the GM? Or can anyone start something?

PARTY! [13 Jul 2003|09:04pm]

qcontinuum
OOC: The following people are now at Q's party. If you are not on this list, and want to be, just show up and we'll assume that either Q brought you or you got a ride from someone else. (IE, Q cannot actually transport [info]thesisko to the party but Sisko could get a ride from [info]the_prophets.) If you are Picard, you won't be on this list. See below.

TNG: [info]will_riker, [info]geordi_laforge, [info]cnslrdeannatroi, [info]wes_crusher, [info]commanderdata, [info]_spot_, [info]drcrusher
DS9: [info]kiranerys, [info]constableodo, [info]doctorbashir, [info]ezridax, [info]symbiont_dax, [info]smiley_miles, [info]botanist_keiko, [info]hotmutantbabe, [info]ohthedarkness
VOY: [info]kathrynjaneway, [info]chakotay, [info]paristorres (both of them), [info]harrykim, [info]seven_of_nine, [info]_tuvok_, [info]emh, [info]neelix, [info]naomiwildman
Multiseries and Interdimensionals: Worf (despite not having an LJ), [info]ltbarclay, [info]_charlie_x_, [info]amanda_the_q
Specifically not invited: [info]madame_guinan

Party posts should go in [info]trekjournals as either a response to this thread or their own threads. Party posts are in verbose roleplaying mode-- ie, these are not posts made by characters to their LJ but are essentially roleplaying.

For everyone but Picard, this is the scene:

You are standing on a smooth marble surface, tiled in black and white. The black tiles have white swirls through them, the white tiles have black. The surface appears to go on forever. There is no visible horizon. Over your head there is no visible ceiling-- nothing but stars. Prismatic, crystalline structures float in the sky above your heads, maybe 20 meters above, glittering in reflected starlight. There is no visible source of light aside from the stars and yet the area is not dark; you can see perfectly in all spectra you are used to seeing on your home planets.

A short distance away, wide marble stairs lead down into a very, very wide pit, about 3 meters down, whose floor is transparent. Stars are visible below it. Anyone with a tricorder will quickly discover that there is in fact air and gravity, equal to Earth normal for both, but in the pit, gravity is lunar equivalent-- you can leap and almost float in the pit. The sounds of a stately waltz are audible in the pit.

Back up on the main floor, a short distance away in another direction, there is a huge table, perhaps eight meters long, covered with a shimmering white silk tablecloth. Underneath the tablecloth, if you look, the table seems to be made of a single slab of faintly pink crystal carved into a table. It has legs only at its corners, but for some reason does not buckle in the middle despite having no obvious support there. Any food you can imagine is on the table, sitting in chilled silver dishes, lying on china plates, bubbling in hotpots that appear to be elaborately carved and ancient transparasteel pots from the T'kon Empire, or caged in the appropriate tubs, tanks, or whatever else you might store live food in.

About four meters away from the table there's a bar. It serves anything you can imagine to drink. Anything. The bartenders are, to put it charitably, eye candy. A beautiful blonde humanoid woman with very pale skin, wearing essentially a bikini top and a wraparound skirt, a short, slim redhaired woman wearing a pirate costume, a slender young humanoid man with caramel-colored skin and long white hair wearing a white robe akin to a samurai costume, and a handsome, beefy humanoid male with no shirt and very tight breeches. If you're an empath, you get sensation from them but all you'll get is that they want to make you happy and get you the drinks you want.

Everyone is wearing Terran-standard formal evening attire. If you're a male, you're in a tux. If you're female, you're in an evening gown, and probably wearing some sort of decorative jewelry. Any pieces of jewelry you would ordinarily wear or not wear because of religious or cultural significance, you're either wearing or not wearing depending on what you would have chosen to do personally. Everyone's shoes feel comfortable despite being fancy dress shoes.

On the other side of the pit with lowered gravity and waltz music, there is a raised dais, about a meter in height. No one is on it.

For [info]cptpicard:

You are in a maze of smooth white marble walls striated with pink. The floor is smooth marble surface, tiled in black and white. The black tiles have white swirls through them, the white tiles have black. Above your head there's nothing but a diffuse whiteness-- there's no apparent ceiling but you actually can't see anything at all except a white glow that appears to have no defined upper limit. You're wearing a formal dress uniform. You're alone.

OOC: Q is having a party. [08 Jul 2003|01:52pm]

qcontinuum
Regardless of the wishes of the *character*, if the *player* is going to be around at all starting from next Sunday (7/13) and wants to be there, let me know and your character will be "invited" whether they like it or not. :-) Or, if you're not going to be around but don't have an objection to your character being dragged off to the party, let me know that too. There's certain people who don't get to play often that I'd have a hard time explaining why I *didn't* invite them.

All I will promise is: no tights. :-) Also, no major interference with anyone's continuity.

What can I say, I'm impatient. I divided the list into two groups: active socks, based on the responses I got to the other post, and on whom I've seen leaving comments and so forth in the last two weeks or so, or the socks of people I know have been around: (IE: Geordi and Will have the same player, so they're both active, even though I haven't seen Riker post in a while.) The other list is less active socks: basically, everyone else.

I did this on the fly, so it may have errors. If you're on the less active list, just post something and then I'll switch you over. If you know the people on the less active list, feel free to poke them to coming back.

I'm terribly sorry. I've been an awful group admin lately. But I have considerably more free time now that I'm out and free from the clutches of high school, so expect more of Kira and the symbiont.

Also: I need a list of whom is active for a new castlist. If you're active and you know it, leave a comment. ;) Also, a vote: should we dump, and recast those who have gone inactive? Let me know.

OOC: I have something for Crusher and the Traveler! [19 Jun 2003|02:51pm]

[ mood | accomplished ]

Ok, I noticed that Dr. Crusher and the Traveler don't have lj icons. Looking around the net, I realized that it is almost impossible to find pictures of the Traveler.

So, I went and did some screen capturing. A lot of screen capturing. I have several possible icons now, all sized for lj, if you guys are interested. Just let me know.
