First time poster here ...

I just got this article from my brother, and felt compelled to push it here too. (Sorry if someone's posted it already.) But his comment was that it's "Even better than Obama in KJV."

Arrogant Environmentalism by George Carlin
Heard this on my favorite local morning program, The Vicki McKenna Show and perfectly explains why I get frustrated with environmentalists (and can't understand why my geology professors are all wrapped up in the global warming craze, too.)

Warning: Some strong language (it's George Carlin, people!), so maybe turn down your work speakers.

Dark Knight vs Titanic
The Dark Knight has grossed over 222 million dollars in just a week according to joblo.com. SWEET. What did you all think of the movie? I thought it was really REALLY well done in every way and I could do into details but that's not the point of this post.

Some are suggesting that maybe...MAYBE the Dark Knight might break the all time record of Titanic. Heck it's been now over ten years and no one has come close to getting Titanic's record of over 600 million dollars. I'm curious, anyone here think that Batman has a chance? I think he does so long as we keep believing! Heck lets all go see it again and again to help it knock Leo Dicaprio and that overrated movie from its throne! LOL

I thought you'd all enjoy some words from the wonderful G.K. Chesterton that very aptly apply to liberals.

The Jacobin could tell you not only the system he would rebel against, but (what was more important) the system he would not rebel against, the system he would trust. But the new rebel is a sceptic, and will not entirely trust anything. He has no loyalty; therefore he can never be really a revolutionist. And the fact that he doubts everything really gets in his way when he wants to denounce anything. For all denunciation implies a moral doctrine of some kind; and the modern revolutionist doubts not only the institution he denounces, but the doctrine by which he denounces it. Thus he writes one book complaining that imperial oppression insults the purity of women, and then he writes another book (about the sex problem) in which he insults it himself. He curses the Sultan because Christian girls lose their virginity, and then curses Mrs. Grundy because they keep it. As a politician, he will cry out that war is a waste of life, and then, as a philosopher, that all life is waste of time. A Russian pessimist will denounce a policeman for killing a peasant, and then prove by the highest philosophical principles that the peasant ought to have killed himself. A man denounces marriage as a lie, and then denounces aristocratic profligates for treating it as a lie. He calls a flag a bauble, and then blames the oppressors of Poland or Ireland because they take away that bauble. The man of this school goes first to a political meeting, where he complains that savages are treated as if they were beasts; then he takes his hat and umbrella and goes on to a scientific meeting, where he proves that they practically are beasts. In short, the modern revolutionist, being an infinite sceptic, is always engaged in undermining his own mines. In his book on politics he attacks men for trampling on morality; in his book on ethics he attacks morality for trampling on men. Therefore the modern man in revolt has become practically useless for all purposes of revolt. By rebelling against everything he has lost his right to rebel against anything.

This is from Orthodoxy, which is hilarious when I understand it and confusing when I don't. Also, three cheers for Project Gutenberg, because it meant I didn't have to type this whole thing out!

I love this ad. Its cute, but its effective, I think. However, its on McCain's website, so again I feel like he's preaching to the choir. Why isn't he out there putting the rubber to the pavement and attempting to get traction with voters? I am hoping that he'll get serious and whip out the big guns after the RNC, because as correct and effective as some of these ads may be, they do squat if people don't see them.

Two things:

One, I cannot get over the media and Obamania's World Tour (don't forget, he's scheduled in Germany still). I have been avoiding watching the news because I can't stand how they're worshiping him and every camera angle features The Messiah and at least eight-dozen media, cameras-a-flashing. Ugh.

Two, as I was driving home from work tonight and listening to J.D. Hayworth, he brought up a story about a local Mexican-to-American immigrant who changed his name from "Juan" to "John" as a sign of his assimilation. This man is campaigning to be put on the ticket as a Democrat spot for a position in one of the precincts here. He's doing what we always tell people to do: if you don't like things, run for office and change them and I have to say that takes guts. He gave a little introduction speech, which was played on the radio, where he outlined his life story and his ambitions should he make it to office. I noted that he's been here 15 years, yet his accent is still so thick I could barely understand him. The real kicker here, and this will knock your teeth out, is that when it came to his Q&A session on his stance on the issues, he asked for an interpreter because he felt more comfortable answering the questions in Spanish.

W. T. H.

This man isn't able to communicate effectively in English, the language of our government, yet he's running for office? He shouldn't even be up for consideration, yet there is a good possibility he could get on the ticket, such is the climate here. This is why we need to have an official language (not just a "national" language) and we must mandate than anyone who wants to hold public office must be fluent and able to conduct all business in English. Yet, we don't. And here it is - a man whom the majority of the citizens in this country cannot understand having a decent shot at public office. Its a small and relatively insignificant seat, to be sure, but everyone starts somewhere. Oh, and of course he's an open-borders advocate, too, so he'd be working towards getting more of the same. Had I been at that forum (it was open to the public), I would have interrupted it the minute he started speaking Spanish and made my case.

I'm really getting sick of hearing about being "Green."
"I'll Be Just Fine, Says Planet"

THE planet Earth has dismissed claims it is in danger from global warming, stressing the worst that could happen is the extinction of the human race.

The Earth spoke out after a series of books, television programmes and environmental campaigns urged people to do everything in their power to 'Save the Planet'.

Earth, 4,000,000,000, said last night: "I'll be absolutely fine, seriously. I might get a bit warmer and a bit wetter, but to be honest, that actually sounds quite nice.

"Try living through an ice age. Pardon my French, but it's absolutely fucking freezing."

The planet, based 93 million miles from the Sun, said it was 'sick and tired' of being drawn into arguments about human behaviour.

"Look, I'm just a planet doing its thing, alright? If you want to live on me, that's your business, but I've got important planet stuff to do, okay?

"Try being in elliptical orbit for five minutes, or balancing your gravitational pull with a medium-sized moon. Let me assure you, it's no fucking picnic."

The planet said environmental campaigners should change their slogan from 'Save the Planet' to something more relevant such as 'Save Your Sorry Arse'.

Earth added: "Okay, so there may come a time when, for a variety of reasons, I am no longer able to support pandas, polar bears, and humans, but you know what? Life goes on.

"Who knows, I might end up being a haven for toads."

Dragon*Con
How many of you here are going to Dragon*Con this year? Do we have enough for a meet-up?

I'm on staff for the Science Fiction & Fantasy Literature track and will be portraying C.S. Lewis at our Dead Authors Society presentation on Saturday night. Please come on down if you're in the neighborhood!

Also, for the B5 fans in residence: Jerry Doyle is on the guest list. As a B5 fan, I reacted to this news with only moderate interest (though I like him, Garibaldi is not my favorite character); however, as a right fangirl, I squealed. Doyle is one of us, you guys! Oh, Great Maker, for that reason alone, I want to go meet him. *g*

When you start agreeing with Democrats in San Fran.....
Well, a new measure has now qualified for the November ballot in San Francisco. And it'll likely help draw out city voters from the Democratic and from the Republican party, all three of them there.

It's the measure to rename the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant, which treats waste water from San Francisco's west side, the George W. Bush Sewage Plant in an effort to embarrass the president for actions such as the Iraq war.
link

At first I just thought this was really amusing and proved how far the Dems in San Francisco had gone round the bend. Then, I came to realize that it's the nicest thing they've ever done for the man and they aren't far off the mark. What better symbolism for this president? The facility that cleans up and controls the sh....nasty stuff they flush and want to, or do, forget (or pretend it doesn't exist in the first place) and makes it safe and sometimes even usable - that really does about sum up his presidency.

Safer world, safer water, courtesy of your president, whether you like it or not San Fran.

Defending the American Dream
I'm at a conservative blogging conference in Austin, TX today, and I thought some of you may be interested in following the activities. I'm liveblogging the event at http://blue-dot-blues.blogspot.com/

Among the speakers today are Merrie Spaeth (mastermind behind the Swift Boat Veterans Against Kerry), Michael Steele, Michelle Malkin, and many more. Last night, we heard from Barry Goldwater, Jr. and Robert Novak.

This is the very first event of this kind for conservatives in the United States. It will not be the last.

Wham Bam Thank you, Ma'am!

Awesome. This is what we should be doing...just stringing together Obama's own words and let him dig his own grave. Why aren't these commercials on TV? I know this is too long to be a commercial, but there is similar stuff out there and this is on JohnMcCain.com....isn't that the wrong place for this stuff to languish, as Obama supporters aren't going to visit McCain's site for their info?

Oh, and a comment I found regarding this video on the Miami Herald:

"I plan to research the fact before assuming the above video is factual.

The facts are often distorted or taken out of context to fool voters"

Damn.

Texas to World Court: Execution still on!
Father of victim says U.N. body's order 'don't mean diddly'

Jose Medellin

Texas is refusing to bow to yesterday's World Court order to stay the Aug. 5 lethal injection of convicted rapist-killer and illegal alien Jose Medellin.

The highest U.N. court insisted that five scheduled executions of Mexicans be immediately halted until the cases undergo further review. Mexico's government filed a petition with the court last month because it said the men had been deprived of assistance from their consulates following their arrests.

According to Geneva Convention rules, illegal aliens must have access to their national consulates once they have been detained.

The U.N. court order echoes statements made by Mexico that "Texas has made clear that unless restrained, it will go forward with the execution without providing Mr. Medellin the mandated review and reconsideration," which will "irreparably" violate U.S. obligations to the World Court's 2004 directive, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Citing "the paramount interest in human life," Mexico said it would "for forever be deprived of the opportunity to vindicate its rights and those of the nationals concerned" if Medellin's execution continues as scheduled.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry's office rejected Mexico's complaint.

"The world court has no standing in Texas, and Texas is not bound by a ruling or edict from a foreign court," Perry spokesman Robert Black said. "It is easy to get caught up in discussions of international law and justice and treaties. It's very important to remember that these individuals are on death row for killing our citizens."

======================

Could this be a critical first step in gradually wresting ourselves free of the U.N.? Even the most difficult journey begins with a single step, even if it is a small one.

Love of money over love of country? American goes to play for the Russian basketball team in the Olympics.

Guard's decision sparks controversy

Hammon to play for Russia in Beijing Games

San Antonio point guard Becky Hammon has been the face, the exclamation point, in a complicated debate about country, flag, rubles, dollars and, above all, the Olympics since the WNBA star from the American heartland decided to play for Russia at the Beijing Games.

"The Olympics are different today," said Mercury General Manager Ann Meyers Drysdale, a 1976 Olympian who will report on women's basketball as an NBC analyst in Beijing. "They're not our mothers' and fathers' Olympics."

My take on it is that it is, at the very least, inappropriate. She didn't get picked for Team USA, so she's taking her ball (no pun intended) and playing for a rival team. She has dual-citizenship, which is fine, but where does she make her home? Where is her heart? Is it with Russia or the United States? If she wants to permanently relocate herself to Russia and fully utilize her Russian citizenship, then by all means she should play for them. However, since she has not done so and has publicly expressed no intention of doing so, then she should not be playing for any team against her own country.

The article tries to compare her actions with those of Hakeem Olajuwon, a Nigerian who obtained U.S. citizenship and then played for Team USA. The difference, and this is key, is that Hakeem Olajuwon emigrated from Nigeria and made the United States his home. He fully adopted the United States as his new home country and fully assimilated and involved himself as an American. I find the comparison to be invalid.

Further, Hammond, who says that the Olympics are "[just] a game," seems to feel its as simple and unimportant as a game of pickup with the neighborhood kids. I think this just shows either extreme naiveite or extreme obtuseness because we all are aware that the Olympics are as political and emotional, perhaps moreso, than almost anything else. Remember the kidnapping of the American athletes? Remember the victory of USA Hockey over the Soviet Union? Remember the shame we all felt when Team USA only made bronze in Men's Basketball in Athens? I would be ashamed, if I were her, of even considering playing for any team not of my own country. As it is, I am ashamed for her. She's a sell-out and obviously has zero pride in the United States even though she claims the contrary (actions, not words).

Best quote from the article:
"For Taurasi, the Olympics are about playing for country.

"People in USA jerseys," Taurasi said. "That's the only people I care about. If you're not wearing a USA jersey, you're not on my team."

I hope Hammond is compfortable in the cold, because I think she's going to get frozen out by Team USA in all capacities.

Tony Snow
It has become my habit to do my best ignore certain portions of my flist when a conservative of any sort dies, though I often fail. I knew from previous experiences when Tony Snow was diagnosed that he would not be missed by the worst tongues (or fingers) on my friends list. Sadly, I was not proven wrong.

Many times I can let it roll off my back but never less than in regards to Tony Snow. I have heard scandalous opinions and down right lies about many conservatives but at times I get beyond tired. I will not, cannot repeat some of the things I've seen that were written over the weekend. Neither can I ignore them.

So I want to say this, here, where people are respectful. Tony Snow was an amazing man. We look up to men who do great and marvelous things. We aspire to be them. More often than that we see people who do amazing things every day. Tony Snow was such a person.

With his intelligent commentary of current events, his ability to make a usually raucous Fox newsroom civil, and his endless good humor, there was no news show I liked to watch better. How many press secretaries actually make you want to watch the White House news room? His news room echoed the politeness of the Bush White House to a T, while still not letting the press get away with steamrolling as they are wont to do.

How many people in politics can be that upbeat and professional all the time? How many people can respectfully disagree and continue a debate and still be smiling at the other person at the end? How many of us, faced with the challenge of cancer will spend most of our last years propping up all the others we meet along the way?

He wasn't my friend, husband, or father, he was just the guy I got my news from, the guy who defended my president even when when that president wouldn't defend himself, and yet I am saddened by his passing. Yes, he was a guy I agreed with quite often. More than that though, he was a voice I looked forward to hearing because it would be discussing some of my favorite topics, intelligently, and without rancor. His is a voice and a smile that will be missed.

Is it ok to laugh?
The New Yorker shows up faithfully each week in my mailbox, courtesy of Doc "Ninja" Smith, who gave us a subscription for Christmas.

Next week, the cover features Barack (sporting a turban and sandals), cheerfully knuckle-bumping Michelle, who is graced with an Afro, combat boots, and an AK strapped across her back   -  in a living room with a picture of Osama above the fireplace... in which an American flag is merrily burning.

I know it's satire. I get the joke. I'm still not sure if it's ok to laugh...but I will. I just hope the outrage doesn't make them pull it before I get mine.

Tony Snow
I had a very cool opportunity when I was in college and the chapter chairman of my school's Young Conservatives of Texas. I had become friends with a promoter for a Dallas area talk radio station, 570 KLIF. He got me a VIP pass to a speaking engagement for one of their syndicated hosts. That host was Tony Snow.

I got to hear his speech, of course, but beforehand I had the opportunity to go to the VIP suite to meet the man himself. I was easily the youngest person in the room, and terribly out of place in my jeans and college polo. But Tony Show was an easy person to approach and talk to, and he was genuinely interested in what my college club had been doing (we had made headlines with an event earlier in the year, and John Kasich had interviewed a friend of mine on his show - we weren't totally obscure). He chatted about his own experiences in college, asked everyone their opinions about golf and joked about the game he'd played earlier that day.

His speech was great, reminding conservatives that we had not won and still had a long road ahead (this was in 2005).

His colon cancer was announced later about two weeks after this event.

Losing Tony today was a blow for our cause, our country, and most of all for humanity. He was a good man who spoke up about his beliefs and didn't back down in the face of harsh, mean-spirited criticism. I'm praying for his family and for his friends tonight.

THE SENSITIVITY TRAP
BRITS' PC IDIOCY ON ISLAM

MULTICULTURALISM struck again last week. London's Daily Tele graph reported that the Tayside police force in Scotland had apologized to local Muslims for running a public-service ad offensive to their religious sensibilities.

The outrage? A cartoon of the Prophet with a fuse in his turban? A warning that a burqa might camouflage an escaping male terrorist? An incendiary monocultural statement that "kilts will be worn" at the next Police Association's Robert Burns Night?

No, the offensive ad was, I'm sorry to report, a cute little doggie named "Rebel" - a German shepherd puppy pictured on a postcard advertising a new non-emergency police phone number.

In his short official life, Rebel had apparently captured the hearts of the local Tayside people. They logged on to the force's Web site in thousands to follow Rebel's progress in training to be a police dog. The little canine became Rebel after a visit to St. Ninian's primary school, where the tiny tots suggested various names for him.
The Tayside police promptly conceded that they should have consulted their "diversity officer." Whereupon the clanking machinery of official multiculturalism rumbled into action, the police withdrew the ad, and everyone agreed to be more sensitive in the future. Heigh-ho. And ho-hum.

[the rest.]

==========

I want to write the Tayside Police. I want to write them so badly I can taste it. This is ridiculous. So, without further ado, in case anyone else would like to join me, here is the mailing address of the "diversity adviser."

Diversity Adviser, Tayside Police
PO Box 59
Dundee, DD1 9JU

And the main headquarters address:

Tayside Police
PO Box 59
West Bell Street
DUNDEE

I am sending snail-mail because I tend to follow the rule that a handwritten letter carries more weight (literally and figuratively) than an email. I write because this is genuinely stupid that they've had to pull back because of some Muslim hooligans and because what happens in Europe tends to migrate to the U.S. eventually and I'm tired of this nonsens and I'd like to nip it in the bud, so to speak.
