Taoists. . . where?
When I joined this community, I thought it was about Taoism as philosophy or religion. I expected to see Taoists or those who perhaps seek to become more like Taoists. Instead of these things, I see people bickering with each other over lj-cuts and Christianity. Neither matter.

The fact that so much anger was forced into this argument tells me that there is much to learn in this community. Until the time when a Taoism group can exist peacefully, I am removing myself from this group.

I haven't been participating, but I have been reading. This is definitely not what I would expect from a Taoist discussion. It is the inflexible will that never understands the Tao.

Goodbye and good luck to you all. May you find the path you are seeking and freedom from anger.

calm can only be defined by anger. if no one ever fought, there would be nothing to fight for.

not like you'd know what 'very true' is compared to merely 'true' or anything.

I think the actual Taoists prefer to not bother themselves with engaging in sillyness like you mention... Focus on your Way, and let others do what they Need to do. It seems very easy to ignore useless posts, it might be interesting to question why that is difficult for you to do.

And I think you are right, there is always much to learn...

Why bother with a parting announcement?

I'm not a perfect taoist, and in this case, I cannot bring myself to flow easily. So, I must say, it's awfully childish of you to announce your leaving as though it's some mighty force. Had you as much wisdom as you seem to think you have, you would have left well enough alone and exited quietly.

what i often wonder is what a taoist who presumes to be attempting a balance between, let's say, opposites, has to gain from fighting so hard against one or the other. shouldn't they welcome both, i.e. the war with the peace? at least that's what i've been trying to do for so long with this community. i figured it was my harsh rules early on that caused so many people to leave, so i removed all the rules. now it seems like i was wrong; people leave even a rule-less community obviously because they can't handle themselves. what do you think? any suggestions?

Because I tend to view taoism as the comlimentary half of the Chinese religions (ie, the other half being Confucianism), I feel that there is a time for action as well as a time for stillness. A time for war, a time for peace. I'm not opposed to a good argument now and again because I think some of them can help us grow, or at the very least, serve the purpose of releasing various emotions. I try to only get into ones I feel won't bother me enough to interrupt the flow of my day, but nonetheless, conflict spurs growth.

I actually run (under another name) several communities, myself. I find that ruleless communities often die out because nobody knows how to govern themselves appropriately. Then, fights break out and eventually, everybody gives up. I run all of my communities strictly and swiftly because I don't like to deal with petty e-drama, and LJ is a breeding ground for annoying and IQ challenged individuals. However, this community is probably a bit more general than the ones I run, and so I would suggest something of a middle ground. You could, of course, screen the requests to join the community to weed out people who obviously shouldn't be here (like people whose only interests are harassing goats or something... You'd be surprised what you can find here on LJ). But I think the best thing to do is to publicly outline your rules and policies. That way everyone will know what to expect when they come to the community. Which reminds me, what's going on with the community info?

what's going on is that i'm blatantly advertising the fact that the community pisses off the typical 'taoist'.
