Speaking of Asylums...
Announcing: Suburban Jungle Celebrity Chat, SATURDAY!

On Saturday, at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time (UTC-5, I think?), we'll be returning to an old tradition, which is the Suburban Jungle Celebrity Chat! As of this writing, the voting is divided between Leonard and Leona for the guest celebrity, but we'll get it worked out by chat time.

The Suburban Jungle Chat Room was set up by the always-amazing [info]mammallamadevil, and doesn't require any special client, just a web browser. The first time you go there, it will probably require you to install the Java applet (distributed by "Akiva"), but once that's done, all you need to do is pick a nickname and go! The interface is very quick and easy to learn if you've ever been in a chat before.

The FQAs that I found say that you can use any IRC client, and connect to irc.everywherechat.com on port 6667. The channel appears to be #Suburban_Jungle_Chat (which really breaks my X-Chat layout... ugh).

Lucky me, I can save my sanity and split the tab off before joining the channel. The name is unusually long for an IRC channel though, something like #suburbanjungle would be the norm.

Chat room error

Hey, when I went to the site so I could load the chat room and download whatever it is I need, it gives me an error and I can't DL anything!! I'd hate to miss the chat because of a stupid computer....anybody have an idea about what's wrong?

it says "Certificate not verified....will treat as unsigned". Do I need to lower net security or something? *growls* stupid technology.

I just noticed that Hendikins pointed out that it should work with irc too. If someone could tell me how to connect through irc, I probably can rig that up to work instead. Sorry if I'm kind of a pain...I can code, but I can't use the computer very well except for games. *winces* I know that's not great, but I usually don't do chat room stuff. I will be in 2 if all this works....this and one about a comic series.

Get yourself an IRC client (mIRC, x-chat, Trillian are possibilities).

At the text entry line type:

/nick Bushtail
(Just an example, of course)

/server irc.everywherechat.com
to get connected. It will default to port 6667 so you won't have to be concerned with setting the port.

Once connected, type:
/join #Suburban_Jungle_Chat
And there you'll be.

Just type to talk. Actions can also be performed:

/me waves.
will result in:
* Bushtail waves.

It appears that the comcast.net domain is blocked from using the IRC client, and the java client must be used.
