Why This Must Be Read: I've never been a believer in the idea that any old Daniel (or Jack, or Teal'c, or Carter) could just slide into any other Daniel's slot, that they're interchangeable and just alike simply because they share the same DNA. Each reality's Daniel (or Jack, or Teal'c, or Carter) is going to evolve based on their own individual experiences, and maybe even react differently to the same experiences, and become their own person. Multiplicity ably portrays this when more than one SG-1 arrives on the same planet at the same time, and the author works amazingly clear magic in defining each doppleganger from the other, and for the reader, amidst the visceral confusion and horror of a battle with Apophis' Jaffa. Each version is credible and realistic, recognizable yet different, not least of all the Daniels who are all necessary to hold one team together.

Why This Must Be Read:
A fairly short, silly look at the boys in all their socially inept glory, with much to say about what they really mean to each other.

(I rec this one with a caveat to slash fans - as a fan of both slash and gen, I must tell you this story is definitely gen (regardless of the author's notes); and may prove unsatisfying to a slasher. That being said, I find it a plausible, positive, and touching take on the characters and their friendship.)

Why This Must Be Read:  A relatively short piece that manages to capture a lot.  It's incredibly beautiful. I love the Sam/Daniel connection as the only two who can really understand what's happening inside each other (in Teal'c's absence).

And Cam is wonderfully portrayed, not the outsider, but as someone with a fresher perspective. He's had some of the turmoil, but not all of it and he reminds the others of how wonderful their job can be.

In the interest of full disclosure, I beta'd this piece, and I'm recc'ing it because I know EXACTLY how much effort went into it.  Sg_betty is a gen writer with a lot of promise, a lot of enthusiasm, and a lot of great ideas.

Why This Must Be Read:
Don't let the fact that it's in multiple chapters scare you off!  It's worth the read.  SG-1 finds their way into a pyramid that belongs to a Goa'uld they all fervently hope isn't around anymore, and then are forced into a surreal trip through a recreation of the Egyptian underworld in an attempt to make their way home.  Classic team-y banter,  a lot of research into the Egyptian Book of the Dead, and some truly well-written action sequences make for an enjoyable episode-style read.

Why This Must Be Read:
I'm somewhat shocked and amazed that this hasn't been recced anywhere that I can see.  This long fic has to be one of the most original Stargate plotlines I have ever read.  Generally well written with great dynamics it's a romp that has everything - action, adventure, mystery, angst, some h/c, and truly awesome character moments.  I won't go into details of the plot becasue it's too good to give away but once you realize what it's about you'll wonder why more people never ran with this idea.

I will say that, while being a pretty good team fic, it's also a great character study of both Carter and Daniel.  Carter gets more of the focus because she's the main subject of a rather incredible event.  In dealing with it Carter has to handle some of her latent issues with Jolinar; there's also a question of identity that runs throughout and at least one (perhaps more, it's been awhile since I've read the whole thing) morally ambiguous situation.

Overall it's a superb Carter-centric, gen, team-y fic. 

One note for people who do tackle this fic.  There are some formatting issues with the first chapter on fanfiction.net that are not present on the copy on Confushi's site.  But if memory serves later chapter(s) on Confushi's site have issues (apostrophes being replaced with ? I think) that aren't present on ff.net.  So between the two links supplied above you should be able to read the whole thing without problems.

Why This Must Be Read:
This fic is good on so many fronts. It's set with SG-1 and General O'Neill going off world. Of course, things go wrong when a baddie enters stage right. It's well written, the characterizations are great, has an original plotline, and no one is ignored. There are great team-y moments and banter as well.

Despite it being an established J/S fic the relationship is not the overwhelming focus - a prereq for me to wade into this territory. It's there but it's simply a fact of life and both Carter and O'Neill are still in character.

What makes this a Sam Carter rec is the fact that, despite O'Neill's presence, she's still SG-1's leader. She protects her people and takes the whump, just like O'Neill did for seven years. And throughout it all she's strong, independent, a bit snarky, and still manages to find ways to contribute to their escape plots.

Don't let its WIP status turn you away. The author has been updating consistently. This is a fic not to be missed.

Rodney's desperate to save his team, and Keller's just trying to keep up, on a planet where hurricanes can last for days.

This fic can be read as friendshippy gen or as Rodney/Jennifer subtext, just as the reader likes.

Above all it's a descriptive and action-filled adventure story with a fantastic Keller POV that does the character justice. She gets a chance to shine in this one, with nature throwing obstacle after obstacle at them, and Sheppard's team lying injured (really well-written h/c, too). It's much fun to see Rodney and Jennifer play off each other.

This fic put me in a happy mood and left me with a yen for more Keller-centric fic. (36,000 words)

Why this must be read:  It's sweet and hot and has a really cool plot, plus there's dinosaurs!  Seriously, it features a beautifully written Daniel POV and doesn't try to gloss over the confusing thoughts rolling around in our linguist's head.  And Daniel in love is a wondrous sight to behold, almost as wonderful as Jack in love.

Could've sworn I'd rec'ced this already, but didn't see it offhand, and it's definitely not been rec'ced for team yet, so...

SG-1 is on an important mission in this fic–trying to make out a telephone number on Daniel's answering machine. Catherine's niece Sabrina is in town and trying to connect with him. The fic is almost entirely dialogue, which emphasizes the banter and snarking of friends who by this point in season 8, know each other far too well.

Read, and laugh.

Why This Must Be Read: I love hurt/comfort of most strains, but I am especially partial to mental/emotional damage, and scifi allows for amazing explorations of what makes up mind and self - such as here. A little dark and a lot intense, this long story puts Rodney, and Rodney and John's friendship, to the test, as Rodney's very identity is stolen from him, and the team does what it takes to get him back. Vivid prose, an intriguing Pegasus people, and fascinating insights into Rodney's character, and into John and the team's as well, make this one a memorable read.

Why this should be read:

"They're cracking. Listen to them walk down the hall and you can hear the pieces falling off, a tinkling sound like bells."

This fic is the reason I signed up to be "Team" rec'cer for this month, because it is just so awesome, it has to be shared.

Mitchell is recovering from injuries and notices just how things aren't quite right with the team since living on adrenaline for so long leading up to the events of "Ark of Truth." So he tracks each of his teammates down to engage in a bit of team bonding.

What makes this fic rich and wonderful is not just Cam's perspective on each of his teammates and his interactions with them–although that is fantastic in its own right. But it's how real Six makes Stargate Command. The setting of the corridors infused with daily life of all the men and women in it. The different vibes of the various departments. The bureaucratic rigamarole. The tweaking of the rules (sometimes by SG-1 itself.)

It's a quiet fic, filled with the weighty undertones of people who've been through so much up to this point, and at its core, rich with the vibrancy of teamy goodness.

I'll be pioneering in the field of McKay/Keller recs this month. Posting this one right away lest it gets snagged for another category...

Why This Must Be Read:
Colonel Sheppard has been in the hands of the Nolari for just over six hours. They are not known for treating their prisoners well. When a rescue mission goes FUBAR, McKay and Keller find themselves racing a ticking clock to save Sheppard's life on a lethal, frozen world.

A fun, suspenseful action-adventure story, in which Rodney and Jennifer get thrown into a combat situation and have to team up and save the day. This reads just like an episode, thanks to the vivid descriptions, the exciting action scenes and the great characterization. I love the Keller POV, and the nice, tingly UST between our two reluctant heroes.

This story starts off innocently enough with another mission gone horribly wrong, and Jack lamenting the fact that sometimes his life resembles a series of clichés. And Jack hates clichés. But from this simple beginning, the story continues into an exploration of how events and people have shaped their lives. The clichés are just on the surface, covering deeper understanding. Told from Jack's point of view, a.loquita nails both his snarky sense of humor and the deep emotion he tries to keep hidden.

Set during Season 4 of SGA, Gravity Always in the End tells the story of the aftermath of a mission gone horribly wrong. Jack arrives in Atlantis and spends six days just being there in the best way possible. In so many ways, this story is told by what isn't said as much as what the characters do say to one another. The undercurrent of emotion is deep and profound. Sam gets to shine as the commander of Atlantis as she makes critical decisions and wrestles with moral dilemmas even as she tries to face down personal demons. Jack is solid, reminding her with his presence that no matter what, he's got her back and his faith in her abilities is unwavering. Annerb portrays the evolution of their relationship from friends to lovers as a work in progress they're quietly committed to even in the face of their often dangerous jobs and the separation they must endure. This is a wonderful story that shows amazing depth and allows the characters to shine.

I stumbled across this story about a year ago and have loved it since. Set at the retirement party for Gen. George Hammond, Partay paints a picture of life for SG-1 between seasons 8 and 9. The passion between Sam and Jack simmers from start to finish and gives fans of this pairing a pleasing resolution. In addition to the classic roster of SG-1, Cam Mitchell, Cassie Fraiser and the command staff of Atlantis are portrayed wonderfully well. Partay is a glimpse of the people who make up the Stargate Program during a time when everyone is making transitions, both personal and professional.

John could have stood there admiring her forever, but if he didn't do this now, he never would. His heart pounded, and his palms began to sweat. He hadn't been this nervous since… well, ever.

What starts out as a beautiful proposal scene is suddenly turned into something much more heartbreaking as you discover that tragic circumstances means there will never be a wedding. Your heart will go out to the character left standing at the end, as they are just existing, not living.

Why This Must Be Read: I'm reccing this under the category of Vala, but really, there's so much focus on the team and how the deal with of a different way "The Quest" could have gone for Daniel. Odette changes how Daniel is separated from the team at the end of "The Quest, part 1" and how it affects all of them, the team, Daniel and of course Vala. The Daniel and Adria interaction is great, and telling for both of them, as is the reactions of the team as they try and get Daniel back.

Why This Must Be Read: The first time I read this snippit I nearly cried. Kelowna has fallen to the Ori and Jonas ends up on their bad side, but the SGC don't leave their people behind.

For such a short fic it pack's an incredible punch and 6beforelunch gives us a Jonas who is strong and yet so incredibly fragile at the same time.
