8:56PM - tech help?
I already have skype, and a few months ago my friend installed a mic on my computer, but i took it off and now i can't figure out how to mak my computer "hear" me again.
so today i bought a little Skype starter pack
i have it plugged into the correct places on my tower. i can hear through the earbud but i still can not figure out how to make a mic work on my computer. ANY HELP?
I even tried going to best buy and radio shack and no one could tell me anything other than "try running the little cd"
which i did and it was just a "let me tell you about skype..." kinda thing.

8:30PM - SkypeIn?
I'm looking for a good way to get another phone number beside the cellphone number I've got for my company. Now, I'll live and operate my company from my apartment, and I'm not keen in sharing my private phone line with my business (read salesperson #106 calls on ones private residence phone line; I don't want that). Adding another landline into my apartment would cost me a fortune, and I'm leaning towards IP telephony as a solution as a business number; I've currently looking at Skype. Is there anyone who've have any experience with SkypeIn? It looks like an option to a landline.. or anyone have any other ideas/suggestions?

Well I did the 14.99 PROMO to find out ....ITS NOT skype credit. I have no credit now in april. (since december) Oh well. ...skype is user friendly however....and Id like a USB phone cheap.....

5:19PM - skype name displayed
apparently office phones with call display can see my user name, and not many people understand the word exsanguinated let alone what the hell it means when it shows up on their display. no one has mentioned this to me until today, and two separate people have mentioned it. maybe it is a new thing?
anyway, i don't see where i can change it on my profile, but im not comfortable making business calls with skype if it is going to show this name. does anyone know how to change it?

I'm a UK Skype user. I've been using Skype for a few months now and I recently took the plunge and bought a Skype phone. I got a free £3.75 worth of credit with the phone, and was wondering if it was actually worthwhile making calls to regular phones.

5:32PM - Skype status button in my LJ User Info?
Hi there - I'm a new Skype user but am at a loss as to how to get a Skype status button to appear on my LJ User Info page. The ICQ flower magically appeared when I signed up for that a while back, but the Skype status button (which I have seen on other people's profiles) is not appearing on mine.
I've already turned on the "Allow my status to be shown on the web" feature in Skype, and created an exception in my firewall for Skype. There must be something simple I have missed but an LJ FAQ search hasn't come up with anything.

11:10PM - Tip about webcam troubles
A friend of mine with a semi-old computer found camera conversations in skype lagging and using up all CPU when he downloaded the latest version of skype. (as of 2. of august) (This was a logitech quickcam by the way).
In an earlier post, Kadenza linked to http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=skype for older versions of skype. Using the 2.0.0.107 .exe fixed the camera problem and the 2.0.0.73 at this website should probably do the trick as well.

i just downloaded the "shiny new" skype 2.5. does anyone else have it?
if so, isn't the ringer ridiculously melodic?
i used to wish they would change the sound from the shrill & piercing ringer that they had before, but...this makes me not even want to change my privacy settings so that random ass people can't call me.

8:32PM - Skype to PBX strangeness...
Hello All,
I wanted to share a strange Skype incident that happened to me lately. I was just on a call to a New York number when the person on the other end heard " modem sounds" and suddenly we were talking to the opposite ends of what sounded like a different Skype call. Out of nowhere I was listening a Indian sounding software engineer manger type guy who could not hear me, talking about a presentation the company was making. Ironically he said he did not want to do all the talking at the presentation while completely monopolizing the conversation. Meanwhile the person I was talking to could both hear and speak to the managers subordinate. Once the programmers ended their call, the call I was on was also terminated. I have never heard of this before and the crossed line may have happened in the PBX of the major company I was calling. But if that is the case then why the modem sounds AND why was our call terminated by the end of the programmers conversation? I know that all Skype calls are encrypted from end to end but how about Skype out calls? I was running Skype 1.3 (ish) on a G4 running 10.3.9. I have since updated to 1.4 the newest Mac version of the Skype Client.
