| New Font in the Works |
[02 Sep 2005|02:01pm] |
When I bought my copy of Androcles and the Lion, I found that the most striking thing about it was the typography: Kingsley Read's fonts seem to work much better in text than most of the existing digital fonts. That's when I decided to digitize it. I've been working on this for a while, and things are starting to come together. Unfortunately, it's still going to take a lot of work, but I wanted to let everybody know that I've come this far, and I'd like to have a working trial of the upright style available before too long.

Many adjustments will be needed, but it should come very close to the original when set at text sizes. I'll keep everybody updated as the progress continues.
Edit: I'd also like to point out that the text, in case you don't recognize it, is taken from the beginning of Androcles and the Lion, and the comma in it is actually the Androcles font since I haven't finished mine yet.

Here's a question for all you shavianphiles. How do you handle acronyms and initials?
I work in corporate america and, as usual, we are plagued by acronyms and initials. While transcribing some meeting notes the other day, I found it difficult when I hit "MOR". Does it lose its meaning if written in Shavian? Each letter represents the initial of three words, but if the letters (specifically "O") represent a sound and no longer represent an initial, does it still mean the same thing?
It's easier to work with an acronym that initials. If "MOR" is questionable, surely something like "ATB" would make no sense at all in Shavian.
Has anyone else had this problem, or will it just seem more natural as I become more familiar with the script?

| Shaw or Shavian Alphabet |
[26 Sep 2004|01:51pm] |
Hi Everyone
I am new.
I would like to post some of my comments in the Shavian Alphabet. I would mark the Shaw passages by enclosing the text in square brackets. Is everyone familiar with the Standard Shavian Keyboard Mapping? [iz evrI wun familjD wiT H stAndxd SY kIbPd mApiN?] Or should I use something different?
Regards, Paul V.
