Awesome. I was unsure of whether "LJ Drama" and the like would really be interesting enough to warrant any magazine articles. I guess so.

This is my reply to some random suicide girl's comment over on the suicidegirls livejournal in regards to this cross-post. Not that it isn't blatantly obvious, but just to be certain that it is so, the text in quotes are portions of what the girl typed followed by my short comment:

------------
"This girl has some terrible writting skills."

...

"The fact that half of what she says is untrue (especially that someone was fired, not true) makes look stupid in a well read magazine."

Now, how many people found this terribly amusing?

Truly,
K

Please feel free to answer the above question.

Ohhh, that was Gabe you replied to. She's French, and from what I can tell, she's a very nice person and longtime LJer. Personally I would apologize, but that's just me.

I think it's probably difficult for the remote models there, the ones who have never been dicked over. I'm sure information gets to them in very roundabout ways and it can be scary. They often seem like some of SG's staunchest defenders, but I am sure lots of that is just fear-based defensiveness. Just my theory anyway.

I posted an apology
I will take you on your word that she is a very nice person as I know nothing of her other than that single comment she had posted. I posted a general apology to anyone that I had offended. I know it was not much in the way of being compassionate, but it is a honest apology none the less.

Truly,
K

Re: I posted an apology
I think that's great. It shows how much bigger you are than any of them. They never would dream of apologizing for anything.

It may just be my optimism, but it seems to me that your comment is oozing sarcasm.

Re: I posted an apology
No, no sarcasm intended at all. Apologies are rare in that community and in SG-land itself. I don't think the founder of this community ever received anything resembling an apology when the community they built and nurtured was taken from them. Spooky and company apologize? Ha! Rarely.

So yeah, owning up to posting something that was a bit hasty was a very courageous thing to do on that community, or anywhere, for that matter. Seriously, how many of us actually do ever take the time to say "I was wrong"? I know I should, but seldom do.

Re: I posted an apology
Really? That is a rather sad state of affairs. In a way, I was sort of hoping you were just jabbing at me with a sarcastic remark. I suppose I really did not want to believe that all/most of those people were such snobs. Or that anyone would base their self-image and any of their self-worth on a mere website and the random visitors that gather there.

... you know, something just made a lot of sense all of a sudden. Until just now, I could not pinpoint the exact source of feeling as though I were back in high-school that I would get whenever boredom would lead me to bum around on that website or that community (after the takeover that is). I suppose 'spooky' really is just taking *complete* advantage of these girls' apparent low self-esteem. I mean, I realized he was taking advantage of them, but I did not think he was taking complete advantage of them. What an immense pile of shit he must be. Someone should take him out by the ear and give him a good hour of caning. Too bad he would likely pass out within the first two minutes.

Truly,
K

You know what? I made a comment following Morgan's that her calling you a "dumbass" was entirely uncalled for. To the casual reader, how are we supposed to know that "liky" is synonomous with "Suicide Gabe" and that she doesn't speak English well? I'm sorry, but with - what? 150 SGs? - I can't remember the native country for all the foreign ones.

Re:
Gabe or Morgan?

I used to have at least some level of respect for Morgan, but that's been lost on more than one occasion. Despite what it seems, I don't "dislike her just because she supports SG" ... I just think she can be a real dick sometimes, whether or not she means to do it. The attitude that seems to stem from "because I'm an SG" could be done without.

I meant Gabe. Morgan is just an apologist for SG now. It was pretty clear how much so during the beginnings of their takeover of the community, I thought.

Gabe on the other hand has always seemed decent, and has a lot of style that she had before SG, and will have after. A lot of the other girls lately seemed defined by SG and not the other way around, so I am sure it's threatening to them to read these negative articles, since the backlash may mean that not everyone thinks Suicidegirls is the ultimate in cool. For many of them, I'm sure being an SG just defines their existance.

A friend of mine is friends with Morgan.
My take on the whole thing is that she's more or less put blinders on to all the SG nastiness — her being an SG is pretty tied to the idea that it's a feminist site, and were she to acknowledge that they'd done stuff that wasn't feminist, the whole house of cards would come crumbling down. So she just ignores the bad stuff and focuses on the good (though, since she stays in line and is on the East Coast, I'm sure that's a relatively easy thing to be doing...).
I've been in her place before. It's a tough one.

i always got the impression that, while she didn't necessarily think that sg was a feminist site or that being an sg was a feminist act, being an sg [or posing nude in general] didn't mean that she WASN'T a feminist.

i know morgan. she's not as blindly supportive of the site as some may think. like you said, though, she's in kind of a difficult position...
