Crosswalk.com I recently came across a wonderful internet company called Crosswalk.com. Their mission statement was very comforting to me regarding the nature of their work: Mission As a Christ-centered, for-profit corporation, we will create value for our customers, employees and shareholders by: - Bringing glory to God in all that we do;
- Equipping people to grow in their faith and the practical application of it in their lives;
- Enhancing fellowship, communication and relationship-building within the Christian community; and
- Encouraging and enabling personal involvement in the care of those who are spiritually, emotionally, physically or financially poor.
They also have a very scripture-centric statement of Faith, saying additionally, "We believe that the Bible is God's written revelation to man and that it is verbally inspired, authoritative, and without error in the original manuscripts."
They, in fact, wrote a story a bit more than a year ago about the crisis of Bible illiteracy in our nation today in an attempt to promote the reading of it. If all of our predominantly Christian nation read the Bible, our problems would not be so great as they are. The important story about Biblical illiteracy is here: http://www.crosswalk.com/news/weblogs/mohler/?adate=10/14/2005#1356622
I found the link to that story here: http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/preface.html Current Mood: contemplative | | Monday, September 4th, 2006 | 3:53 pm [themoments]

brilliant luck - request for material Hello! My name is Wingdance, and I'm collecting material for a fanzine I'm creating called ' Brilliant Luck'. The first issue is going to cover anime, manga, webcomics, and videogames that fall under the genre of Psychological/Suspense. Since Serial Experiments Lain is one of m favorite anime, I'd like to have material related to it. ( The kind of things I am requesting. )( What is a fanzine? )Since I'm currently accepting material related to Psychological/Suspense, material related to things other than Serial Experiments Lain is welcome. Material that falls under genres other than Psychological/Suspense is also welcome, although you must keep in mind that it can't be published until Brilliant Luck publishes and it's been out for at least thirty days. Even if you don't want to submit to the magazine, you can subscribe by writing an e-mail to brilliantluck@gmail.com with 'SUBSCRIBE' in the header. Comments and questions are welcome. Thank you very much. Current Mood: accomplishedCurrent Music: They Might Be Giants - 88 Lines About 44 Women | | Friday, February 11th, 2005 | 2:28 am [ganson316]

Cordwainer Smith's Remarkable Science Fiction (X-Posted to lain_fans)</b></a>
As you may or may not know, the proprietor of Thought Experiments Lain
(for whom I have much respect) suggested that Lain herself may have
been based off of one or more of Cordwainer Smith's characters.
Interested, I purchased a collection of his short stories which
contains the entire Instrumentality series (and more besides, but that
is another story)... and I must say that I agree with Mr. Lawrence Eng.
I just finished that collection, " The Rediscovery of Man..." it was remarkable indeed. It reads very much like " Through the Looking Glass;" which is to say, the entire experience is a delight.
Most topically, however, for you die hard Lain fans... as I have said,
yes, it is a fairly safe bet that the entire concept and persona of
Lain comes from Cordwainer Smith's series. I am thinking particularly
of T'ruth, but also of the little girl in "Think Blue Count Two," which
SeL directly references.
There are even other examples. I do not wish to seem redundant in
repeating that there is a connection - I wish to add to what Mr.
Lawrence Eng has already posited in assuring you all that the
resemblance is uncanny.
I highly, highly reccomend Smith's Instrumentality series for any Lain
fan (or, indeed, any fan of slightly bizarre Science Fiction). Not only
do you catch a glimpse of some of what went into the series, but if you
have become attached to the character of Lain particularly (that is, of
course, the point of character development) you may wish to know that
SeL is not the only series in which she might be found.
And, as an aside... hello, everybody. First post to this community. Current Mood: pleasedCurrent Music: White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane | | Saturday, January 1st, 2005 | 12:36 pm [33w]

S.E.:L. PSX -- Report Two S.E.:L. PSX -- Report Two I spent another day installing random utilities off the internet. While I am lucky that I only got 14 objects of malware, I unluckily got one that is launching pop-ups and that neither Spybot S&D nor Ad-Aware can remove (even with the most recent definitions - I just disabled their startup in msconfig, but I don't know if that is going to do it) ...anyways though, this was to be expected. What is not expected, however, is that NONE of the utilities are able to rip the .STR files off the discs. And so I losing hope pretty fast... and I am worried that I am messing my computer up for no reason at all - I figured that I would rip all the media onto a disc, and then reformat so I would just have the media and a clean OS to enjoy it with... but if I can't get the media off of it, then obviously I wasted a LOT of time. The next thing I am going to try to do is to make an .ISO of the disc (though I have no idea how), and then try to rip from that rather than dirrectly off the game discs... though I really don't think it is going to make a difference. I got frustrated and decided to set-up an emulator and take some screen shots. I can play the game easily now, and would be able to "beat" it (unlock everything) if I could switch discs. However, it just stays at the "insert disc 2" screen whenever I try to go to "site B" (play the part of the game that is on the second disc). Oh, and I think I understand now why it is that it hasn't been translated... because of excessive violence and some nudity/sexuality. Not that they are especially dirty, but there is one video of lain naked and feeling her chest, and another where she is just naked and taking a shower. It isn't really graphic (I mean, its anime), but it would still be too bad for a US console game (especially about a little girl). As for the violence... well... that is the part that is really bad. It will randomly show (anime) pictures of people that have killed themselves... like a bloody hand, or a handgun with blood all over it, or like someone holding a razor, or like a huge bloodstain against a wall with a slouched over corpse underneith it, and... well... blood is EVERYWHERE in pictures/videos... it is QUITE disturbing. Anyways, who cares about suicide and blood and guts though? We want the cute adorable Lain! So here is a collage of IG pictures from one of the video clips... ( Cute Adorable Lain )And here is another collage of some THING that I collected pieces to. Unlike the other things, it didn't unlock anything when I collected all the pieces (maybe I am missing the tail or something?) A while ago, I was thinking about the layer "Distortion," and I suddenly realized what the "prophecy" was. I'm still not sure if that revelation was truly a revelation or merely a realization of the obvious.
So, out of curiosity, what does everyone here think the "prophecy" is? Current Mood: curiousCurrent Music: Tea Party - White Water Siren | | Saturday, April 17th, 2004 | 12:21 pm [phm_v2]

hum I think I mostly joined because this community's Interests list includes "pi." And the obvious "Serial Experiments Lain." Whee. Anyway, I love Lain--I started the series in about 8th or 9th grade (so about two or three years ago) and absolutely hated myself for not buying all four DVDs at once. I had to wait a full year before the next NekoCon came around before I could buy the last two DVDs (had basic TV at that point, and we didn't have a Suncoast to sell us anime yet). And not only was I elated, I was amused--"god" is held together by duct tape. BLUUUEE! This is interesting enough for an intro, no? And before I edge away warily: love SEL enough that a friend bought me a Lain doll (I can... pose her... whee. She is currently sitting atop my bookshelf, looking sideways down at my computer. ♥), and another made me a small trinket box with Lain pictures put on it. I also plan on naming my computer "Navi" the second I actually finish it.
