nothing really major! this post is mostly for pooka beta testers.

pooka's XP gain rate has been nerfed (it is now the same as augurers) after discussing it with brass.
also, the level at which pooka recieves trance was bumped up to the 30s. ALSO you got a...

new skill
LACKADAISY - it lowers your target's HR significantly for a short burst of time.

tweaked skills
weaken - lowers the target's DR slightly for a short burst (in addition to weakening)
poison- lowers the target's HR slightly for a short burst (in addition to poisoning)

these were tweaked due to the unanimous agreement that outside of PVP, the skills were prettymuch useless.

it's deffinitly tweak-season though, so hang onto your hats. vrrrrooom!

-you can now follow regardless of levels. level 3 can follow level 50...who cares!
-flints have been added to things you can buy in the chuian tree, so go go rangers!
-running up without fly no longer crashes sabrous in a giant fireball.
-cure serious and cure crit for rangers have been inverted to more LOGICAL levels. ie, you get the weaker one *first*...
-time played on your score actually reveals the *gasp* time played!
-the explorer's order shopkeep actually has MONEY to be a pawn shop now.

tweaks!
- portal has been changed so it WORKS. previously if you were not both peaceful/deadly and not within 15 levels of one another, it would fail. now it works. HA!
- polymorph reverting will not leave you with negative HP
- drain now gives the caster some of the mana drained from the target
- when more than one hidden object (or exit) is in a room, search now runs a chance of turning up more than one at once.

glory mobs!
- the oublie cathedral guardians now give glory if you are under level 30
- the fat lady and diablo now give glory if you are under level 20

pooka spells!
- MOONSHINE : that cherry screw wasting time in your inv? that lemonade just molding away? wait til cover of darkness and cast moonshine for a random different drink!
- SUPERFLAT : although no more powerful than earthquake, and working in essentially an identical way, superflat naturally involves multicoloured daisies and gets your target a little...loopy.

also, there was as i mentioned an art update to the site!
artists updated include: art (new guy!), moi (icarus), tavanaka (bogsherry), amred, phil, greenbear (tcarah), maniacTHP (roren), chukotto, anthonius (jemli), cilaw (new guy!), cypress, ruck, golaro, brassu, fax, makr (new guy!) and naturally the pchat folder.

and who gets featured artist? weeeeell...

okay, here's the rules related to glory coupons, since a few people are confused.

COUPONS are worth 3 glory.
VOUCHERS (details of this not announced, but for future ref) are worth 1 glory.

you may only have one glory coupon per puzzle/boss mob
at the time of this posting that reads as
1 nihilanth
1 progi
1 pyramid
1 queen buis

but you may also have ONE coupon which is counted as a 'present'

that means your friend can give you a coupon and you can have no clue where it came from, but it's still cool to keep.

and a slew more stuff. it's in the 20s, but some of the items can be got at different levels. just make sure you're vis, because not all the mobs can see invis.

and because the work-map cracks even me up, i did a scan of it. it also contains a rough sketch of a buis, so there's that too.

So, I've been IMed a few times asking for help on the MUD, and things of that nature, and I thought I should post to clarify my status.

I'm still on the MUD and I'm still an imm. It's just that there's been a huge amount of drama the past few months (as happens on the internet) and so it's better for everyone if I just step away for a while and do my own thing. I've also not been entirely happy with some other things on the MUD and it's been very stressful for me to come on and have to deal with that. I miss everyone there terribly, but sab just isn't the healthiest environment for me right now.

HOWEVER, I'm still an imm so I feel I have a responsibility to help out. I'm still willing to make things, do glory building (homes, pets, etc.) and fix emergencies like the locker incident a little while ago. It's just that I'll pop on, do it for you, give everyone a hug, and then pop out. You'll just need to send me an e-mail (ask around if you need it) or send me an IM or whatever so I know you need help. I enjoy building, it's just the other stuff is not as much fun at the moment.

I'm hopeful things will get better soon, because I have a fun quest idea and plans for finishing my current area and three new ones. And even an RP related reason Tare's been gone!

on another build-related note, here's the updated area-list. if you signed up to build an area on this list but have found you haven't got the time or it's too tough, PLEASE TELL ME so i can keep the list accurate! and yes, i have added some new areas to it.

i'm also taking down a list of edits/ideas, including a bunch of mobs that will drop glory coupons (but only if you are below a certain level!) to encourage exploration of other areas. if you've got some good ideas for tweaks or edits (ie, nazir had a great idea for doors that are revealable on detect hidden) leave it here and i'll give it consideration and whatnot. yop.

finally! ronin's new area forbidden grounds has been fully installed!

well, except for the chance of minor bug fixings needed. but basicly, you can walk in! it's off toadstool in valburg, so gear up for some spooking.

additionally, there was some light tweaking done to the valburg library to make it a bit prettier. also, progi now has a glory coupon - as does the nihilith.

okay guys we just discovered a bug that can lose you items so listen up!

this bug relates to lockers left open on reboot. let me explain the scenario in which the problem occurs:

let's say elan has a locker, and it has 6 deathsticks inside. elan goes on a trip to nazo and picks up 2 rancor nail blades. elan comes home, and opens his locker and puts the nail blades inside. now the locker contains 6 deathsticks and 2 nail blades. he then walks away, leaving the locker open. the game then reboots.

i know this sounds like a math problem but bear with me, because once the game comes back and elan checks his locker again he will only find the 6 deathsticks.

the 2 nailblades are gone. where have they gone? into oblivion, into the code, into SMAUG. any new item you put in a locker WITHOUT CLOSING THE LOCKER will be lost if the locker is left open on reboot. i am explaining this not only because it's a good bug to be aware of but because a few days ago we had a spook with Mysterious Missing Locker Items and i don't want to see people pointing fingers at one another accusing them of swiping locker contents when it was actually a game bug.

if you've been hit by this bug and lost something important, by all means come get me. if you find someone's locker left open prior to reboot with no sign of them or an immortal on to close it, look inside and copy the contents into a note file and ask them (or an immortal) about it later so we can check and see if any items disappeared.

it's earth day, which is the same day Sab was launched. so in the name of Sabrous and the name of the planet which supports your butt every day, go out and do something nice for Earth. go plant a tree, or throw some grass seeds around, or punch a politician. :D

also, altair's birthday is coming up! once again, he wants ART! so on the 24th, POST ART FOR/OF ALTAIR! quality doesn't matter! subject doesn't matter! altair just wants people to draw for his birthday! MS paint, crayons, pencil, cookies with a >:3 face - HE DOES NOT CARE. :V

firstly: there are apparently some connection issues today.  people are timing out (me included) and can't access the dune.net website to get any word on what's going down. i'm still able to get into the system files etc though. go figure! anyway, if you're lagging badly or timing out, know it's not just you.

secondly:new area! ronin's new area, the BLACK LAKE is now up and accessable. it's found north of the northern wastelands and leads up to ew ork. ho ho! do you know what this means? DO YOU? it means we're officially ONE area away from someone being able to walk around the world!

check it out for icey cold water and funky fish. :V

sorry to make two such unhappy notices in a row, but another thing has come to my attention.

if you have custom items made specifically for roleplay and do not use bonuses these items must be TYPE: TRASH

that means that yes, you may have an item called 'a super awesome sword' but it must be TYPE : TRASH and NOT a weapon.
the same goes for 'a pair of snappy trousers' or 'a fancy hat' etc. yes, you can wear it, but it should not be ARMOR. it should be TRASH.

if you have any RP specific items you did not pay bonuses for, please have them checked for their type.
if they are NOT 'trash', please turn them in to Tochi so this can be corrected.

additionally, if you use a bonus to create a weapon you MUST turn in four bonuses to get TWO of that weapon given to you.
in other words, if you made a weapon called 'a drumstick' but wanted to dual weild two drumsticks, you would pay as if you were ordering 2 custom weapons.
the same applies to gear which can be worn in more than one place. ie, you order 'a strip of leather' that can be worn on your ankles and arms...you will pay a bonus for each copy of the item you want at one time.

...in more cheerful news, a few rooms around North Tek were jazzed up with specific indicators pointing new players to help files. IE, the north tek noteboard room desc now specifically says to look at HELP NOTE and all that jazz.

and now...back to watching movies that walk the cusp between b-horror and black and white genius.

i have recently been sent a logfile which has made me very unhappy. so i am only going to say this once, and i am not going to name names, but this is the only warning.

SABROUS IS NOT FOR X RATED RP.

any users found roleplaying sexually explicit scenarios will be banned. this does not mean 'be more careful' it means 'don't do it.'

sabrous is not a singles bar. it is not a cybersex chatroom. if you want to find someone to roleplay your character's significant other, that is fine, but you WILL keep it pg13 inside the MUD. if you absolutely HAVE to get your rocks off, go SOMEWHERE ELSE. i, the owner and moderator, am saying this only once- you are not to use Sabrous to get yourself off. I don't care if you are new or old or what level you are. Anyone who does it will be banned.

the who list is a pretty princess now! you are no longer split up according to peaceful/deadly/immortal, you are now split up as mortals(all) / clan name / clan name / immortals.

also, you should not experience any more problems with 'you are lacking age and experience' if you set your age lower than 18 on your character, now. and hopefully with this next reboot, your play time will be restored.

HOWEVER! members of the order of the sun have accidentally been removed from the order! this is due to changing the order's name to fit the new who list format. if you have a character in the order and were removed, please bug me and i'll put you right back into it. chuian mafia members are just fine, no worries!

a few other minor tweaks are coming, but let's see if either the codewarrior or tochi have time this weekend to go through them.

while this is not an actual update, i feel this news should be brought to the attention of the sabrousians.

the creator of dungeons and dragons has died. now, you may not all be hardcore nerds and maybe some of you (or a lot of you) never played a tabletop RP. but SMAUG code, and therefore sabrous, were built to run on the rules this man came up with. so in a way, without him, we would not be here.

so as a nerd and a sabrousian, please show a moment of respectful silence.
