| A fond farewell |
[Oct. 9th, 2008|11:17 pm] |
Okay, so anyone still coming here probably already knows that Ian has offically announced that RPGWorld will never be updated by himself again, but he is letting others continue his work. So I got a two fold request here.
1) if you do pick it up, please don't do what the person below is suggesting (no offense, just my humble request). Please stay true to what Ian was planning and the tone and pace he has developed for these characters. Despite his own personal beliefs, RPGWorld has done an amazing job of developing the characters and weaving an intricate and fascinating plot. Please don't revert it back to the beginning.
2) I thought it would be really cool if we gave Ian a fond send off (if he ever checks this place anymore) by posting all the webcomics that RPGWorld references can be found in with a little picture of the reference. I don't know if that's possible or not with LJ so if you can't just give the url with a description of where the reference can be found.
For example: Order of the Sick #213 first panel, lower left hand side. "Sigh... Times are tough"
or, my preference just an image of the reference panel.

(make sure to read this from the beginning at http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0001.html)
RPGWorld made a huge impact on the webcomic community for it's humor, it's plot, and it's originality.
If you continue the work, please, make certain it stays that way for all of us fans!

| I'm writing for RPGW and I don't care if it's used or not. |
[Oct. 9th, 2008|10:58 pm] |
Seriously... the plot got kind of bland.
It just got much too complex and such, and now I feel like we've rushed too fast to the final boss.
I have a funny way to clear things up... or just throw the story to the wayside and literally "start fresh."
Jim (from the little mini-series between discs) comes back from having a "life". He decides to pick up where he left off after three years... only to find his friend came home drunk and broke up his DC and his memory card. Luckily, the discs are safe.
He now has to start from the beginning... or does he? He has... GAME WHALE CHEATS!!!
There our story will pick up... from somewhere... I guess. I'm still working on a script. Give me time.
Peace.

Hey, everyone, check out the site today.
No, seriously.
But if you don't believe me (or are lazy), there's some nummy copypasta for you behind ( the cut. )
I already e-mailed; I'd love to see a revival (or an end? Possibly?) to this madness, if only for my favorite character's sake. :D |

| RPG World Comic found it's way back to the front of my mind |
[Sep. 6th, 2008|09:01 pm] |
So, I recently got out my ol' copy of RPG World Comic book volume 1 recently, and started reading through it again. This turned into me flipping back to several pages a good amount of times throughout the day, every day, for the past week.
I went on to the website today, hoping that maybe it had been updated, but found that it wasn't.
That's cool though, because it gave me a chance to run through the archives. After reading through the archives again I fell back in love with the series. RPG World Comic has always had a special place in my heart. Although it wasn't the first webcomic I stumbled across, it did make second place. And of course, as mushy as it sounds, first place in my heart. I remember when I first started reading, back in my high school years, just starting out in a whole new school with new people and friends. It was a bright, shining beacon of my teenage years (although I am still technically a teenager at my current age, 17, but you know what I mean) and it would always bring me a big smile, three times a week.
At the time I had a lot of webcomics on my plate that I tried to keep up with, but I always savored RPG World Comic the most out of the lot. I loved the writing, the art style, the heroes, the villains. They all had a brilliant back story, a unique personality, and would always make me wish that an RPG would come out that would leave a bit of space in them for this kind of comedy.
RPG World Comic was the web comic that even inspired me to pick up the mighty weapon called the pencil, and try my hand at doing a web comic. Although I didn't successfully crack into that business, what with things in my life taking up too much time, RPG World even now makes me want to pick up a pencil and try banging out a few comical characters and witty punch lines. It has always been a great inspiration, and will continue to do so, even as I grow older, and hopefully make it into the web comic business.
Ian J, you brought a lot of happiness to so many fans, and I am one of them. Your work inspired, brightened, and touched many people. I do hope you succeed in whatever it is you try to accomplish, because you truly do deserve it. Thank you for making a part of my life so much better because of it. |

| RPG World |
[May. 31st, 2008|10:24 pm] |
Hello,
I recently checked on RPG World, because I remembered it being an entertaining read. I was happy to see some new stuff since I last checked (some time in 2006). Well, in reading the newer posts and what was written, I was a little saddened to read this line:
"I never thought I'd be writing Shakespeare or anything but looking back at the comic archives became embarrassing."
I just want to encourage Ian that, while it wasn't Shakespeare, RPG World is and always will be a landmark of online comics. I recall saying, "*sigh* Times are tough." to a friend over the internet I hadn't seen since eighth grade, and my friend started laughing hysterically. It is entertaining, something many comics still fail to do! It was fun and made you want to keep reading it.
That's really all I wanted to say. This is meant only as encouragement, not complaining about RPG World not having been updated.
I hope all your works go well, Ian! |

| [ | mood |
| | cheerful | ] | Hi Ian,
You probably don't remember me, but I used to post on the (very buggy and post eating) old Keenspace forums, under the handle "FF Fanatic". What you may remember, for better or worse, is what I ended up doing at one point. I was part of a group of role playing forum members, who ended up making another forum for role play alone. I just wanted to get that out in the open, before posting the rest of this:
Your comic was one of the first on-line comic strips I started following, back during my sophomore year of college back in 2000. I still can't believe it's been that long, sometimes. I was usually a very shy and quiet person, until I joined your comic's forums. Talking with people there helped me to loosen up a bit, and slowly come out of my reclusive shell. Eventually, I became friends with several people there. While many of the posters eventually moved on to other things, I still chat with many of them today. I even met a few at an Otakon convention, finally meeting them in person. This is something that would not have happened, had we not all been readers of your comic.
While I realize this is all indirectly related to the comic itself, I just wanted to say thanks for giving us the opportunity to meet and befriend one another. I know the forums for the comic, and the comic itself, have caused you a lot of grief over the years. But I just wanted you to know that I enjoyed your comic very much, and that it had a very positive impact on my life. Thank you for sharing it with us, and helping me to make many good friends.
I'm sorry that you're not as fond of the comic as you once were, but I can definitely relate somewhat. I sometimes look back at things I wrote and came up with back in 2000, and wonder what the hell I was thinking. Thankfully, I've also seen some of my old ideas re-used later for much better things. I'm glad you're doing this too, even if it's just cameo character designs in some cases. It's nice to see you're doing well, and most of all enjoying your job to boot. I hope you continue to enjoy your work, and have fun with whatever you tackle next.
And, as cheesy as this is to end with, it feels appropriate.
Despite evidence to the contrary, I still think Eikre is Galgarion =P
Take care man, and good luck. =) |

| Ooh, updates |
[Jun. 12th, 2007|02:14 pm] |
Glad to see something there :D Incidentally, way back in the archives I saw mentioned that someone was making RPG World: The Game. Does anyone know where I could find that? |

| Two questions abut the latest update. |
[Jun. 9th, 2007|08:30 pm] |
| [ | music |
| | Weezer - Undone. | ] | The foremost and most obvious one:
Just when and where is the action taking place? How much of plot was just Infinite Crisis'd out of existence? Obviously, all will be explained in due time, but those of us who'd like to have a vague clue as to what's happening....
Oh, and is Eikre supposed to be a Rouge, or is that a misspelling? Too lazy to read the archives anf find out. |

Wow-wee-wow-wow, I didn't even know this community existed and I feel really, really stupid for not realizing it. I've been a fan of the comic for god knows how long. This is all a little embarassing.
So I checked the website tonight and wow, there's a news entry talking about Ian and why he put RPG world on hiatus, and maybe a hint that he might come back - or he might not. It's good to get an all out explanation that's not fulled with annoyance, though, and it's even cooler that he's been getting a bunch of e-mails! (And to see what he's been working on since then.)
So what do you guys think about this new entry? |

| Yayyyy |
[Jun. 7th, 2007|10:01 pm] |
I forgot I had an account here. Anyway, I'm glad I check the comic every once in a while (and have been since August 2003 or something like that) because it's nice to see that Ian hasn't technically given up yet on his comic. It's a fun, great story and it would be nice to see it end on a good note.
And then I'll wait for RPG World 2. Maybe.
(BTW, I heard somebody made a fan game about the comic, but I can't find it. At all. Anyone else know what I'm talking about?) |

I usually never do this, and I'm a very quiet individual. I even reactivated my account to say this. I always enjoyed Ian's story. I think that he shouldn't ever be ashamed of it. I understand not having time, or not enjoying writing it. But Ian should be proud of his comic, because it entertained so many people. Thank you for still caring and posting more. I don't care if Ian stops the story or not, but I do hope that if he does, he stops for the right reasons. |

Hey, everyone! There's more new stuff up, complete with a blogpost! And even if this is never read, thanks, Ian, for the explanation. I think I might be speaking for everyone when I say that we appreciate it. Even if there isn't much else after this, thanks.
(And, yes, I am new to this community. :D) |

I love Ian! He's giving us pretty comics to read! Says he's gonna do it for a week too! Every day. I hope this means he might pick up the main storyline and give it the finale it deserves!

| An e-mail to Ian J |
[Jan. 15th, 2007|10:36 pm] |
Hey Ian.
My name is Emily, and you have no idea who I am. About four and a half years ago, I ventured into the world of video games when a friend of mine came to visit, and brought this crazy contraption known as a "playstation" and these things called "Video Games" over to my house. Amongst these video games were Final Fantasy VII and IX, to which I very quickly became addicted. I played them non-stop, almost entirely ignoring his presence for that week he stayed at my house. Finally, he left, and took these games with him...Oh how I mourned the loss of my precious, precious games. I was about 15 at this point in my life. I craved more RPGs, but I lacked a system to play them on, and my computer lacked the capabilites to use such crazy contraptions known as "emulators." It was at this point a good friend of mine recommended this crazy thing known as a webcomic called "RPG World."
Whaaat?! What is this "webcomic" that you speak of? Upon begining to read it, I was immediately enthralled by it's humorous tale, and amusing characters. It was a couple of months later when I discovered an aquaintance at school also was a huge fan of your comic, and she quickly persuaded me to join the forums.
Since then, it's been one adventure after another, and I am proud to say that even since the original closure of the RPG World forum, there have been a number of us that have still retained that sense of community. We still have about 25 regular members from the orginal boards, and another 50 that pop in on a semi-regular basis.
The other day one of the newer members just started a thread announcing his one year anniversary on the forum, which got everyone started on how long each of us had been a part of the community, the oldest being about four years and seven months old. I thought it was neat how we're still all together after all these years, and kinda wanted to thank you for sparking it all. If it weren't for your comic, none of us would've ever met, and yet because of it a lot of us have been talking for years.
In that thread, one of the members posted a link to the comic that he had joined at, and I started reading through the comic again because of it. It's too bad you never finished the story, it was a lot of fun to read, and I've probably read through your archives six or seven times by this point, though this is the first time in about two or three years.
I was kind of curious if you were ever planning on finishing the comic. I figure that the answer is probably a no, but getting a solid answer would be nice. I just finished it this afternoon, and you really did leave off at quite the cliff hanger.
Anyway, I just thought I'd say thanks for all the fun and games.
If it's of any interest to you, the forum we're at now is www.thekidsarentalright.org We've changed names multiple times since the original forums closed, but that itself is another story, which would take entirely too long to tell.
But yeah, as I said, thanks for all the fun you've given us. I think you've had a pretty big impact on most of our lives, which is saying a lot considering most of us have probably never even e-mailed you. All you're really known as is the infamous "Ian J." and yet you managed to bring all of us together.
It's been fun. Thanks.
-Emily |

Hello. New to the community, not the comic. Anyway, I was thinking the best Christmas and/or other holiday present ever would be a new RPGWorld from Ian. Do you not agree?
Ian, make me the happiest child on earth Christmas morning.
