    Progress Report 2 out RSN
With any luck, you will have noticed that on Monday 11th, we did the address ping for Progress Report 2 (i.e. the bit where we send you an automated email containing your membership details, and you point out we can't type... you know the drill).

If this is news to you, then check your spam filters for something with the subject line "Redemption 2009 Convention Booking", from membership@conventions.org.uk.

If you *still* can't find it, then:
    a) Have you changed email address since registering?
    b) Did you, indeed, *give* us an email address, when you registered?
    c) Did you, in fact, register?

If you're pretty sure one of these should be coming your way, but you still can't find it, email us at membership@conventions.org.uk, and we'll see what went wrong.

    Redemption '09 t-shirts
I will shortly be putting in the print order for Redemption '09 t-shirts!

Since the very first Redemption was ten years ago in '99, we're celebrating a decade of fabulous cons with this year's "Redemption X" design, featuring the logo as the main print, and on the sleeve.

If you'd like one of these, you could just wait until they're printed and hope you can get one in your size. But why take the risk? Put your order in now! Mail me with your name, address and size, and I'll have one printed specially for you. See how nice we are to you?

All the shirts are black, with white print - just how you like 'em. they're £13.50 (UK pounds), and that includes postage and packaging, for UK buyers (overseas, check with me first).

Sizes are Small (S), Medium (M), Large (L), Extra Large (XL), and then you just start adding X's: XXL, XXXL, XXXXL.

Details are on the website, too.

    London Blake's 7 meet
The Blake's 7 Forum London meeting will be Saturday 2nd August. All welcome. We will meet at Lancaster Gate tube staition, from 1 till say 1.30pm. Lancaster Gate is on the Cenrtal line.

The nearest train station is Paddington, (on the Circle, District and Bakerloo lines).

We`ll then walk from Lancaster Gate station to Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. This park boasts formal plantings, the serpentine gallery (free to enter, so could provide shelter). It also has a Lido (outdoor swimming pool).

Other attractions include boating lake, Peter Pans statue, kiosk, bird sanctuary, restaurant and cafeteria.

Remember to bring your own food and drink (NO BOOZE).
It would also be nice to bring nuts and seeds for the wildlife...

After eating we can explore the parks facilities of peruse the long list of cheap/free museums exhibits.

For those who come down the day before, the London group will be having their monthly Beer & Blake's 7 event on the Friday night. This will start at 7pm at the Knights Templar, 95 Chancery Lane WC2A 1DT. This is a real ale pub that does reasonably priced food.

    Treasurer for Redemption 11
Yes, you read that correctly, it does say Redemption 11.

We are looking for someone who would be willing to take over the role of treasurer for Redemption 11. We are asking this far out because we want a smooth hand over and because money for Redemption 11 will start coming in during Redemption 09.

Ideally, we want someone with some accountancy experience or who has done the treasurer's job for other organisations.

If you are interested, please contact me offlist with some details of your experience and your phone number.

    Charity auction
You know the convention must be getting close, because I'm on the scrounge for donations for the charity auction.

Root though those dusty cupboards, reclaim your shelf space!  Dig out all those photos from shows that are no longer your favourites.  Free yourself from that Star Trek chess set, divest yourself of that replica costume that no longer fits you.  Where's that Liberator jigsaw you've had tucked away all these years?  How about those Babylon 5 insignia lurking in a corner?

Maybe you've got a birthday present that you really don't have space for, or a poster that no longer appeals, or more Dr Who novels than will fit on your bookshelves.  While we mostly expect SF memorabilia for the auction, we've had occasional non SF items that have fetched good prices.

So, mail it to me before the convention if you can't be there, or give it to me as early as possible at the convention.  If you can't find me, give it to Richard (the man with the ginger beard) in the dealer's room.  (Early is best.  It takes several hours to sort out all the lots and number them.)

Items that will fetch low sums, such as video tapes, we'll sell at the charity table in the dealers room.  Items likely to fetch more will be sold in the auction.

If you're donating a particularly interesting item, let me know before the convention and we'll try and advertise it in advance.

Thanks as always to those who have donated so many varied items in the past.

    Bristol Beer and Blake's 7
There's going to be another gathering for Blake's 7 fans in Bristol in July. All welcome; the more the merrier:

When: Saturday, 19 July, 12:15 PM

Where: The Knight's Templar, Unit 1 Temple Square, Temple Quay, Bristol, Avon, BS1 6DG.

To get to the pub from the (railway) station, you walk straight through
the ticket gates and foyer, ignoring the main exit to your left, and out
into the covered car park. Go straight through the car park and out, and
you'll be on the path leading to Temple square. As you arrive in the
square, the pub is the large glass-fronted building on your left.

Here's how to get to the pub from the station

The event goes from approx 12.20 to 7pm, though some of us may stay longer.

If this is your first time and you don't know any of us, let us know what you look like and roughly when you'll be arriving so we can look out for you.

Looking for volunteers for panels for Doctor Who stuff!
Hi, everyone! I'm calling out to Doctor Who fans, old series and new series fans to help me out a bit:).

I've volunteered to host a panel on Doctor/Master, and I would love to have two other panelists with me to debate about things such as "Doctor/Master--OTP?" and would love to have slash-minded women and slash-friendly men to discuss this.

And I want to host a panel discussing strong women in old-school and maybe even New Who. Who kicks more arse, Leela or Ace? Which companions are strong and will keep the Doctor in check? Such as Barbara, Tegan, Donna, both Romanas.

I'm also going to be giving a presentation on how to create basic photomanipulations (gen ones, no nudity).

Whovians, let me know if you'd be interested in joining and discussing these things!:)

    How to Rule the Universe
Wouldn't the universe be so much better if you were in charge? Well, not better generally, perhaps, but certainly better for you. And that's what matters, after all. Of course, it's a lot of effort, dominating the countless galaxies and suppressing the unwashed masses, and there's all that paperwork...

Luckily, Redemption '09 offers you the easy path to universal tyranny: get the mindless dolts to vote for you. Yes, you may laugh manically at this point. Perhaps even stroke a white feline, if you have one.

The route to universal domination requires only a few simple steps:

    1. Be evil. We're not sure why this is, but the fools that are your loathy-minions-to-be - even the better class of minion-wannabe we get at Redemption - seem to prefer voting for villains. Perhaps it's because we have all the best songs. Or perhaps it's because goodie-two-shoes namby-pamby heroes are just plain boring. Who cares? You get to be evil, and don't even have to pretend you don't enjoy it.

    2. Be funny. People vote for someone who makes them laugh (how else do you think the universe got to be in this sorry state to begin with?). And with your charm, erudition and quick-fire wit, you're bound to be able to have them rolling in the aisles even as the Death Squads come marching in.

    3. Be a Candidate. Nominate yourself early on, and get your campaign statement in Progress Report 2 (mail steve@whitecrow.demon.co.uk, soon). See (1) and (2) above, if you're at all unsure as to matters of policy. Once you're nominated, your loyal supporters will rush to your side and do most of your promotion for you. And if they don't, you can always have them executed horribly later.

    4. Have campaign posters and other publicity material ready for distribution at Redemption '09 during the run-up to the election.

    5. Be ready to greet the masses. It's tedious, we know, but protocol dictates that you honour the Great Unwashed with your presence and a few bon mots during the Opening Ceremony and at the start of the Hustings. Preparing these in advance will save you much grief later. A closing policy statement at the end of the Hustings is also required. During the Hustings, you'll have to answer questions from the audience (you can have them fed to alligators later, for their impertinence) - but again, see (1) and (2).

    6. Cheat. Must we remind you about (1) again? Obviously, someone as charismatic and awe-inspiring as yourself could win a mere election without batting an eyelid (yours or a minion's), but where's the fun in that? Start as you mean to go on. And see (2) again, as well, because the more imaginative approaches pay the biggest dividends. Or bribes. Call them what you will.

Your humble Progress Report editor awaits your campaign statement.

    Drazi points on offer
I have just been watching episode A13 Failed to Pretend of vampire detective series Moonlight (the episode shown this week in the UK). The scenes as the episode came to an end had a link with the third episode of season four of Buffy (The Harsh Light of Day). Five Drazi points for Redemption 09 for the first person to tell me what the link was.

Paul Cornell will be a Guest of Honour at Redemption
We are pleased to announce that Paul Cornell will be a guest of honour at Redemption 09.

Paul is best known for his work as a Dr Who writer, but his experience is much wider, and we will be making the most of that on the Redemption programme.

Those of you who saw him at Orbital, will know he is an entertaining panellist and we are sure he will make a great guest. A biography of Paul will be going up on the Redemption web site in the next couple of days.
