US Tour [27 Apr 2008|03:35am]

tweed_boy
If you live in the states and can get to ANY of TRP's shows - you better bl00dy go! Two shows down already (Unknown Theatre, Hollywood and The Cellar, Long Beach) and i can easily say they're two of the BEST shows i have ever seen TRP perform. And if you can get to more than one show - don't just say "oh, i won't go tonight, i'll see them at a later show" - come to them ALL!
They're dirt cheap, every night has different painters, different canvasses and certainly a different vibe. Given that it's cost them an arm and a leg to get to the USA - come along and be blown away by their magic. So far both venue owners have demanded they come back again - that's how impressive they've been.

Stop thinking about it, get up off the damn couch and see some amazing orchestral sci-fi art rock!!!

brokengirl01

Before heading to the U.S. in April, The Red Paintings will be doing a short tour throughout Australia in support of their newest single and music video, "We Belong In The Sea."

As the band has been wrapped up in recording their debut full length, and will be in America for some time, we wanted to make sure to hit some cities we haven't been to in a while. This tour will be a temporary farewell to all of our wonderful Australian fans, and will most likely be the only Australian tour in 2008. To thank all of you for your support on the recording of "The Revolution Is Never Coming", we will be playing songs which you've never heard live before. In addition, we will be giving out 5 pairs of tickets (10 total) per show to those who donated $40 or more to us in the past year (more on that below).

PAINTERS & HUMAN CANVASES WANTED!
Since these shows will be themed after the "We Belong In The Sea" single and music video, we hope to capture the haunting beauty and overall feel of the song in a live setting. In order to do so, we want to try some new things out for all of you, but don't want to give too much away. However, as always, we want to have a few lucky participants directly involved in our journey. The band is currently working on set designs and plans for our human canvases, to bring the audience down under the sea with us...if you are interested in participating, please contact us ASAP by e-mailing seatour@theredpaintings.com with the subject "The Red Paintings Sea Painter" or "The Red Paintings Sea Canvas". If you are interested in painting for these shows, a sample of your work would be preferred (but not required). We will be selecting four painters, and two canvases or each show and would like to get everything locked in and explained to you as far in advance as possible.

--

TICKET CONTEST!
If you are not interested in being a human canvas or a painter at these shows, and have donated $40 or more to us in the past year, you're eligible for free tickets! The first 5 people from each city to forward seatour@theredpaintings.com the receipt you receieved (when you donated) will receive free tickets. Please include which show you would like to attend in the header...for example "BRISBANE We Belong In The Sea Tour Tickets". If you are a winner, you will be put on the VIP list, allowed to hang backstage with the band, and be a part of many other surprises.

--

These shows will be like nothing you've ever seen before from TRP, and we are very excited to share them with you before leaving for MUSEXPO -- these will be filling us with the good energy and positive vibes we need to have on our tails returning to the States, so the more of you who can join us for these, the better.

More info soon. See you out there.

The Red Paintings & Their Fans Start Their Own Revolution! [01 Feb 2008|01:13am]

brokengirl01

Six months ago, The Red Paintings embarked on a gamble and an idea hoping to answer a question: Could a band (without record label or management), raise funding to professionally record a full length LP, solely relying on the help of its one of a kind fan-base? As of this past weekend, the band had been blessed to find out; the answer is a resounding YES, they have done it! Many people believed it was impossible, but The Red Paintings have hit their target and raised $40, 0000 towards their debut album via fan donations.

Before recent alternative means, anti-label newsmakers Radiohead and Saul Williams, The Red Paintings were hard at work on their debut full length LP, "The Revolution Is Never Coming". Completely fueled by the charity of their fans -- from a few bucks, to in some cases hundreds of dollars -- every cent made a huge difference...as lead songwriter Trash McSweeney pointed out on the bands official forum this past July, donations of $40 or more not only counted as a "thank you" in the liner notes, but also as a pre-order for the record upon it's production... Though the band is about to dive head-long into their last month in the studio and readying of the artwork for the LP (with an expected release mid 2008), we had to share this bit of information with everyone, and thank you for all of your help and support throughout this battle.

A message from songwriter Trash McSweeney:
THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us to create our debut record, not just financially, but creatively as well.

For the past six months, we have been lucky enough to work here in Australia with New York producer Tidy Kid, all the while seeing a 35 piece string orchestra, harp, painters, woodwinds, brass (including french horns, trombone, and trumpet), and even a theremin, thru the studio. Fans have also come in and helped build choirs, leaving their own "fingerprints" on the record, which has made this piece of art much more special and true to me.

I think this is an incredible achievement for a band who has had very minimal support from the Australian Music Industry. We have had many doors closed in our faces, but despite many blows, we've kept getting up and pushed through, with the help and respect from our fans and friends...I am so amazed with this achievement, and consider myself very lucky -- you all have seen me through some of the toughest times.

When we decided to run with this idea, I was unsure and worried we weren't going to pull it off, but in the end you afforded me the ability to create this album the way I needed it to feel. It was important for me to do at least this one record on my own terms -- without outside pressure -- and you have afforded us that opportunity.

I had no idea just how much love and respect there was for us, and I am truly blown away that we have been able to finish this on our terms. I've dreamt of creating this record for six years, and we are finally in the last stages.

Again, thanks to all of you.

Here's to a successful new decade for The Red Paintings.

Next stop, US of A.

STREET TEAM!!! [07 Nov 2007|01:25pm]

fat_llama
Hello, we’re looking to get our Street Team up and running and hitting the streets and we want your help!

What we’re looking for is a few kids in Brisbane (and surrounding areas) to help spread the word of “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” show. We have the double sided flyers and also some A3 posters. What we’re looking at is finding those who can maybe meet us at their local major shopping center to collect some materials to distribute at schools and other local social areas, or alternatively we can post them to you.

Why should YOU do it? As a little bit of an extra incentive for you kids to help us out, we’re offering a prize for the best street team action!

We ask that all those who collect materials to distribute, if you could take some photos of either yourselves putting up posters, distributing flyers or even come up with something creative! We will be looking at the photos to see who’s done the most and/or most creative work and that person will receive a free double pass to “The Grinch who Stole Christmas show!” and also a free TRP t-shirt!

Anyone interested, please email streetteam@theredpaintings.com with your name, number, what suburb you’re from and even what school/uni/tafe you attend and we’ll arrange times for material collection.

Cheers!

"Hey everyone,

I’ve been thinking a lot about holding another Red Paintings epic production (Well epic for a band with no $$) Xmas party for general public. Something crossed with our Tim Burton show but even more creative, more fun and with more community involvement and many surprises again. After not putting on last year's Xmas show, we received many emails from people who were disappointed because they felt it was the best show they had ever been to and were looking forward to another, which is nice to hear. That show took many many hrs to create and in the end was a complete nightmare for myself and I know Karen and helpers who put it all together, but it was a very special night and I'm so glad we got through it.

So what I was thinking was A Dr.Seuss's/ Nightmare B4 Christmas show held at the Tivoli Theatre ( Brisbane ) in December.

What do you think?"

Posted by Trash McSweeney on on Sept 14, 2007, 1:02am
"Okay well looks like Dr Seuss is in the lead so far.

I’ve been fantasizing about this show all day and now I cant sleep so many ideas running through me. Wow, I think we can do something very unique and inspiring from this incredible writer. Okay if you want to help, what I need is as many Dr Seuss books I can get my hands on anyone got any? Yes we will try making it all ages. I think the Tivoli will charge me a lot more tho, im having chats with them tomorrow about venue hire and costs, but still as long as we can try break even I don’t mind working my arse of to make this the best Xmas show for you all and will be a nice thank you as well for being so kind to the band and myself. I will need all your help tho to get word out there we will need to work on getting 700+ payers.

Wow wont this be fun ;)"

Posted by Trash McSweeney on on Sept 14, 2007, 10:26pm
"Okay.

Wow my mind, just will not leave this subject. Everything I do seems to rhyme with the word I was just thinking, then the more I read into Dr Seuss and his wonderful children books, I realise there is more than meets the eye here, there is some serious intellectual ideas going on here and psychology behind these books. I could be delusional but im finding that I need to go deep into this mans head to able to really put together something that has you all thinking what? What? WHAT? That makes no sense, BUT! When you think about it, it makes complete sense, but you won’t realise it till days after the show. That is where I am right no with this idea, that I have to understand the psychology behind the Seuss before I can put together the stage show and actually pull off something that you have never seen or felt before. This is my mission which means wave goodbye food, sleep my body ill be feeding of ideas.
Oh I must ask, what date is best for me to hold the event. Dates im playing with are Sat 15 DEC, Sat 22 Dec tell me what you want Quickly!

Qld kids finish school 14 dec all other states finish school 21st Dec daft punk play Brisbane 20 Dec. we have to be smart with this because we really need to work hard, very hard to get minimum 700 payers or else the venue will cancel the show. It will all depend on ticket sales and Im sure you agree we have to have this show at The Tivoli Theatre its perfect has great sound system, beautiful environment the list goes on …"

"Here is some Home Work for ya all.

I need some suggestions on what would be a good name to call the DR Suess show.
Any ideas?

There seems to be so many to choose from.

Tivolli Theatre just offered me Saturday Dec 22nd All Ages show. "

New album by The Red Paintings! [05 Sep 2007|09:49am]

tweed_boy
Just a quick note to all you fans it’s now reaching crunch time for the band. They’re currently in the studio recording their forthcoming album “The Revolution Is Never Coming” which will be their debut studio album.

Hopefully you all already own the back-catalogue (Rain, Your Tears Are Warning Signs, Walls, Destroy the Robots, Feed the Wolf and Seizure and Synesthesia) but if you haven’t – get your butt down to your nearest CD store, or onto their website and buy them! Another good buy is the new Dresden Dolls DVD which has footage of Trash supporting them in the US!

What TRP really need at the moment is help from their dedicated fan-base. A $40 donation towards the album will see your name in the album sleeve (in the thankyou’s), a signed copy of the album delivered to your doorstep as soon as it’s released and the current ‘special’ – Any donations received in September will receive a very limited edition white vinyl with "We Belong in the Sea" and bonus never before released tracks + some incredibly cool art work.

In addition, you will be added to the mailing list for exclusive ‘secret’ shows (one has already been held in Brisbane). Note – for those of you who live near Brisbane (or able to get there) next weekend is the Valley Fiesta (Sept 15).
TRP are seeking 50 participants for what will be the largest rebellion to-date. All participants need to met at CBD Art Gallery in the heart of Brisbane city, located level 3/ 99 Elizabeth street at 3pm. From there they will be marching as one big group to the Valley Fiesta via train. The band’s new album producer “Tidy Kid” will be taking the role as Noah!

And if you’re feeling at all out of the loop at the moment – sign yourself up to the forum. Lots of shenanigans take place!
I can reassure you that the forum is better than any support group!

So be sure to pre-order your copy of “The Revolution Is Never Coming” with your $40 donation, and also receive a bonus white vinyl. And tell all your friends who aren’t on here to donate their $$ too!

The Red Paintings @ Electric Light Hotel, July 7th 2007. [01 Aug 2007|01:57pm]

tweed_boy
I've decided i should cross-post this here just in case there are any community members who don't belong to TRP forum.

The Red Paintings @ Electric Light Hotel, July 7

It has been a long time coming, but finally The Red Paintings completed their Robot Trilogy tour here in Adelaide. Thankfully too, since they very nearly skipped our city based on their previous disasters here.

The set began with two human canvasses taking their place on stage, this time wearing not only black body paint but also wolf masks, dancing to the haunting sounds of full-moon howling. After a few minutes, TRP joined the scantily clad wolves onstage and belted out the title track from their newly released ‘Feed the Wolf’ EP. Lead guitarist/singer Trash McSweeney looked resplendent in his Little Red Riding Hood outfit, complete with silky white dress and red cape; whilst the other members wore their trademark kimonos and geisha makeup.

Continuing at a frantic pace, the first half of their set consisted of mainly older songs, including Cinema Love, Just People and Leaves and Fall of Rome, during which Trash introduced the painters of the evening to stage. This sparked a visual feast as on one canvas a devout TRP fan, Gee, went absolutely berserk in time with the music, causing Trash to momentarily pause mid-song and say “look at her go, that is INCREDIBLE!” What’s more is she actually created a masterful piece of a suitably themed alien with her paintbrush, hands and bizarrely, her mouth.

They continued their set with Rain, dedicated to Jacinta (who was instrumental in preventing them from boycotting our city) followed by an incredible cover of Nick Cave’s Mercy Seat which completely blew my mind. A spectacular choice and was performed impeccably. The absence of former cellist Wayne Jennings was most notable during The Streets Fell into My Window, however drummer Andy Davis filled the void by providing the spoken-word parts of the song. It should be noted; however, that new cellist David Sue Yek has slid into the band effortlessly, made evident during Dead Children when he and violinist Ellen Stancombe participated in some swordplay with their bows.

Immediately following Dead Children was aptly, Dead Adults; featuring Noah sporting a massive grey beard/wig performing an interesting version of the biblical story of the Ark over the top of the bands music. Managing to drop the f-word as often as possible during this rant, he proceeded to hilariously tell us how difficult it was to get two of every animal onto his ark, especially the termites, given that it was made of wood! Not to mention the talk of elephant and giraffe faeces... This provided the highlight of the evening, given that all the band members had to continue playing their instruments whilst bursting at the seams holding back laughter!

They closed out the set with a fierce trio of I’ll Sell You Suicide, Stackhat and The Revolution’s Never Coming showcasing how heavy, yet melodic, they can actually be. Following a brief interlude, Trash reappeared on stage for the encore, this time decked out in a marching band outfit, winding a large music box. They concluded the night with the deafening onslaught of The Chase in which Trash joined the crowd and incited them to run around in circles, chaotically stirring the already well lubricated crowd into a fury, before he rejoined his bandmates on stage and collapsed, sprawled across the floor half-dead.

For those of you who have never seen The Red Paintings live before – you really don’t know what you’re missing!

I just want to say thanks for the CD and the little message. I love it :o)

I haven't decided on a favourite song yet, but I'm really liking We Belong to the Sea.

I'll post more of my thoughts when my brain's not short-circuiting so much and my computer's not using my mobile phone to connect to the internet.
