I'm currently working on the Anthropologie-inspired capelet. This is only my second time working on a project that had yarn overs.
OK, I made sure to do all the yo, pm, p1, yo and I checked to make sure the stitch markers were all in the same section. Seriously, I was really careful, but my slants are still all facing the same direction. Looking at the pictures in the pattern and comments over at craftster, I obviously did something wrong.
The sleeves matched up the same throughout, but I know I made a mistake somewhere.
The first section before the first stitch marker is way too short.
Can anyone help me figure out what I did wrong?
I'm thinking about redoing this in a looser gauge and I'd like to know where I went wrong before starting.

I have sticky needle syndrome. Are my hands just monsterously sweaty, or is this a yarn problem? Ive heard that sprinkling some baby powder on you hands before knitting will help, and more tricks? Anybody else have this problem?
( aaaaand some pictures so this isn't too boring... )

I found these on a new (to me) craft site called Cut Out + Keep. The description called them Batgirl Gloves, but they made me think of dinosaurs. Thought someone else might be interested as well, so I'm posting.

EDIT: Batgirl Gloves. I forgot to link the project cause I was worried about making the link to the main website display the name rather than be just a httpblahblah link.

..well, this time he only had to ring once as I was at home. Funny, it's the first time we actually met (he commented on that), usually I'm at work and he has to leave the parcels at my neighbour (thanks for that!).
Being a naughty girl (what else is new) I looted Astrid's Dutch Obsession the other day, right about the time a promo was sent out. So I got a surprise from Astrid and within two working days my little treasure bag arrived:

My boyfriends cat decided to pee in my yarn stash. (She somehow got into the closet and pissed in the box that I kept my yarn in.....The cat hates me...if she wants to foster a happy relationship with me, she can stop pissing and shitting on my things...and for the record, I'm not mean to her or anything, I'm not uber affectionate either).
A lot of my yarn absolutely reeks now. And I don't want to throw it away because we're talking several years worth of yarn being stashed and that would be a lot of money going into the dumpster. Hence, I'm absolutely livid.
But I need help in order to wash it. Does anyone have a good product in mind? The majority of it is your typical acrylic and wool and some cotton. I was thinking I'm going to invest in some rubber gloves so I can undwind it all into loose hanks tied in several places and then either hand wash it or use the washing machine. But I don't know what to use to get rid of the germs and the smell. Help please!!!!

Because I knitted my son an alien, I had to knit my youngest daughter a butterfly. I couldn't find any stupid butterfly patterns, so I made one up, sort of. I found a pattern for a toy that was a tube, so I started with that, and modified it extremely. Knit in Cascade wools, on size 3 needles. She loves it and has named it. ( Twisty L. Butterfly )
This is the beginning of my Selbuvotter mittens; I'm happy to be using my own homespun for it.

This is the alpaca singles I've been working on, slowly but surely. ( Alpaca )
This is the pair of cozy house-socks I'm making for my Granny out of Collinette Cadenza yarn (in the 'Vatican Pie' colorway): ( Socks )
This is the felted bag I was making for mom's gift from handspun. I'm really unhappy with it. :(

Beret and Scarflette
Yarn: Gedifra Fiocco Oro, purchased at Astrids Dutch Obsession
Needles: 6mm
Pattern: my own design.
Beret is a basic beret pattern, with a purl row every now and then.
Scarflette features a simple yarn over, knit two together pattern, the eyelets doubling as button holes
Two vintage buttons as closure
And no, I'm not afraid of colour ;-)
( Sunglasses should be worn after this point )

My manager is pregnant and just found out that it's a girl.
I'd (obviously) like to knit them something. Her husband is an IT guy, so geeky is good. They both have awesome senses of humor so funny is good too.
And because it's from me, it should be on the silly/random side.
Any favorite patterns? I have to say, I'm fond of the Viking helmet and the chicken hat.

This was a toy made for my son out of handspun leftovers. I bought 8 oz of Cotswold batts from Enchanted Knoll Farm, in the 'Chasing Rainbows' colorway. I spun it from the fold, two-ply bulky weight, and knitted this on size 6 needles. The general body shape was copied from Abigail, the Middle-Sized Monster, but I made some mods to it (the head is smaller, I added i-cord arms & a raygun, plus a giant felted eye.) My son ADORES it.
( Unexpected Terrifying Alien )
This is the shawl I made for my three year old from the same two-ply bulky handspun. She's pretty indifferent to it. ::sigh::

I am going to make this hat, and I was wondering if it would be best to use the figure 8 cast-on like suggested, or the knitty magic cast-on? I believe the magic cast-on is used mostly for socks, but would it be used in this case as well? or do I stick with the often loose figure 8?

I thought I'd share my latest knitting finished object, it's a capelet that can be worn as a capelet or a cowl. It's more of a hot pink than in the photo, looks a bit red in the photos, made from mohair.
( Pics behind cut )
Knit on a 24" circular, US #10/6mm . Made from hot pink mohair in stash, looks more red in the photos but it's a mid-dark hot pink.
Pattern is here (and yes it's also on Ravelry):

In a nutshell, my biology teacher is having a baby boy soon and as a gift, I wanted to knit the baby a DNA model toy.
The pattern calls for DPN's but I'm pretty unfamiliar with them for now, so I was wondering if it would be possible to knit with circular needles instead.
I'm still pretty new to knitting, but I've seen some patterns that allow for the use of either type of needles. I looked around for an answer but wasn't able to get a clear yes or no.
As a side note, I also wanted to knit a Binary Scarf. but this also calls for DPNS, but because it is a scarf, could you not just use flat needles?
Just wondering.
...and yes, yes I am a dork.

So I'm starting Knitty's Jaden, and I'm a little confused by:
Scallop Lace Pattern
(Worked over a multiple of 9 sts + 2):
Row 1 [RS]: K1, [k1, yo, k2, SKP, k2tog, k2, yo] to last st, k1.
Even-Numbered Rows 2-6 [WS]: P all sts.
Row 3 [RS]: K1, [yo, k2, SKP, k2tog, k2, yo, k1] to last st, k1.
Row 5 [RS]: K1, p to last st, k1.
Repeat Rows 1-6 for pattern.
Shaping Note:
Within the lace pattern, each [yo] is paired with a decrease. When increasing or decreasing at edge of work (ie. when shaping waist, sleeves, etc.), be sure to keep lace pattern correct. Do not work a [yo] if there are not enough sts to work its accompanying decrease.
I kind of get what the shaping note means, but I'm not totally sure about how best to execute it. Any tips?
Thanks!

Sock Wars was meant to start on friday. I signed up, paid my admin fee, and heard nothing. I have been unable to log on to the site, also.
I received a bunch of emails earlier this morning replying to an email which I did not get, which seemed to imply that I (and a bunch of other people) have been refused access to the site, due to personal problems of the woman organising it. Again, I've had nothing from the site.
I tried to email the paypal address, and got a bounce.
I guess I'm not doing sock wars.
Anyone else have more idea what's going on?

Has anyone seen a pattern near something like this? I'm almost willing to pay the twenty four dollars, or search e-bay and wear a name brand I like it so much.
( Here's the larger picture in case the direct link doesn't work for some reason. )
Edit: Damn, it's not on e-bay.

Thank you to those of you who offered your translating services for the Kellokukka Shawl.
For those of you who want an English translation of the shawl for yourself:
I emailed Elina (the designer) for permission to ask for a translation and also to see if she had any plans to offer a translation on her website. She alerted me that does have a friend working on the translation, which she plans to make available on her website as a pdf during the next week. She sent me the "raw translation" to edit through for her, but asked me not to send it on to anyone else since it is a raw translation. So keep an eye on her site and on Ravelry for the English version!!

i haven't posted on here in a while because i've been super busy writing and dancing, but i've still been knitting! i've been buying undyed sugar and cream in cones and experimenting with all kinds of dyes. it took me a while to get the hang of it, but i've taught myself a lot. incidentally, of everything i've tried, RIT liquid dyes are far and away my favorite. everybody loves procion but i've found that the colors often come out different from the swatches.
anyway, here are pics of the hats i've been making. yarn is doubled and knitted on 10.5 needles. i knitted 20 of them in two months!

I'm getting ready to start a fairly big project and I'm not certain what length circular needles I'll need.
I'm knitting a skirt, in the round, on size 2 (American) needles, out of a 4-ply worsted (Caron Simply soft) at 6 stitches per inch. To start off with I'm going to have 360 stitches. I've got a set of size 2, 29 inch circular needles. Will I need a longer set of needles or is that enough? I've never worked on a project with that many stitches before, so I don't know if the needles I already have are big enough.
Thanks a bunch!
