Sorry, folks. It took me a while to get around to this, but broadly speaking you guys have given me nothing to worry about.

Firstly, I have to say I'm simply bowled over by how many people have joined this comm and made some simply lovely graphics with my art. I wish I could comment on everything, but this project has been keeping me busy and (however little I sleep) I just don't have enough hours in the day. Suffice to say, I love you all and I'm incredibly happy that anyone should want to use my art this way. ♥

However. *puts on serious hat* Since it is my art, I think it's fair to put my foot down on a few issues. If you could look this way, please:

PotterPuff Usage Policy

1. This is obvious, but follow [info]frozenwithin's guidelines. They're here, and also in the userinfo. It'll just keep the community running smoothly.

2. Do not change the lineart. I don't mind filters, blending, Photoshop brushes, things like that, and I don't particularly mind minor clean-ups to get one character out of a pairing (I'm currently changing how I do the lineart for pairing pictures, so I can get two clean blanks). What I do mind are changes to facial expression/clothing/hairstyle, and what I've not seen much of yet but especially bothers me is recolouring one character to turn them into another. I know there are some quite popular characters I haven't gotten to yet (Neville and Oliver spring to mind, among others), and although I doubt I'll cover either (well, certainly not Oliver) in the HBP update, they will show up. Please give me time.

2.a. Since JKR has just announced that Ron's eyes are blue (at least I'm slightly vindicated by the fact that nobody knew before now), I will permit (careful) editing of Ron's eye colour, because God knows I don't have the spirit in me to go back and change all the pictures/icons with brown-eyed Ron. But that's it.

3. I said this on the main journal, but I'll reiterate it here: unless you're posting in a spoiler thread, please don't use HBP icons for a little while longer. I don't mind pairing icons (because anyone who is offended by the spoiler that Harry/Ginny briefly becomes canon really needs to rearrange their priorities) or funny quotes (such as the now-infamous 'Harry was becoming increasingly obsessed with Draco Malfoy'), but please refrain from using 'Puff icons with major spoilers for the next fortnight or so. Thanks. Edit 13/11/05: This rule is obviously defunct now. Spoil however you like.

4. Please avoid particularly offensive language. A HBP icon with 'Nya ha, H/Hr shippers are silly' or something like it (who would make an icon like that? Nobody, but you see my point) is fine, 'F**K OFF, H/HR SHIPPERS, YOU'RE ALL RETARDS' is not. Innuendo is fine; blatant sexual references aren't. Just use common sense, really. If you're not sure if your icon is following the rules or not, err on the side of caution.

5. I will make transparent Photoshop files of blanks available to people who desperately need them for graphics, but this is not an invitation to break rule #2.

6. Please credit graphics both to [info]potterpuffs and the person who made the graphic. It's nice to be appreciated. ♥

7. Addendum 22nd November: Icon-makers (iconists? Iconographers?) should be aware that if their icon looks like this, it's against the rules:



Please do not rip apart my icons to make your own. Even if you use the same font and it looks neat, it's still disrespectful to the point of being rude - it's basically a breakage of rule #2 in a different context. Please do your own cropping/borders, and use your fonts consistently. If you want to use the pixel font I use, it's here, and you can find a number of other good fonts under 'Pixel/Bitmap' on the main DaFont site.

I think that's about it for now - please note that the usage policy refers to all graphics, including FO banners and layouts. If anyone has questions about 'Puff usage, please ask here (and if your question is 'when are you going to do x character?' the answer is almost certainly going to be 'when I get around to it', so please save yourselves the trouble).

I'm so glad you wrote this because I was worried about abuse. You've been very generous to offer your artwork to all of us, and every member of this community should make sure that the rules you as the artist set forth are respected and followed.

Thank you for creating something so wonderful and for sharing it with others. :)

sounds good to me...
my only concern is number two, as i am not sure if something i was working on would be allowed...
i really wanted the dumbledore blank from the dumbledore/fawkes pictures, but withOUT fawkes in it... and since there was none, i was attempting to edit fawkes out myself, though that meant editing in/completing parts of dumbledore's face that were covered by fawkes...
the going is good so far, although i won't settle for anything that doesn't look perfect/exactly how youd have posted a blank WITHOUT fawkes.. so if you don't ever intend on making that dumbledore a blank without fawkes and i DO complete my editing [if youre cool with that], you wouldnt have to worry about it not looking as you would have had it...because seriously, im anal about that stuff :P

other than that, though, it all sounds good :D

I'd like to formally appologize, then, for editing a couple of puffs so that they looked like my HP/RPG character.

It literally didn't even dawn on me that it might be a bad thing, and I'm an artist! Gads... my manners have slipped.

Is it okay to move the characters in a picture? I made a layout for my own LJ using the wallpaper of the 'Snape's worst memory' picture that you made, but in order to fit the text box in I shifted Snape, Sirius, and James over to the left a bit. They still look the same, just in different spots ^^;; Is that okay?

Thanks for being so generous with your adoreable pictures!! Obviously, the whole 'net is becoming quite taken with them ^_^

Hey Naomi, I was wondering what font you use in your icons. I'm sure I read it somewhere in a post made by either you or someone here at [info]potterpuff_fans, but I can't seem to find it. If you can tell me the name and from where you downloaded it, that would be great. :D

Just so I can clear this up (I just recently made a potterpuffs layout, it's not up yet). I can't edit your stuff, duh) and I have to credit. Is it alright if I used your blanks and made my own (poorly-made) background for them? My potterpuffs layout is not up yet, but it will be soon. I just wanted to make sure this was ok before I went any further. :)

Hi!

I know this info covers LJ layouts and such, but does this cover website layouts as well? I'd love to use some of the pictures or blanks for a layout for my personal website. You'd be credited, of course.

I'm so glad I found this. I wanted to start making PotterPuff icons and it's good to know what is and is not allowed (though, I wouldn't dare edit any of your art.)

I could give you my praise for your work, but it would be lengthy and redundant to what everyone else has said.
