Podcasting Fanfic to an ipod near you!

Podslash is to request-make-share slash fanfiction audio files. Podcast for all you pervy slash lovers who can't get enough of their drug of choice online.

What is Podcasting?
Podcasting is a method of publishing audio broadcasts via the Internet, allowing users to subscribe to a feed of new files (usually MP3s). It became popular in late 2004, largely to automate downloading of audio onto portable players or personal computers.

What do I need?
To use the files you will need some sort of personal music player such as an Ipod, a personal computer and a monkey-see monkey-do level of technical capability with both.

How does it work?
Click on the links provided. Save the file to your itunes or whatever program your music player uses. Download the file to your player. Enjoy.

What about Gen and Het?
Yeah ok. But no bloody Sailor Moon, right?

No. Any rated fanfic may be made into a podslash. Just be sure to PROPERLY label it.

Cool! I want to be a reader! How do I do that?!
Any author may submit and read their own fanfic at anytime. If you want to read another author's fanfic, get their permission SEND US A COPY OF IT and record away.

Sounds great, but I dunno how to *make* a recording - could you explain it a bit?
You will need to have the capacity to make a digital recording - the equipment for this can be as simple as the mic & bundled software that came with your computer to a high tech recording studio. Please not that your mic will *probably* pick up a wide variety of ambient noise - try to record in a quiet room. Headphones are a great help - HOWEVER technical you go, you MUST save the file in a widely used format such as MP3.

Do I need special software / hardware to record content?
It helps. Audacity is a multiplatform shareware program that can be downloaded free HERE

For your sample please record a 2 - 5 minute piece of your reading so that authors can get a feel for your style, cadence etc, and can then contact you and request your reading.

Rules
01) Keep it on topic. Posts with a link to podslash, a podslash wish-lists, lists of your *own* fanfic list available to be recorded, tips for interpretive reading, vocal exercises or other resources are acceptable.

02)Author permission MUST be received for ALL podslashes BEFORE recording and sharing of the podslash file. Failure to do so will result in IMMEDIATE suspension. A copy of the fanfic author's permission to make an audio recording of their work MUST be forwarded to the moderator(s) of this community PRIOR to posting a link to the podslash file. EVEN If YOU are the author -- we still want a permission statement to avoid confusion / nastiness.

When approaching authors, make it clear why you want to record their story and who will be listening to it. I suggest something along these lines:

I am a huge fan of [insert fanfic title here] found at [insert URL]. I belong to a community, found here: http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=podslash that shares audio files of fanfiction in a podcast format. Podcasting is:

I would love it if your fanfic were included. There are a couple of ways to do this:
You may either read it yourself, have a friend read it, or it can be read by one of the podslash-cast volunteers. The file will then be shared for download in the podslash community / website.

If you would like to take up the request, reply to the post "claiming" the fanfic, then go about contacting the author to ask permission. No author is obliged to allow his or her work to be recorded. We hope that authors will recognize the value of having their words available in another format, but if they don't, please don't hassle or harass them.

03) Podslash can uploaded onto personal servers or onto YouSendit (send it to your email and then post the link up). Do not direct-link to any files unless they are on your own personal server.
04) All podslash MUST be labeled with at least one of the following:

GEN - Appropriate for a General Audience. No sexual or violent situations.
TEEN - Appropriate for a Teenage Audience. No graphic sexual or graphic violent situations.
MAT - Appropriate for Adult Audience. Contains graphic material that is sexual or violent

05) No promotion of other communities.
