Hey guys, I put up an auction on eBay full of Jareth cosplay goodness... a wig, an acrylic contact juggling sphere, and a how-to DVD, just in time for Halloween! Please check it out, pass it along, whatever. I really want to get this stuff gone, it's almost $100 worth of swag!
I also have a pair of excellent Jareth-style riding boots, made for wider calves, with three buckles that could be removed. Size 11 in women's. Please ask if interested in those, asking $15 + shipping for them, paid closer to $80.

I joined this community because I finally heard The Buddha of Suburbia and my ears exploded with cosmic magic and I just had to tell someone.
"The BBC will make available to EMI all its television and radio archives of the record company’s acts in a five-year agreement under which the two will also collaborate on television productions."
"Highlights of the BBC archive include behind-the-scenes footage of David Bowie’s 1974 Diamond Dogs tour , which will be released for sale in CD, DVD and downloadable formats. A BBC Omnibus documentary crew filmed the tour in a period when the singer was using cocaine. The result was the film Cracked Actor."
And speaking of the BBC archive, in general terms: "EMI will release a small portion of the material as part of CD and DVD sets or downloads. The entire archive will be released on a yet-unnamed “direct to consumer” website owned by the BBC’s commercial unit. “Content will be made available for sale, or will be free with adverts,” Mr Mukaddam said."
The above link contains a few bits concerning Pink Floyd and the Beatles, as well, but the next few years may finally turn up some very interesting releases! The wording suggests that an official release for Cracked Actor will be one of the first projects released under this new deal. I can't wait to see whatever else they decide to dust off.
dizzymartian @ 07:53am:: It was 36 years today that Ziggy taught the band to play - in Santa Monica
According to musictap.net, the first fully official Live In Santa Monica album, as hinted at in the Target EP late last year, is set for a May 27 release. This Ziggy-era show came from a radio broadcast and had only seen a pair of semi-official releases in the 90s.
Of the several new potential releases suggested on that cd, I found this to possibly be the least interesting, but it is refreshing to see that they are moving ahead with them. I am still anxious to learn what the expanded Low will consist of.

Hello-- the BBC Radio 4 show Pop in Tranlsationtomorrow will talk in part about Bowie. Presumably mentioning Heroes. And, uh, other things which he has done in translation. *not a newbie, no*
You can listen to it online, and if you miss it the first time around at 10:30, it's available on Listen Again afterwards.
Cheers!
Edit: Actually, this programme, A Three Minute Education, is more relevant. Oddly enough. So begging your pardon :D
Hi all! I'm in the process of writing a paper for a Nietzsche course that focuses on said philosopher's influence on Bowie. While I am mainly dealing with the theory of the Übermensch in relation to Bowie's earlier albums, I'd be really interested in any other ideas. If you have any links or personal thoughts about this issue, I'd love to hear them! Thanks in advance.

Has anyone purchased this yet? I am having difficulty purchasing a copy from here in the US. I go to order from 101cd, and they are out of stock and they say it will take 4-5 weeks before they can restock it. WTF?!?! So then I try Amazon.co.uk and they say they can't ship to my address, but the other discs I have on the same order were fine. Again, WTF?!?! iTunes US doesn't have it, and all I want is the French version of Bowie's Heroes, called Heros.
Hopefully you can help me out. If you have this on mp3 from this cd, I'd be ever so grateful if you would share.
dizzymartian @ 16:19pm:: The Man Who Fell To Earth misc.
As a quick heads up to those in the States (and Canada, probably), the annual Fashion Rocks supplement is showing up in various publications, including Vanity Fair where I saw it. Anyway, what does this have to do with db? Well, primarily it has a two page piece focusing on his style during The Man Who Fell To Earth period.
It also has a small, recent picture of db with Iman elsewhere in the magazine, unfortunately the whole thing is hiding behind a Jennifer Lopez cover. Guuuh.
Vaguely related- On The Daily Show with Jon Stewart this Wednesday, Buck Henry, who was also in The Man Who Fell To Earth back in the day, made an appearance as a correspondent.
eclipse69 @ 15:03pm:: Glass Spider DVD & 2CD Edition
Mine just arrived today from www.101cd.com in the UK. It set me back just under $32 US including shipping. The US release date has been pushed back until July 31st, and I am not one who likes to wait for new product.
I haven't bothered watching the dvd yet since I am still at work, and it doesn't appear that it harbors anything new that I haven't seen yet. I bought it mainly for the accompanying 2 cd set of the Montreal concert that they performed on August 30, 1987 at Olympic Stadium, former home of the Montreal Expos (now the Washington Nationals in D.C.)
The two cds sound really good despite the fact that this is still a NEVER LET ME DOWN tour performance. The dancers and all the stage pageantry that went on during this tour hasn't aged well, even a month beyond its conclusion.
However, I was curious to how the 1987 versions of All The Madmen from THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD and Big Brother from DIAMOND DOGS sounded. The lone concert I witnessed in person on that tour 20 years ago did not feature those two numbers. The arrangements aren't bad, but they don't better their studio counterparts. The DAVID LIVE version of Big Brother is still the best.
I do plan on ripping key performances from this set, converting them to mp3s for my ipod, complete with fade ins/fade outs. If you are interested in anything off this set for your own ipod, reply here with your email address that will accept email files, and I will keep you posted with my progress, and let you know when they'll be ready to send.
I've done the same with all of David's live albums, STAGE, ZIGGY STARDUST THE MOTION PICTURE, most of LIVE AND WELL, the SERIOUS MOONLIGHT dvd, and the REALITY concert dvd from Dublin, Ireland. It's much better listening to live tracks in random mode without the annoyingly abrasive sudden loud crowd noise. I like it better when the crowd is subtely faded up at the beginning, and faded down at the end. It's a better listening experience in random mode. It reminds me of listening to old 45 RPMs.
EDIT: I've ripped 14 tracks for individual playback from the live in Montreal cd set. The tracks are: 01) Loving The Alien 02) China Girl 03) Rebel Rebel 04) Scary Monsters 05) All The Madmen 06) Big Brother 07) Sons Of The Silent Age (shared vocals with Peter Frampton) 08) Young Americans 09) The Jean Genie 10) Let's Dance 11) Fame (horrid London Bridge, Lavender blue refrain) 12) Time 13) Blue Jean 14) Modern Love (could have been better had Bowie not shouted out the stupid dancers' names)
Follow the link at the bottom of the article to stream the interview (just audio). It's a rather in depth interview, running half an hour.
Judging from how low and relaxed his voice sounds, I think he felt pretty comfortable around the interviewer, and I think he's speaking quite candidly.

Whoa, Bowie on the Cher Show. It starts off as Young Americans, and then it devolves into this medley of 50s-70s WEIRDNESS. Never mind that he's off his nut on cocaine- look for the awkward dancing! Long but SO worth it.
iwasntlistening @ 07:48am:: Bowie and the hidden meaning behind it all?
So I went on Amazon.com to prevent myself from dying or boredom (at work) and wound up buying 11 Bowie cds, totaling $100.00. Halfway through my collection now (woot!).
Anyways, the reason I bought so many were some of the great reviews of the albums. There might have been more people that said they didn't "love it". But it was always that one person who had an elaborate entry on the awesomeness that is Bowie and how incredibly ingenious his album was and the deeper meanings behind it all.
Well now all cds in hand (and soon to be in IPod) I am curious what some of the "deeper meanings" of the lyrics are. I have read one of his biographies so I know some of his history and I have a dvd with this great booklet that goes into the meanings of some of the songs of three cds dated around 74-76 or 76-78 I can't remeber which. But I now want more.
I was checking out a songmeanings.net and they have theories that "The man who sold the world" has to do with God and the Devil, split personality, depression or drug addiction. While it is fun to read , I am more confused then ever.
Can anyone recommend another website or a book or something? You can even just give your insight on it all- or just tell me it's all hogwash...
On Friday may 25th I will be doing a Bowie tribute show from 6-8pm on WQFS 90.9fm. Sadly this applies only to people in the Greensboro, NC area. My station doesnt do streaming. But if you have any recommendations I will gladly take them!
dizzymartian @ 18:14pm:: Mike Garson had the following posted to his MySpace blog this morning:
At the upcoming Highline Shows taking part on the 16th and 17th of May, Mike has been preparing a new composition called "Variations on Space Oddity" which no Bowie fan should miss... this track is something which Mike is quite excited to share with fans....
I am very curious as to what Mike has done with this long neglected classic. In the past, Mike has been extremely generous in sharing his compositions (both solo and with David) from his page, including video of some live work with Bowie. I hope this will not be an exception...
Is anybody from the community planning on catching any of the Highline shows this month?

The release date of June 25th is still on schedule.
Here's the tracklisting for the DVD. All selections are 2007 digital remasters:

These two tracks are replaced by six others that don't appear on the DVD: Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps), All The Madmen, Big Brother, '87 And Cry, Time Will Crawl and Beat Of Your Drum.
Here's the tracklisting for the double CD:

A whole lot of 80's Bowie is on the way...
Had this been announced on the first, I would have doubted it... but the BowieNet item on the news page is dated the 30th. It appears that nearly all of the singles, b-sides, and remixes between 1984's Blue Jean and Fame '90, as well as three from the first Tin Machine album, will receive digital releases on iTunes June 11th. Seventeen in all. In addition, five Tin Machine videos (including the twelve minute medley from the first album) will see digital release... AND a digital release of the LP version of Never Let Me Down, just in time for it's twenty year anniversary. Seven of the ten tracks on NLMD had different versions than what was appearing on the then brand-new CD format and never appeared elsewhere until now. Behind the cut are all of the details:
The Arcade Fire, Air, Deerhoof, Secret Machines and the Polyphonic Spree are among the first acts confirmed for the inaugural High Line Festival, which, as previously reported, will be curated by David Bowie. The event will run May 9-19 at venues near the High Line, a public park being created atop a long-abandoned elevated railway line on the west side of Manhattan.
I was researching film schools to attend and came across the London Film School, they have a link for their 50th anniversary and some alumni talk about their experiences there. And guess who made an appearance: Duncan Jones
dizzymartian @ 10:49am::
Mike Garson posted to his MySpace page this morning a lost recording from the infamous final Ziggy Show in 1973. Prior to David and the Spiders taking the stage themselves, he played a four song medley of Bowie tunes... and for the first time in 30+ years, they've been unearthed.
Mike tends to rotate the music on his page on a frequent basis, so if you're interested in checking it out or downloading it, you'd be better off doing so sooner, rather than later.
crimsonxdark @ 17:54pm:: Bowie Secrets from Late Night with Conan O'Brien
I just found this on YouTube (it was put up only a day ago), and it cracked me up! For anyone who didn't see it when it aired, or who wants to watch it again -- and it's definitely worth watching again in my opinion ;) --
First up, this is the pallas_athena mod, dizfrommars, under a new name for a new year (or whatever).
Of much more interest, a new old release!
On March 19th, the 1980/1987 third of the Platinum Collection appears to finally be set for it's own release of it's very own. In an interesting twist, it will be released with a DVD of 15 period music videos... including two which were not on the Best Of Bowie DVD collection: When The Wind Blows and The Drowned Girl.
Due to ongoing work on a new project, David Bowie has announced that it will not be possible for him to perform at the Highline Festival in May. He will however continue to curate the event alongside Highline producers David Binder and Josh Wood.
Further announcements relating to the festival line up will be made shortly.
MSN.com has a list of their top 10 best singers-turned-actors, and guess who made the list?
"The Thin White Duke has been as weird on-screen as he was onstage, but here’s the thing: He’s good. Really good. In “The Man Who Fell to Earth,” he underscored his eccentricity by playing an actual space oddity, an alien who travels to the blue planet in search of water. Then came “Labyrinth,” which endeared him to stoners and Jim Henson fans everywhere, and “The Last Temptation of Christ,” which endeared him to almost no one, though he was good — he played Christ-killer Pontius Pilate. He’s been Andy Warhol, he’s teamed with David Lynch ... the man seeks out the unusual roles and plays them like no one else."
For at least the third time, a release date has been announced for the 'Special Edition' of Young Americans: March 19th.
Nothing has changed from the last announcement, with the special additions being a previously unreleased 'strings' version of It's Gonna Be Me, Who Can I Be Now? and John, I'm Only Dancing (Again), and a DVD with footage from the Dick Cavett Show (1984, Young Americans, and an interview). If it's anything like the previous special editions, it will also have rather extensive notes included as well.
With the man turning 60 in only a few days, hopefully this is the first of many announcements to look forward to in the new year.
spike_o @ 15:56pm:: David Bowie and Cher become Elite Beat Agents
"Glancing at the newly revealed track listing for Elite Beat Agents instills some sort of inescapable fear of impending doom and cataclysm. There's every reason to suggest that lumping songs from Madonna, David Bowie, Chicago, Cher and Earth, Wind and Fire (ask your parents) onto a single storage medium could run the risk of melting the entire universe into an amorphous puddle of writhing pain. Oh, Ashlee Simpson's on there too. She usually has that effect all on her own.
Chris Kohler at Game|Life has scooped the entire song list for the upcoming DS game -- which, by the way, is the English spin-offy version of Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!, a music-and-rhythm masterpiece made most memorable by its screen-tapping J-pop tunes, inspired humor and screaming male cheerleaders. Instead of trying to twist the game into a shape more suitable for the Western market, Elite Beat Agents aims to present the same gameplay (insidious spinners included), but with new scenarios, secret agents instead of cheerleaders, and different music. Different here having the definition of fruity and from a strange time.
Discovering how these "college frat party" songs (says the game's designer, Keiichi Yano) match up with the visuals and gameplay will no doubt amuse us to no end, especially when it comes to hits like Y.M.C.A., ABC and (gngghh) Sk8er Boi."

I've been obsessing over these 2 albums for a couple of months now, and I was wondering what other people thought of a few things:
1. Which do you prefer: or are they too different to compare?
2. Lodger was recorded in Europe, but it talks a lot about Africa (African Night Flight, Move On references Africa, etc). Does anyone know why, or have any thoughts on it?
3. For any NIN fans here; Trent Reznor has said he listened to Low constantly while writing The Downward Spiral album. Can you recognize that muse when you listen to TDS?
4. Does it seem to anyone else that all the songs are only half-written...on purpose?
bowiebabe1973 @ 23:34pm:: Saturday May 19th Added To Highline Festival!
We posted a news piece last week regarding the dates for The Highline Festival in New York next May.
Well, we are very happy to be able to confirm that another day has been added to the end of the festival, and the Highline will now run for eleven days from Wednesday May 9th to Saturday May 19th, 2007.
Stay tuned for confirmation of artists booked to appear and ticket details in a new Highline Festival section when it launches in the not too distant future.
dizzymartian @ 15:07pm:: .1999 SNL full repeat repeats.
For those in North America who don't care to sleep at night (or who have VCRs/TiVo), the full 90 minute version of David Bowie's appearance on Saturday Night Live in 1999 with Jerry Seinfeld will air this weekend in many areas as a 'classic episode'. This is the complete show, so it will include Rebel Rebel towards the end, which is not part of the 60 minute version shown occassionally on E! and Comedy Central. (The other song performed is Thursday's Child, his then current single.)
This is definately a 'check your local listings' deal. In some areas, the classic episode airs immediately after the episode from the current season, and in others (such as where I live), it doesn't come on until some two additional hours later.
bowiebabe1973 @ 23:25pm:: Highline Festival Dates Confirmed
It gives us great pleasure to be able to confirm the dates for The Highline Festival in New York next year. We were holding back to announce a full detailed breakdown of the event in an upcoming Highline Festival section on BowieNet.
However, we understand the need to book flights and time off work, etc., and so we are happy to confirm that the festival will take place from May 9th to May 18th 2007.
Stay tuned for confirmation of artists booked to appear and ticket details in aforementioned Highline Festival section when it launches in the not too distant future.
The always interesting blog, Lost In The 80s, focuses on music which... could now be considered 'lost'. Imagine that. These are usually the songs, albums and videos which follow an incredibly successful period for an artist, but they can't quite do the trick again. Or come anywhere close to it, in many cases.
Anyhow, the subject over there today is a look at the many projects between Bowie and Iggy Pop, with a focus on their relationship in the 80s. It also features a short and amusing YouTube clip of Iggy in concert.
bowiebabe1973 @ 00:47am:: DB To Guest At KCA Event In NYC In November
David Bowie has confirmed he will guest "with a couple of songs" for Keep A Child Alive's (KCA) Annual Black Ball On November 9th, 2006, at NYC's Hammerstein Ball Room.
Keep A Child Alive is a project close to David's heart, and one he obviously felt strong enough about to lend his support to, as evidenced by the stunning image above from the forthcoming poster campaign.
A pair of VIP tickets for the event on November 9th are being auctioned off over at www.charityfolks.com with the promise: "Meet Alicia Keys, David Bowie And Others With Two VIP Tickets To KCA's Annual Black Ball".
But with the bidding already at $5,000.00, I think these VIP tickets may be beyond the financial reach of most reading this.
However, it's probably worth bearing in mind that events like this are primarily organised to raise funds for important charities like KCA, and aren't designed to particularly satisfy the wishes of the fans of each performer on the night.
I'm not sure at the moment if and when any tickets for the event might go on general sale. But, either way, as soon as we have the official line on that we'll let you know.
There are currently no plans for any other live performances by David Bowie before next May's Highline festival. Yes, that line may sound familiar, but there are honestly no plans.
I am reading a book about William S. Burroughs right now, El Hombre Invisible by Barry Miles, and in the first chapter there is a passage discussing Mr. Bowie's interest in him in the '70s, and I thought it was interesting enough to post about.
A lot of you probably know about the Diamond Dogs thing, but I was very happy to find David mentioned at such length. I recommend the book so far, if you have an interest, though I am not very far along yet.
