| 13 Dangerous Days of Monsoon |
[10 Jun 2008|01:37pm] |
Following a newspaper tip: The US Embassy has identified 13 days most likely to lead to flooding in Mumbai, during the monsoons.
This info is important for all Mumbaikars (not just US citizens), and the City Government should have been disseminating this info in the first place, rather than planning and sniping about a statue in the sea!
Excerpted from an email sent to registered US citizens. See the entire note from the Consulate here
During the monsoon, most flooding occurs during high tide. Mumbai's drainage system is designed to run off into the Arabian Sea. If a major storm occurs during high tide, the rainfall backs up and flooding occurs. Particular concern should be paid during the days listed in the table below. During these 13 days, high tide is expected to raise water levels over four meters (13 feet) and, if there is heavy rain, the possibility of the city flooding is very high. Sluice gates, which funnel floodwaters from the city to the sea, are also closed on these days, increasing the possibility of flooding if there are heavy rains. Please be alert if there are heavy rains during the afternoons.

Hello, I'm a regular visitor to Mumbai—I tend to spend one full month each year here—but am often at a loss as to what's going on in the city. What's your favourite way to keep updated on the current events? Is there a good website? A number to call? Newspaper listings? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

| History of Public Dining in Mumbai |
[18 Feb 2008|11:38am] |
Folks,
Antoine Lewis "will be speaking on the history of public dining in Mumbai from the early 1800s to the present. The lecture will be held on the 28th of Feb at 7.30pm at Hotel Ritz, Churchgate."
Antoine knows the subject very well, and he is the editor of Savvy Cookbook. He kick-started the Bombay-On-The-Menu group with an expanded version of this lecture. I can vouch that it is amazing, interactive, fun, and gyaan-filled. I recommend this to anyone genuinely interesting in the food scene in Mumbai. Knowing the gang, a food outing, possibly one of many, is sure to follow.

About a year ago, I'd started working on a project. Well, I'm happy to say that it's sort of done. Well, at least as done as it will ever be, given that I'll be shifting bases in a few days.
So, here you have it,
Let me know what you think.

| SMS Span worse than email spam? |

Do you agree that SMS spam is worse than email spam? If yes, how about an idea that your service provider spams you as if it's desperately trying to make money to stay in the business? I received 11 spam SMS from reliance during the period of 20 days (19 August to 8 September). Here are the messages I received and I will like to clarify to the marketing team at reliance who are so fascinated of selling special mobile numbers like 9323933333 and marriage counselling services that I am interested in none. Please do your homework before sending SMS messages. This may be free of cost to you since you own the network and have the database of all mobile numbers, but it disturbs me while I am working/ traveling. I have to read the message to see if it's not an important private message and after reading this junk, I have to delete it immediately to free memory that takes another minute or so. I hope I have made myself clear enough and request the service providers to stop spamming their own customers.

| Asiaworks training and Large group awareness therapy |
[18 May 2007|06:14pm] |
Went for the second of the Asiaworks life skills courses in Malaysia and it was absolutely outstanding. I asked them why they don't do it the courses in India and they said it was because they only go to cities where at least 50 people sign up for the first course. So if anybody is interested in Mumbai let me know and I'll organise it.
Asiaworks gives seminars on how to get a clearer idea of what you want out of life and what needs to be done to get it. There are three main seminars that are done sequentially:

Hiya.
Those of you who know me will realise this is an extremely uncharacteristic post but need to know.
Suggest good newish club in the city? Something dark and dancey and preferably open later than usual.
Haven't been to anything new in a while and feel the inexplicable urge to stretch my two left feet.
Cheers :)

Does anyone here know the process to apply for a duplicate Driving License in Mumbai (Andheri R.T.O)? I've lost mine and unfortunately don't have a photocopy of the same. Nor do I remember my license number.
Also, since I'm not physically present in the country, what are the chances that my father / brother will be able to obtain this duplicate license on my behalf?
Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
