1 Where do you live ? Where do you go hiking, which mountain ranges do you know ?

2 When do you go in the mountains, with what kind of equipment ?

3 What is your favorite work of art, book, photograph, etc, related to mountains ?

4 Would you say that when in the mountains, you lead a different lifestyle, in a broad sense - way of acting, thinking, feeling - ? Would you define it ? Do you feel "different" while in the mountains ? In what way ?

5 Why did you join this community ? How did you find it ? What would you like to be discussed or shared here ?

6 Have you got some good tips, experiences, words of wisdom, story to share with fellow mountaineers ? Some ideas for hiking destinations ?

Where do you live ? Where do you go hiking, which mountain ranges do you know ?
-Currently residing in Portland area, from North Carolina, here temporarily, but eventually permanent. Familiar with the Blue Ridge Mtns in NC, and working on getting to know the Cascades while I'm here.

When do you go in the mountains, with what kind of equipment ?
-Anytime the weather is nice, and even when it's not. Equipment uhm, depends on what the mountain is, glacier etc different needs from the puny 6,000 ft peaks of NC.

What is your favorite work of art, book, photograph, etc, related to mountains ?
-Book - Touch the Top of the World, by Erik Weihenmayer

Would you say that there is a lifestyle, a vision of life, associated with the mountains ? Would you define it ?
-Ummm.. what kind of question is that? Vision of life associated with the mountains is to preserve them.

Why did you join this community ? How did you find it ? What would you like to be discussed or shared here ?
-Why not? Don't know how, and don't care what is discussed.

1 Where do you live ? Where do you go hiking, which mountain ranges do you know ?
- I live in Abbotsford, BC, Canada. I hike all around the Fraser Valley, the North Shore mountains above Vancouver, and as many parks as I can get to each season, including Garibaldi, Manning, Joffre, Golden Ears, etc.. I like climbing around in the Cheam and Tantalus ranges, and I'm planning on going to the Rockies this summer.

2 When do you go in the mountains, with what kind of equipment ?
- Depends on whether or not I'm hiking, rock climbing, or mountaineering.. I usually take a fair load of equipment, but lately I've been trying the 'Fast and Light' approach, with a minimum amount of gear.

3 What is your favorite work of art, book, photograph, etc, related to mountains ?
- No real favorites.. I love all types of mountain photography though, and collect anything I see online, in bookstores, or in magazines, as well as take some of my own.

4 Would you say that when in the mountains, you lead a different lifestyle, in a broad sense - way of acting, thinking, feeling - ? Would you define it ? Do you feel "different" while in the mountains ? In what way ?
- I find things are more simple outside, and that the senses are somehow heightened..

5 Why did you join this community ? How did you find it ? What would you like to be discussed or shared here ?
- I found it looking around for different people who like rock climbing and mountaineering, and figured that it'd be an interesting place to hear other people tell stories about routes they've done and epics they've experienced.

6 Have you got some good tips, experiences, words of wisdom, story to share with fellow mountaineers ? Some ideas for hiking destinations ?
- Words of wisdom? Don't look down.

7 Hum ... something else to say ?
- Send it.

1. Where do you live? Where do you go hiking, which mountain ranges do you know?

I live in Central Alaska, but am currently working for the summer in Anchorage, Alaska. I know some of the Central Alaskan mountain ranges & have made several trips, both short & long, in that area.

2. When do you go in the mountains, with what kind of equipment?

I usually go in mid- to late-winter, when the snow is most stable in the mountains. I prefer to take technical gear & am not afraid to pay the extra amount for good equipment. I use MSR for a lot of my cooking needs, Black Diamond for my 'beeners, Marmot for my shells, Patagonia for layering beneath the shells, & Kelty for my backpack.

3. What is your favorite work of art, book, photograph, etc... related to mountains?

Anything black & white, like Ansel Adams, of the mountains really piques my interest

4. Would you say that when in the mountains you lead a different lifestyle...

Not really, I'm pretty much me wherever I find myself, which can be very scary sometimes =P

5. Why did you join this community? How did you find it? What would you liked to be discussed or shared here?

I joined this community to see how other people that are in mountaineering think & to learn about their experiences.

6. Have you got some good tips, experiences, words of wisdom, etc...?

Yes, well, depends on the environment & terrain, I know Alaska snow & mountains fairly well, as well as some parts of the Canadian Rockies, but outside of that, I would have to correlate my experience in Alaska to that situation.

7. Hum...something else to say?

Koo Koo kachoo! I am the walrus!

(1 Where do you live? Where do you go hiking, which mountain ranges do you know?) I live in Seattle, WA. I do most of my mountain-fun in the Northern Cascades, but I'll go wherever I can.

(2 When do you go in the mountains, with what kind of equipment?) When? Whenever I have time, a ride and a companion. I use lug-soled boots, helmet, rope, harness, and ice axe when needed, along with my pack and whatever else is needed, I suppose.

(3 What is your favorite work of art, book, photograph, etc, related to mountains?) I don't really have one particular favorite peice. Ira Spring photography is definetly a favorite, but there are also several peices done by my father that hang in our computer room that I am very very fond of.

(4 Would you say that when in the mountains, you lead a different lifestyle, in a broad sense - way of acting, thinking, feeling - ?) Yes. Absolutely. Undoubtably. Unquestionably. Yes. (Would you define it?) Enlightenment. freedom. release. weightless mind. ... That's as close as I can come, I think. (Do you feel "different" while in the mountains? In what way?) See above.

(5 Why did you join this community?) Because mountaineering is a large part of my upbringing and current life. I guess I wanted to see the points of views of other people in that world, since I don't know very many people that also do this stuff. (How did you find it?) Like many other things I've found in my life: pure boredome. Mix with being an online/LJ addict, stir, look up 'climbing' on the 'Search Livejournal' option, and ta-dah! (What would you like to be discussed or shared here?) Experiances, ideas, insperations, advice, tips, etc... whatever people feel like posting!

(6 Have you got some good tips, experiences, words of wisdom, story to share with fellow mountaineers ? Some ideas for hiking destinations?) First off, I swear I didn't read this question before answering #5. Try the North Cascades and Olympics, if you're in the area. They have no end of experiances and possibilities. Also, The Mountaineers can be a positive connection for some people. Check it out.

(7 Hum ... something else to say?) er... Hinman, Silver King, Red, and Silver Peak hold my childhood, and the future holds the rest. Green bonding is essencial for the continuation of our hobby, and should be introduced to more kids. um. woot!

1. even though the info says alamosa, i actually live on the great plains.

2. 3. 4. i haven't been to a mountain in many, many years. as far as i can recall, i have had two experiences as a boy. one near angelfire nm and alamosa co. and i think that the old film my side of the mountain is probably heavily influential. and yes. i did lead a different l-style and a learn a few things there that changed me from then on, and even a grizzly for the first/last time in my life. i don't remember much about alamosa, which is the reason why it intrigues me.

5. for the same reason i join any community -- feedback and information.

6.7. no. i don't.
