Hilarious!

Half Life.

Hi fellow words! Just wondering if any of you have read Shelley's book, Half Life? I'm only about halfway through, but it is fantastic! If you haven't, read it! I've been staying up way too late every night just devouring it. This is actually the first piece of hers that I've read, I'm so excited to get the story now!

I'm 'on', by the way. Nice to meet you!

Dear fellow words or words-to-be,

I am spending my summer in Washington, DC to do an internship. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in meeting up in person, to talk, get a coffee, visit a museum, whatever we decide on.

Oh dear. This kind of sounds like a lukewarm ad on craigslist ... Anyway, I'll just throw out the general proposal. :)

Best wishes,
Sizifundise.

Oh, another one!

Hello!

I am a new member to this community, although I've been watching for a couple of months. I only got around now to bother and get a livejournal account. ;)

I got accepted by Shelley about half a year ago and am since awaiting my word. I applied in late December 2006. Oh, and I'm from Austria, by the way; the map on Shelley's website says that there is one other word in my country (get). He/she isn't here by any chance? I haven't met anybody who has ever heard of Skin here ...

Does this even interest anybody? Sadly, I have nothing more to contribute in my introduction, at least nothing relevant to Skin, but I hope this will change soon.

So, it's nice to be around fellow words, even if I don't know who/what/how/... I am yet. ;)

Best wishes,

Sizifundise.

Current Mood: nervous
I just re-submitted an "application" to Shelley, asking to be a part of the project. I sent one in in 2005 when I first heard of it, but didn't really hear anything back aside from being told my email was received, but I'm definitely still interested so regardless of the extremely slim chances of being accepted, I'm trying again.

I am SO. Nervous.

Are there any re-applicants in here that have been accepted?

Finally!

I got my word late, when Shelley gave a talk at my school and I sent her a paper I'd given on "Skin," but I've also been really remiss in getting the ink. Since I sent back my release I've totally dropped out of grad school, gotten and left a bad job, and gotten a good job (that I'll be leaving in a year or so when I move), so I suppose my word is appropriate so far. There's no excuse for why I sat on it this long, but I can finally say, rather confusingly, "I'm away,."

I finally got my story today!  I've never been so happy to get a package in the mail =)

4 years after applying, 2 years after getting the tattoo, 6 months since I finally sent in the paperwork.  My journey is complete and my word is still as wonderful as ever.

It's an old/bad photo, but it'll do:

Someone (another word) emailed me today to let me know that there was a Missed Connection about me on Craigslist. The MC identified me by my tattoo.

Just thought it was pretty cool. And if you are the person that emailed me to know about the MC, thanks!

Ok, I've been looking and looking, and I KNOW there was a post/entry here somewhere about what to do if I lose the documentation... I honest to God can't find it and I'd really love to send it all in to Shelley before I start forgetting some of the important details.

If anyone could help me, I'd really appreciate it!

Oh, and anyone going to the Nexus conference next Friday?

An update from Shelley Jackson...

My friends,

You may have been wondering where I was. The answer is, right here, where I have been mailing out batches of stories whenever I find a free moment in my teaching schedule. I'm about halfway through. Like I said, it's a slow process--I remind you again to confirm your current address, to speed things up. Even if your address hasn't changed, it helps me to know you are still where you're supposed to be!
I am also, very slowly, adding new participants.
In other news, it is still winter. Why?

Yours,
Your Author.

I just sent my release back to Shelley Jackson about a month ago, so I'm waiting to see what my word is. I just found this community today.

I'm hoping for one that has punctuation, because I like punctuation.

Hooray!

Edited to add for the folks a couple of entries ago - I applied for a word in August of 2007.

Current Mood: disheartened
So hello all. As I'm sure many many many people before me have experienced, I'm slightly frustrated with lack of contact from Shelley regarding this project... but I wonder: I sent my "application" of sorts way back in 2005? I believe? Summertime. Well either way I was 18 at the time. I'm now 21, still very much interested in becoming a word and being part of this - I'm all in - but I haven't heard anything for a really long time so I'm losing hope. I know there have been THOUSANDS of replies sent to Shelley for this, and she can't possibly answer them all, but I wonder if maybe I've been lost in the masses? If I should email her just to check, or if that would be pestering her? I'd really like to believe that I still have a chance of being accepted but if that's not even a realistic possibility anymore then I'd really like to know so I can try and move on. Does that make sense?

I guess I'd just kind of like to know what to do about this and if it would be acceptable to try to contact her...?

A loooooonnnnngggg wait....

Posted by [info]mudhooks on 2008.01.29 at 03:59
I haven't posted in some time... months at the very least.

Yesterday, I finally decided to email Shelley to see if she ever got my photos, etc. that I sent off in April 2006. I know, I probably should have contacted her before this but I REALLY didn't want to press her because I know that the project has swamped her and she has lots of other things on the go.

Anyhooo. I emailed her yesterday and received an email this morning from her apologising for the delay and letting me know that she DID get my photos, was adding me to the map and I would shortly get my copy of the story. Yipee!

My boyfriend's brother was all like,

"So I heard you got a tattoo... cool... whad'ja get a tattoo of?"

"You"

I crack up.

Or You crack up, You should say.

Is my other pronoun from Palatine around here? They? Is They here?

You am speechless. Can't wait for the brown tube.

Best, all.

Bay Area California words?

Posted by [info]curlyhare1 on 2007.12.22 at 03:55
The map shows a LOT of words in the Bay Area/Northern California. I'm in Alameda/oakland, and there are a ton more in sf, hayward, napa, santa rosa, fremont, etcetcetc. Do any of you guys post here? Would you be interested in meeting up?

I got inked today!

After over 2 years, I was finally able to get my word tattooed. I am "I" and the word is on the back of my neck. Now I just have to send in the info to become verified.

It has been so long, I have misplaced the paperwork she sent. I know I have it somewhere, but can someone refresh me on what all I need to do at this point?

NYC tattoo artist recommendations?

Posted by [info]ms_hawthorne on 2007.12.02 at 17:45
heyllo fellow wordz. i've already got my SKIN tat done, but my partner and i are planning on each getting two really simple, significant pieces done while we're in nyc next month, and i was wondering if anybody could recommend a good artist in manhattan or brooklyn. i had a pretty shitty experience getting my word done -- it had to be redone twice and it's still pretty fux0red-looking -- despite doing fairly extensive research on artists in the city where i was living at the time. so i'm looking for an artist who comes highly recommended, with whom you've had personal experience. i'd also greatly appreciate knowing if there are any artists you'd recommend avoiding.

our pieces are going to be simple, solid black line art, so an artist who did a fantastic job on a SKIN piece would be an ideal candidate. also looking for artists who are willing to work on hands; i know some aren't.

thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Well I'm pretty new to this project, I have known about it, but until now I never really had much of an interest, I thought it was cool, but now that I'm older, I want to be involved.

I just emailed Shelley my interest, and seeing as it takes foreverrrrr to get a response and how many people have applied and what not should I just forget it?

Anyways, hello I'm Jenny and hoping to be a word someday :)
