Ken Livingston formally opened the London City Airport extension to the Docklands Light Railway today, so I think that calls for a celebratory game under the resultant extension ruleset so we can all appreciate the flexibility and new moves that the new stations offer. I'll start:

Well, the old community has been somewhat inactive as of late; I've been off poring over Stovold's 2005 and absorbing the rule changes from the recent IMCS Convivium at the Luton Airport Parkway Ramada. I trust my fellow afficionados have been doing the same, and so that said, it must be time to test the waters of Mornington Crescent once again.
So, taking into account the relaxing of Steed's Gambit and the implications thereof on the Toksvig Variants (A through C, with Farringdon exempted), my first move is Lambeth North.

It may be well known to regular players, but a new Encyclopedia Morningtonia is under development at http://kevan.org/morningtonia and as it is a Wiki, there is obvious opportunity for collaboration.
The Encyclopedia Morningtonia already contains more about MC than I knew: for example, see http://kevan.org/morningtonia?Shortest which tells us that the shortest possible games are of one move:P you can go straight to MC from only four stations, namely Temple, Great Portland Street, Pimlico and Wembley Central. I must admit I had often been puzzled as to why nobody generally started with Temple - and now i know the reason!

Following a most instructive and entertaining afternoon spent playing MC in southern Belgium last week (somewhat of a tribute, the hawk-eyed amongst you may spot, to the now sadly discontinued Luxembourg Open, which ran from 1956 to 1975 when allegations of doping on the Central Line caused, in my opinion, irreperable damage to the professional game), I feel a revival of the community with a quick game or two might well be in order.
So, let's start under current rules, platforms on the Jubilee Line are wide, Hainault is wild and Cockfosters is only open Sundays. To make things interesting and current, Bank is closed for a terrorist training exercise.
I'll play Turnham Green and let's see someone get out of that one without going into Spoon.

While wandering through one of the fine second hand bookshops in Wellington, I stumbled across a first edition of Featherston's fine volume "Mornington Crescent for pleasure and profit: An introduction" and it so inspired me that I thought I would see if it helped my game. In chapter three, there is an elegant game which begins so:
Hammersmith
although the notes do point out that Elephant and Castle has recently been withdrawn as a possible response to this, largely because of the paradox the Newman Rule would create if you tried it. (Work it out on apiece of paper if you don't believe me! Three moves and you're stuck in loop at Monument. No, I didn't believe it either.

Oh dear, this community has gone rather quiet, hasn't it. In an attemt to kick start it, would anybody by interested in a game of Reverse Mornington Crescent?
Obviously, the aim here is to deduce what move would have to preceed the move that has been declared, if the game were being played normally.
Mornington Crescent is clearly the first move.
Anyone up for this? Original Modern rules still apply, of course.

Blast this infernal heatwave! Just yesterday I was settling down for a game of MC. It all started innocently enough. The old Arnos Grove - Temple - Earl's Court - Archway opening but then, as I tried to execute the Innuendum double pincer movement to Sheperd's Bush and St. John's Wood, the heat restrictions came in to play and it became obvious that moves in accordance with Turberry's rules were now producing entirely different results. Well, the track buckled and I found myself, rather unexpectedly, at Park Royal. It will come as no surprise to you to learn that MC followed in less than 1 move.
Has anyone else suffered any similar mishaps and does anyone have any tips or strategies for hot weather play?

Let me introduce myself. My name is Liz, I'm 35, and I'm a MC player.
Now we have the formalities out of the way, let me say how glad I am that there is another MC community. The other one is quite quite dead.
I've been playing since around 1986, and I still recall my first Troughton Maneouvre. (Nearly had my face slapped in the process !) I'm no expert, mind, and have had to be reined in on several occasions after playing a cheeky "Finchley Road" after a Blackfriars.
So. Anyone up for a game ?

An exercise in wordplay which might amuse.
Take Transport for London station names which have two words - or, if you feel like getting away with cheating in a sufficiently amusing manner, one word with two syllables. Try to chain as many together as you can so that the end of one name forms the first part of the next. Important rule: each station can only be named once, otherwise you get into an infinite loop of parks.
Can anyone produce a longer, more elegant or more tortured chain than Chiswick Park, Park Royal, Royal Oak, Oakwood, Wood Green, Green Park?
A certain amount of latitude is permitted, but not to the extent of (say) Surray Quays, Queensbury, Royal Victoria. Thematic, but sufficiently insufficiently literal.
