Arithon fal'al'Bernard.
This, at least, should be becoming clear: he's in the bar. More specifically, Arithon is in the place of or belonging to Bernard, but seeing as Bernard is the Barman, that means the bar. It ends up like this because Paravian doesn't have bloody many words, and the player makes do as best she can. Things have been in Paravian, because Madb is out of interesting entrances.

There is a wave from a table in the back, a face from sometime in the past.

He looks bored.

A recognized, and once harmed, face from the past. With a sharp turn on the heel of his boot, the small Master of Shadows changes his course from the direction of the bar to the direction of the vampire.

"Lord Knight."

He bows. And, seeing as Tom has yet to convince him to stop saying Lord Ostium, Nick would be fighting a losing battle to even try.

"DeBrabant, actually. Knight is...an adopted name, for ease of use."

He smiles up at Arithon, in something of a good mood. He doesn't stand to bow, but he gives an inclination of his head in a show of respect before holding a hand out towards one of the other chairs.

"It's been some time, Arithon. It's...good to see you again."

"Lord DeBrabant. My apologies."

He settles into the offered chair, with something that approaches a smile. Then he holds out a hand, palm down;

"I have heard that vampires can not bear the touch of the sun. Yes?"

Nick peers at the hand curiously, confused as to the choice of topic as well as to the purpose of the hand.

"Yes, but...I don't see what that has to do with much. Mortals can't take a sword to the chest...no one much comments about that, do they?"

He's still smiling, however, despite the slight confusion.

He turns the hand over, and a carved wooden disk is there. It isn't the best carving job in the known worlds, but it is smoothly sanded and obviously done by hand.

"Caith an."

Arithon says, clearly and distinctly. Then shadows swell up from the disk, and wrap him tightly; he is there, and obviously himself, and visible in tones of colored shadows....but no light is touching his skin. The effect is somewhat as though he'd been turned into a 3D painting of himself.

"Cianor an."

And the shadows slide back into the disk, he offers it again;

"It will keep the sun from you, and let you walk in it. I do not know if it will work in a universe where I am not."

Nick blinks.

"The...sunlight? It will...I'll...I'll be able to walk in the sunlight again?"

He stares at the disc incredulously.

"How...why?"

He breathes out finally, running a hand through his hair, confused and delighted and utterly flabbergasted.

"Arithon, sir, honestly...why did you go through all that trouble...for me? Unless...there was someone else it was intended for that...wasn't around to claim it."

"Magic."

Honestly, Nick doesn't have the schooling to understand what Arithon did. Arithon had about twenty five years of immersion in a center of magical learning, classes for twenty of them, and even the people who raised him don't know all of what he can do with shadows.

"And because I once hurt you. Kiel s'kyr'i'on s'Ffalenn."

He takes on of Nick's hands, and presses the disk into it firmly.

"You can walk in the sunlight. At least here."

The smiles he gives Arithon is like sunlight, pure and happy and hopeful. His fingers curl slowly around the disk, turning his hand this way and that to stare at it. His other hand reaches out to take Arithon's, brushing against old calluses. He holds it, rubbing a circle with his thumb, staring at the carved disc with the small hole on the top that would be perfect to hang a leather string through, and smiles at Arithon again.

"What...what were the words again, Arithon? I wasn't...I wasn't listening too well and I don't want to get them wrong."

He looks to him, thankful.

"And...you didn't need to do this, but...thank you. You have...no idea how much this means to me, Arithon."

I can see him in the daylight. I can...I can see all of them in the sun, even if it's just here.

"Caith an."

He says it slowly, carefully. It sounds like: cay-ITH an.

"to turn the shadows on, and cianor an to turn them off."

And that one is: KEY-ah-nor an. After a moment, he removes his hand from Nick's. Arithon s'Ffalenn is not used to people voluntarily touching him, unless they are in the process of beating him.

"You are welcome. I am pleased to have found an appropriate gift."

He nods, not having noticed the hand in the wonder of the gift.

"It is...it is more than appropriate, Arithon. It's...it's a wonder."

He smiles at him.

"You...have no idea how much I appreciate this. Whatever you might have done...this wasn't necessary. You were forgiven the first night we spoke...but...I am certainly thankful."

He dips his head with a faint, wry smile. Any bitter edges are firmly hidden away; Arithon is very good at lying with his expression.

"I am glad. I do not think that I could live without seeing the sun, and I could not imagine that it would be pleasant."

Yes, he's the master of shadows. However, even his non-Caucasian skin is darker than it would be if he hid away from the sun.

He gives a wry smile in return.

"I've often wondered the same, Arithon. And no...there are some things very precious lost with the loss of the sun."

His eyes mist over a bit, remembering one thing or another, before he snaps out of it and peers at Arithon.

"Thank you."

He stands and looks around, needing to share the good news with someone. Finally, he spots exactly who he'd like to tell and looks down at Arithon with a somewhat guilty expression.

"I...must beg your leave at the current, though...as I wish to share the good news with...someone very special. I hope you won't think me rude...or unappreciative."

He stands, and bows;

"Of course. Good evening, Lord De DeBrabant."

And then he goes back to his original destination: dinner.

And Nick practically runs off to tell the news.
