Migraine Art
In an attempt to show friends and family what I mean by "aura" or "going blind" when I get my migraine, I found some amazing migraine art online. Does anyone in the community do migraine art? Or have any favorite pictures? What do you guys think of migraine art?

I'm glad some people can use migraines to create something. Unfortunately I am so inept at art that I am doomed to suffer without any creative benefits.

I really like these 4 pictures (below) because to me they are quite representative of aura, though not exactly what I see when I get it (I don't think anything could really show what I see acurately). Regardless, they definitely help illustrate my visual disturbances to non suffers. The first one is closest to what I get visually, I wish it wasn't so small.

I tried to do something in photoshop that resembles what I get on the rare occasions I do get aura, but I can't even match it. I think I need a Wacom tablet to really drive it home, or at least to get the flesh to well up correctly from the bundle of railroad spikes in my left eye.

I'm pretty good at describing it in words, though.

Like someone's trying to shove a softball into my eyesocket with a printing press.

Like being punched in the face by a wrecking ball.

I usually feel it's important to give the implied scale of how big a deal it is.

Being a guy with migraines, though, I'm in the minority and told to buckle down. Relpax is my friend.

I am another person who rarely suffers auras, but the third picture is very similar to what I get when I do.

Try resizing the first picture in photoshop or some other similar program.

I wasn't aware that migraine art existed.

Wow, you know the art is good when you start feeling nauseous just looking at it! The third down is exactly what I get.

The book "Migraine" by Oliver Sacks has some great aura art too, just FYI.

I am so glad to see this pictures... Because often, when I try to describe my ophtalmic migraines to people, it's hard for them to understand what I mean by the 'aura' and the partial blindness.

I join this community just recently, and I am glad to feel less isolated knowing other people who, like me, suffer from those migraines.

Thank you so much for posting these pictures, they are so well-done, It's like when I having them just looking at them.

jude :)

I don't usually do migraine art, but the other day the drugs and the headache made me a bit loopy so I pulled out my scribblers and did this in my sketchbook:

The thought hadn't even crossed my mind before - Maybe I will. But with a better scan or photo or whatever. :)

That is very cool! I really like that. Ditto on the icon.

My dad has trigeminal neuralgia which is basically like 24/7 of someone sticking a knife into your head. When it was really bad, he used to do migraine art and he drew a picture of himself screaming with this demon his head scraping his eyes out. It was really, really powerful because my dad is this very mellow, reserved, conservative guy and it all just like exploded.

But that is very cool.

I think that'd be a pretty good image - you wouldn't happen to have that laying about anywhere would you? You should post it here. :)

Wow, it was like six years ago when I was a senior in high school... I have no idea where that might be right now, but if I do come across it at home some time, I will definitely try and post it!

interesting depictions. mine are closest to the second one, except for it's just foggy, as if my glasses were smugged.
