Sorry if it is an off-topic, but I really need your thoughs on the subject.

The girls I invite to my home for a night seem to be suspiciously absent-minded.

They forget their tooth-brushes, electric hair-driers, combs, let alone hair-pins and head-bands. I can already open my own second-hand accessories store :-)

But for the last two weeks two girls forgot their pants in my washroom, brown and creamy (how can one FORGET the pants???); and the third one forgot her portable printer (!!!) -- like, she came in to type and print out a chapter for her university thesis on my notebook, and sex was just extra.

When I called her today's morning offering to return the device, she mumbled something like "Well, don't bother, I gonna drop in your home one more time anyway..."

So guys, I'm trying to understand what.

It may be quite natural to forget a pin, or a tooth brash, or even a hair dryer or a printer after a hot sex session. However, is it natural for a girl to forget the pants in the home of a guy she met six hours ago?

Didn't that mean these girls had left their belongings in my home deliberately; sort of, like some animals "mark" their territory? Or what -- to have an excuse to appear at my doorstep any time that came into their minds?

Meeting Friends? [11 Feb 2007|05:56pm]

winkaway
I'm American but I've lived in the UK for over a year now, and I'm desperate to make some friends! I've met a few people here, but most of them have left after a few months. Unlike them, I'm here permanently. I have no idea how to make friends in this country. It's hard because sometimes I really feel like an outsider. I really want to meet some people who I relate to, but am finding it difficult. I have a job and work 45 hours a week, and am married. Any advice?

It's my 9th visit to London and the first I spent in bed with temperature hoovering around 39C.

But, anyway, to have a flu in London is a way more romantic than suffering the same fever somewhere in the midst of Etobicoke. Treating myself with the elephant's doses of paracetamol (good-bye, liver!)and [info]giliotina's text messages.

And my next trip to England will be a jubilee's!

So there's no surprise I feel myself at home in this small street.

And it's not a coincidence that this street has such a "talking" name for me!

Ladies and gentlemen,

Is it possible to book a hotel in the UK by some other way but entering one's credit card details in the web-sites like booking.com? I am afraid of disclosing my Visa card number, etc.

Thanks for advice.

I'm looking for a nice seasonal summer job in London.
Only I'm not sure what's the best way of finding a suitable one.
I find it a bit too impersonal to select jobs out of websites however.

So if anyone here knows a person in London looking for a seasonal employee for summer 2007 ,please let me know .

Thanks !

Film Schools in London [05 Oct 2006|12:37pm]

assetic
So by either January or September 2007 I'll be moving to London, England from Toronto, Ontario Canada.

Needless to say I'm slightly nervous, but very excited about the move. But I have many questions.
First off I'm thinking of going to the New York Film School campus in London. Does anyone know of any other possible film schools in London that may have more to offer?

They also have housing offered through NYFS, but I'm almost thinking I may get a better deal looking elsewhere. Any suggestions on where to look?

And lastly, I suppose I'll be getting a student visa to come to school there. I'm eligable to work with a student visa correct? How long?

I know I still have alot of hunting, and questions to figure out (Is there a monthly underground pass?), but I would love all the help you lovely londoners may be able to offer. It is truely my favorite city in the world, and that's why I want to move there. Last time I had visited it was the best time of my life.

Thanks in advance,

Tessa

Living in London [09 May 2006|11:04am]

I'll be moving to London from Singapore and is kind of concern about budget living there. I am wondering whether is 16k pounds enough to live simply in London and yet gives me some allowance to travel around Europe as well.

Greatly appreciate any thoughts. Thanks!

I’m an American student who’s just been accepted to the LSE for this fall, and the deadline to apply for university accommodations is coming up soon. I apologize for this posting—I realize these questions are likely quite irritating to locals—but I know nearly nothing about the different neighborhoods/districts of London, and I’m hoping to make at least a somewhat-educated decision about which halls to apply to.

I’ve narrowed the possibilities down to a few LSE halls and a few ULondon intercollegiate halls. Below I’ve included the addresses and descriptions from the LSE website. I hope to live in an area with a younger, hipper population (a large student population is good, as is a large LGBT population). Lots of clubs and bars, trendy shops, cafes, museums, parks, perhaps, but also access to mundane things like grocery stores and whatever England’s equivalent to America’s Targer or Meijer might be. For comparison, if you’ve been to Chicago (where I’m living now), I like the Boystown area off the Belmont stop on the Red Line. I don't mind walking a mile or so to get to the school, so distance from the LSE isn't a top consideration.

Any comments you can offer on these neighborhoods, or even better, advice on residences from LSE or UL students who might be reading, is much appreciated.

1) Passfield Hall
1-7 Endsleigh Place WC1H 0PW
The hall is situated one mile from the LSE, just south of Euston station, in a quiet area, just a 20 minute walk from School.

2) Hughes-Parry/Commonwealth Hall/Canterbury Hall
Cartwright Gardens WC1H 9EF

3) Connaught Hall
Connaught Hall is situated within easy walking distance of the LSE, in the University precinct.
Tavistock Square WC1H 9EX
(Looking at the maps, I realize that these first three I’ve listed aren’t particularly far from one another. If they’re close enough that the neighborhoods would be essentially the same, feel free to scorn me and reply with “stupid American.”)

4) Carr-Saunders
The hall is situated near Telecom Tower just off Tottenham Court Road, approximately a 25 minute walk from the School.
18-24 Fitzroy Street W1T 4BN

5) High Holborn
The residence is situated within 10 minutes walking distance of the School in the heart of London's Theatre land, close to Covent Garden, Oxford Street, Leicester Square and Soho.
178 High Holborn WC1V 7AA

6) Bankside
This is the only residence that I’m considering that’s on the south side of the river. Someone had mentioned something to me in passing about that being undesirable… thoughts?
Bankside House is situated within a 25 minute walk of the School on the South Bank of the Thames near to the new Globe Theatre and behind the new Tate Modern art gallery.
24, Sumner Street SE1 9JA

7) Northumberland
Northumberland House is situated within a 10 minute walk of the LSE on Northumberland Avenue, in sight of Trafalgar Square

Again, I apologize if this is an obnoxious post, or if I’ve been insensitive or blatantly ignorant in some way. I’m quite excited to be coming to London, but also terrified because I’m clueless about the city and its culture and how things work in general. I expect some things will be similar, and some things will confuse the hell out of me. And, if anyone has questions similar to mine about Chicago or Minneapolis/St. Paul, I’d be happy to answer them in return.

Hello all! In December of this year I will be launching an assault on the world (well Europe actually, but from down here it pretty much looks like the world) and I’m seeking any scraps of advice or recommendation that all you lovely northern hemisphere kids have to offer.
I’ll be in London between the 2nd of December and the 9th and then in Glasgow from the 9th to the 16th or thereabout before moving onto the continent.
While I’m there I’d like to do two things
1) avoid the usual tourist traps
2) Take in some concerts, club nights and the like
So, this is where you all come in. I’m an indie, gothish, fashionista type and would love to know if there is anything worthwhile on while I’m over there. And also where is worthwhile visiting in terms of shopping, clubbing and all those other fun and exciting things that a naïve young thing from the worlds largest (and possibly lamest) island would enjoy getting up to.
Also if anyone can recommend cheap and salmonella free places to eat, that would be fab (I’m a student and my only source of income comes from the occasional modeling stint.
BUT above and beyond some advice via eljay, what I am really REALLY looking for are people who would be happy to play tour guide.
While I can’t offer any money, I’d be more than happy to shout people coffee/lunch/bus fairs as they show me the more interesting and less visited sights of their various (well ok, two) fair cities. Aside from a free lunch all I can really offer you is the pleasure of my company, and the offer of the same if ever you decide to journey down under.
Thanks for your time/ help/ possible friendship!
