    Invitation to join 93thelemites
    93 all,

Apparently, every member of ljoto has been removed from the thelemites community. I am personally saddened by this. I have started a new community open to all who are interested in Thelema in general. I think there's value in Thelemites having a place to discuss general Thelemic topics no matter what Order they do or do not belong to. I also think there's value in a community where non-initiates can meet members of our Order as this may be an avenue for them to come into contact with us for the first time. In any event, if you are interested, here is the url:

    Nowhere to Go?
Last Friday morning a member of the USGL Electoral College resigned his position very vocally via posting to a few USGL e-lists. The initial responses were varied; some were bothered by what the brother said, some were bothered by the means which the brother employed to lodge his dissent; some posted in support of the brother’s position; and some wanted to have the questions raised by the quitting brother answered.

The debate on these issues was summarily cut off when the e-list was deleted. No one debates the “right” of the Order to remove the list; it is well within their purview to sanction, moderate, create, and delete discussion forums. But the question we should ask is was it smart to remove this e-list?

USGL-Lbs-oto-usa was created at the end of 1999 to give a forum for local body officers, past officers, USGL officers, chartered initiators, etc. a sanctioned place to discuss Order issues outside the public sphere. It also was a general file repository for Order documents that were generally needed by most MoE bodies that, again, did not need to be public. During its lifespan, the e-list received over 10,700 messages: a clear indication that it had a need and was used. Averaged over its 5.5 year duration, that is almost 2000 annually. Many of the issues discussed were trivial or even a complete waste of time. Nevertheless many important issues were discussed on the list and the broad inclusion of all local body officers and members allowed the broad dissemination of information in a non-public forum. This is no longer possible.

Leaving Liber XV Intact: The God within the Shrine
I think the formula is clear with a capital P - so to speak.

Here is a take on the Gnostic Mass from another vantage: http://aishmlchmh.blogspot.com/2006/06/god-within-shrine-by-brother-aish_07.html

The God within the Shrine by Brother AISh MLChMH (In case you haven't noticed he is no longer on lj, but I have syndicated his blog here.)

'Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.'

'“It may be as a relief to some to learn that there is no such person as Aleister Crowley. He is probably a sun-myth.” – Equinox I(10).'

'“Why aren’t there female Saints?” “Why does the Priestess have to disrobe and the Priest gets to keep all his clothing on?” “Why isn’t the Yoni or same-sex coupling more emphasized?”, etc. Having attended and participated in the performances of Liber XV for a handful of years, I have become more than a little acquainted with many of these and similar questions in respect to the “central ceremony of” the O.T.O.’s “public and private celebration”. It is not my concern to address whether these questions are of merit or no. Rather, I’m interested in presenting a rationale – one that is surprisingly simple and very inconspicuous- on why it makes a great deal of sense to leave Liber XV unchanged and fundamentally intact.'

    First condition of Advancement
"The Magical Diary is the First condition of Advancement." extract from a letter written by Aleister Crowley to Roy Leffingwell.

Aleister Crowley and the practice of the Magical Diary, edited by James Wasserman with a foreword by J. Daniel Gunther is available from Weiser Books.

This new and expanded edition includes John St. John and A Master of the Temple from The Equinox.

This is an excellent new edition and includes excerpts from several other works and the above quoted letter (in addition to The Equinox ) by Crowley relating to the Magical Diary. The book is now 200 pages and even has a Culinary Glossary of John St. John for the food mavens!

I found J. Daniel Gunther's foreword incredibly insightful and inspiring.

"Now this Book must be a holy Book, not a scribbling-book in which you ot down every piece of rubbish that comes into your head." - Book IV, Part 2, Magick

PS I understand James Wasserman's The Mystery Traditions: Secret Symbols and Sacred Art is already in it's second printing. This is a superb follow-up to Art and Symbols of the Occult.

    Would you like a comment?

A complete edition of all of Crowley’s commentaries, intended for scholars and magickal students, is in preparations, and will be issued a few years hence by New Falcon Publications.“
-- Crowley, Aleister. The Law is for All: The Authorized Popular Commentary to the Book of the Law (edited by Louis Wilkinson and Hymenaeous Beta). p11

Can anyone explain why this has not occured in the past 6-8 years (I have the second edition of the aforementioned book, printed in 1998, I assume that the 1996 first printing had the same Foreword).  Admittedly ”few“ means ”more than two,“ but it implies less than a decade.  Why has this important book been allowed to die and whither along with the strategic goals that should have been produced a year ago?

I have to ask, what is more important to the OTO than the promulgation of the Law of Thelema?  How can anyone say that the publication of the Holy Books & their Commentaries is not the most basic element of that promulgation?

    First Knights Templar are discovered

    April 10, 2006

LONDON: The first bodies of the Knights Templar, the mysterious religious order at the heart of The Da Vinci Code, have been found by archaeologists near the River Jordan in northern Israel.

British historian Tom Asbridge yesterday hailed the find as the first provable example of actual Knights Templar.

The remains were found beneath the ruined walls of Jacob's Ford, an overthrown

castle dating back to the Crusades, which had been lost for centuries.

They can be dated to the exact day -- August 29, 1179 -- that they were killed by Saladin, the feared Muslim leader who captured the fortress.

"Never before has it been possible to trace their remains to such an exact time in history,' Mr Asbridge said. "This discovery is the equivalent of the Holy Grail to archaeologists and historians. It is unparalleled."

    Workload and Immunity
Every reality TV show has one thing in common: immunity. It may not be called that sometimes, but every show has a little medalion or key or some such thing that grants its owner a guaranteed spot in the next round. You can't vote people off if they have immunity. You can't send them home. They're immune, because they played the immunity game the hardest and won it.

During one local celebration of the Third Day of the Writing of The Book of the Law, I had a small chat with (or rather, received a small lecture from) an SGIG. My guess is that it was in response to some things I had been trying to discuss during a First Day party, which had a few people wriled. The SGIG explained that the leaders are constantly doing work, that there's too much work to be done. They're writing books and keeping books in print (don't forget that the O.T.O. has published more of its prophet's work in 100 years than the early Christians did). They're jetsetting around the globe establishing Grand Lodges. They're doing paper work. The SGIG was extremely annoyed at the suggestion that the O.T.O. leadership could be or should be doing more. The O.T.O. is, contrary to what some critics say, progressing at a phenomenal rate. The fact that the O.T.O. looks so different now from what it looked like 10 or 20 years ago is proof. We have more local bodies, for example. The leaders are working so hard that no critique can really be made of them. The O.T.O. is a volunteer organization, so people need to stop discussing problems and start pitching in.

Do you think this is a reasonable take on the situation? Are the O.T.O.'s glaring failures and shortcomings overshadowed by the sheer elbow-grease of the leadership? Do filing paperwork and doing side projects merit immunity?

Thelema Coast to Coast Celebrates the Thelemic Holy Days
Thelema Coast to Coast Celebrates the Thelemic Holy Days with Broadcasts of Readings of the Book of the Law.

On each of the Thelemic Holy Days, Thelema Coast to Coast will be releasing a special podcast that is a recording of each chapter of the Book of the Law. Each Chapter will be read in a different way by a different group promoting a diversity of interpretation and helping to spread various ideas about the Law of Thelema.

The first chapter is a rendition released in 1993 by N.O.T. - Nu Ordo Templi. This is a recording produced by Steven Ashe, read by Carolyn Hucker, and released by the late Ron Bonds, the former owner of Illuminet Press.

The second chapter is a recording produced last month by Jon Sewell, director and producer of the Rite of Venus Rock Opera. John is assisted by other thelemites from the Seattle area for a group. Before the chapter presentation, Jon spends a few minutes giving his thought about his recording.

The third chapter is none other than the famous recording made by Frater Hrumachis and Kalil Khan. This recording is a magnificent rendition with a myriad of musical layers coupled with a masterful rendition of the chapter. Before the recording both Frater Hrumachis and Kalil Khan discuss the origin of the recording and the musical production. It truly is not a rendition to miss. A full CD version of the recording can be purchased at http://www.robbirobb.com.

Each podcast recording will be released on the day of the chapter. So go to http://www.thelemacoasttocoast.com/ or setup your iTunes or news reader to pull in the podcast via RSS. The RSS feed URL is http://www.thelemacoasttocoast.com/rss2.xml

The podcast thanks all the artists for their contributions and looks forward to another year of quality programming that explores Thelema, its culture, and the occult. Thelema Coast to Coast: Occultism without Apologies.

Everyone reading this has permission to cross post this notice to all mailing or elists. In fact, please take this notice and put it on all your local elists for you local bodies, occult/pagan communities, etc. These three podcasts are nothing but the chapters and I am sure your local body members would love to listen!

Pagan Soldiers in need of assistance
I knew some would be interested in this, being that we have OTO Thelemites in the services and fighting overseas.

Our people fighting oversees need our help. They are not allowed to put pentacles on their tombstones when they give their lives in combat. Fox News is having a survey, you can write them and tell them what you think about this. KNOW that the evangelical extremeists will have their say...so we should help our religious cousins here and pipe in. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,190322,00.html

Also, please read http://www.circlesanctuary.org/liberty/veteranpentacle/ .This organization is trying to change the way that these soldiers are treated and is proposing headstones and markers for them.
