Your friendly friend-of monitor

Yet another good idea from [info]firinel: here's a tool which takes a snapshot of your LJ "friends of" list the first day you use it, and then on every subsequent day it shows you how it's changed. So you get a list of who's friended and unfriended you recently.

Who's friended you today?

Enter your LiveJournal name:

script by marnanel

If you'd like to link to joule yourself, here's the HTML to add to your journal or your userinfo page:

<form method="get" action="http://marnanel.org/joule"><table border color="#007700" bgcolor="#E0FEE0"><tr><td align="center"><font color="#007700">Who's friended you today?<br><br><b>Enter your LiveJournal name:</b> <input maxlength="15" size="15" type="text" name="user"> <input value=" OK " type="submit"><br><br><small>script by <a href="http://marnanel.org">marnanel</a> </small></font></td></tr> </table></form>

Obviously, you need to keep coming back to this over a few days to make it useful. Here's an example of what it looks like when it's been run over several days.

Feedback, ideas, criticism, questions, whatever-- it's all welcome: feel free to comment to this post. Thanks to [info]firinel whose idea it was, [info]pacx who thought of the title of this post, and everyone who's found it useful so far :)

And if you haven't seen it yet, check out this script's big sister, Kelvin.

Thanks, ever so much... I've been wanting somethig like this, and since I have a Mac, it's a little harder to find a client that supports it. ;)

Thank you so much for this tool! I will be able to go friends only without a problem and without having to lug my favorite sema-client along to every computer I go to:P

How large a history file does this program keep? I've been using it on a near daily basis for at least two months (as one can see by the history when you run my name), but I kinda thought I'd been using it since August. :o

The history goes back indefinitely at the moment. I only released the program right at the end of August, though, and the history you see only starts on the second day you ran it (because before then there are no differences to show), so presumably 2nd September 2002 was the second day you ran the script.

your script is just GREAT! I love it! and I know lots of users love it too.

would it be possible to mark deleted LJs different from unfriending LJs? maybe in a similar way like the strike-through feauture on user info pages?

Okay, so this has been around for a good long while, but I just discovered it in a friend's user info today and started playing with it, and I wanted to say thanks. It's an extremely neat tool and I'm having a lot of fun with it.

Don't get me wrong, it looks really cool, I just don't see the WHY behind it....

Thanks so much [info]marnanel. :)

hi - I love your handy friend-of monitor - I also want to report an odd glitch which just happened. I'm wondering what could have caused it. I typed my LJ name in and it showed that EVERYONE in my friend-of list had unfriended me at once. Erm. Of course, they all show up as having me friended on my info page. *whew* But I'm hoping this will right itself. Also, it doesn't show the person who most recently added me. It's just very strange. Thanks for any help!

See if it fixes itself tomorrow. Sometimes LJ returns that someone has no friends for no apparent reason. If it's still showing nothing tomorrow, let me know! Thanks.

Well, we don't know what we got till it's gone huh? The site is down, my friends list is in chaos about it. Is it gone forever, just down for the count, coming back anytime soon?

Thanks so much for the service. If it is gone, it WAS great while it lasted anyways!
