People you ban are now hidden from your friend-of list. We can also use the aggregate data (who is banned most often) to quickly find and suspend accounts which are used solely for harassment.

BTW, currently there's no easy way to ban somebody unless they leave a comment on an entry of yours. There will be. For now, you have to use the admin console:

http://www.livejournal.com/admin/console/

In the box there, you type:

ban_set whoever

Where whoever is the person you want to ban. You can do multiple lines, if you want:

ban_set somebody
ban_set somebody_else

I've been against friend-of editing, but I suppose this particular change isn't too harmful. I think it would be a bad idea to allow people to vet their "friends of" list without actually banning people, as inevitably many people would simply edit it to match their friends list. Sure, people can do that starting now, but banning hopefully carries a bit more weight that might make the journal control-freaks think more carefully. (Reply to this)(Thread)(Expand)

I'm finding that not only are the serial adders still showing up on my client but I am still showing up on their friends page. Did I miss understand something? I am so hoping to be able to disassociate myself from certain people that use nasty language, even in the names that they choose to use. Are there any plans in the works for this?
