AU. This story is a sequel to “Grima” by Beryll, and takes place in a Fourth-Age Middle Earth where the Battle of the Hornburg was LOST, and Saruman briefly took over Rohan. See Author’s Notes for further details.
Summary:
After a visit to Gondor and Dol Amroth, Eomer King returns to Rohan, and finds that a number of irritating problems await his attention – not least of them Grima Wormtongue.

Since we are dealing with a post-liberation Rohan, I have used the following assumptions from Beryll’s tale –
1 No visit by Gandalf and Co. to Rohan. Theoden was liberated from his thraldom to Wormtongue by the shock of Theodred’s death.
2 Wormtongue has been obsessed with Eomer (not his sister), and for this reason, begged his life from a victorious Saruman; thereafter keeping Eomer imprisoned during his brief tenure as Regent of Rohan.
3 When the heroes of the Ring War liberated Rohan, Grima fled, not back to Saruman (who had been defeated as one of Mordor’s allies), but southwards. He foolishly confessed his love to both Eomer and Eowyn before doing so. However he was recaptured on the border, and taken into service by Eomer as a form of revenge.
In addition to these assumptions, which are inherent in Beryll’s tale, I have further assumed –
a) that Eowyn, having been married in name only to Grima during the Regency, later met and fell in love with Faramir Prince of Ithilien;
b) that Gimli Son of Gloin was present at the Siege of the Hornburg, when the last of Saruman’s Uruk-hai garrison was defeated;
c) that, in recognition of Gimli’s help, Eomer ceded to him the Caves of Aglarond;
d) that Erkenbrand of Westfold was part of a “resistance force” which joined the Army of the West during the Siege of the Hornburg

Firstly, let me state what this post is NOT:
a) An attack on nverland
b) An apology
c) The consensual view of the LoM staff - these are my own thoughts only. (and for those who don't know me, I am currently not listed in the LoM staff page for privacy matters but I have been working there since Marie, the LoM founder, put the LoM under the care of the current staff).
Also, I am not involved in RPS archiving (I may have solved a coding problem now and then for my colleagues but before today I didn't even know the password to the RPS account). This to say that I'm not trying to cover my ass. And I'm also not trying to cover anyone else's ass - that goes against the grain of me, but I don't expect people who don't know me to accept that so please read on and judge for yourselves.
Here's what I have to say regarding this incident:
1. RSS feeds syndicated in LJ are not personal accounts; thus if you leave a comment there no one will receive a notification. I thought that this was fairly obvious to everyone (and I'm not being sarcastic, no matter how deserved that would be). If you have to communicate with us urgently, an email to the LoM (libraryofmoria@gmail.com or libraryofmoriarps@gmail.com) is still the best way to go about it or in alternative, contact the archivists and community mods who are plainly listed at the site and at the community profile.
2. nverland has every right to be upset over not being acknowledged as the author or co-author of her works and it's certainly not our policy to sabotage our authors - in fact, over the years we have done everything we could to please them. However, by the time we started receiving her messages, the stories had already been corrected and included both her and Alex as authors - we had detected our own mistake and fixed it two hours before seeing her messages. For people who don't know how RSS feeds work, however, here's a note - the corrections to the posts (in this case fic entries) don't automatically show in the feed. In fact, nverland's stories have all been deleted and are still listed in the feed as I write this. We didn't invent RSS feeds and we do not have any power over the way they work or the frequency with which LJ updates them. In light of this, we ask for the authors' and readers' understanding - please check the site itself before biting our heads off - it's likely that we have already corrected the mistakes by the time you get there.
3. Sarcasm. It's not as clever as people think and it's generally considered bad form unless you are teenager, at which time it's just considered annoying. We humbly (and again, I'm not being ironic) ask people to let us know where we've failed. But do so in an adequate way, for both our sakes. Email us and we'll fix whatever it is and apologise for the mistake AS WE HAVE ALWAYS DONE.
4. The LoM staff gives top priority to removal requests - we have done so at least since I am in this team - almost three years now. Admittedly, we 'take forever' to archive fics, to quote nverland but we understand that when someone asks for removal they have their own reasons, often serious, personal reasons such as being exposed in RL and we do the removal normally in the same day. nverland posted a comment to an entry in the RSS feed at 4.03PM (UTC), saying "please remove this from your archive. Now" (http://syndicated.livejournal.com/the_lom_updates/19428.html). At 04:58 pm (UTC) all of her stories had been removed from both the old and the new archive.
5. We're always sad to see an author go, especially when, as in this case, there are angry feelings toward us (a first for me as archivist in the LoM) and when I feel that this could have been avoided if a) we were perfect and we admittedly are not - I often have to edit the stories I post and the person who was doing the job today was doing it for the first time AND still managed to correct the error by herself - just not the RSS feed which is beyond her power; and b) nverland had checked the real archive or at least tried to contact us by email before firing off her messages.
6. I don't like online wanking. Period. This means that a) I'm not trying to pick a fight with nverland, b) I'm not really interested in dialogging with people who shoot before asking so I won't be replying to whatever she posts. Harsh, autarcic but true. Also, if things get nasty, which I sincerely hope they don't, please, please people, don't take my side - fandom wars bore me, annoy me, are stupid and pointless.
OH, and a last note for those who have forgotten it - WE ARE ALL VOLUNTEERS HERE. You, dear authors are note paying for a service. We try our best to serve you because if it weren't for you, there would be no archive. BUT! BUT!!! We may not be perfect but are not punching bags. Please be gracious with us as we always try to be with you. Fandom is such a nicer place that way.
A final note to my fellow archivists... I know the rule for us has been to just tell the costumer they are right. As it happens, the LoM is not a business and if someone behaves in this way to us and we feel the need to apologise, then I do not want to be a part of the LoM anymore. If my reply disagrees with you, please let me know and I'll pack my bags. It has been a pleasure to work with you - I have all the consideration for you.

It's nice to see the LOM Updates, and gives us all a chance to see things we may have missed. HOWEVER when the maintainers feel the need to screw with authors and give limited credit to co-writen pieces, they do nothing but piss off the authors. I've sent an email to the submissions address over this, but I'm posting it here also, since they take forever, if they do respond. Either fix YOUR mistakes or remove anything that has my name on it.

Chapter 4: The Míthril Ring - Boromir and Legolas accept Lord Celeborn's quest to rally the Mirkwood army, though the Elf torments himself over his mortality and more so over his feelings of regret for saving Boromir's life. The Captain of Gondor worries for his friend...and is confused by the unusual gift which Galadriel gives him.
Chapter 5: Into Mirkwood - Legolas and Boromir enter Mirkwood at nightfall, and the Elf feels the pains of mortality beginning to affect him. Unknown to them, the greatest danger of Dol Guldur has taken on a new form, one to which Legolas falls prey, leaving Boromir alone in a forest filled with hungry evil...
Chapter 6: The Table of Blood - Legolas faces torture at the hands his captors as Boromir plans a dangerous rescue mission that could cost him his life...and the life of the one whom he loves.
Chapter 7: Escape from Dol Guldur - Boromir and Legolas are at last reunited, and together they risk their lives to free the elven prisoners trapped in the fortress of Dol Guldur.

Hello all and happy Easter to all!
The LoM staff has decided to automate the archive for a while now and we have finally started the process. This decision aims at facilitating the archiving and the consultation of the archive. The old site will ALWAYS be available, but we will not updated it any longer. All the new fics will be at the new LoM. By automating the archive we mean just that. The submissions will still be made to us through the libraryofmoria@gmail.com address. However, anyone can register as a reader and add comments to the fics, build your list of favorites, etc. People already introduced as authors - PLEASE contact us before registering to avoid duplication of IDs.
Note for authors: italics, bold and the likes are now possible in the text body. We are formatting the older fics for you, but please feel free to send in the new files with tags, if you have them in that way.
If you detect something that is not correct in one of your old fics, please let us know and we'll gladly correct it. Much of the formatting was done automatically and some errors may have ensued. In other cases, well... we are all human and therefore prone to error. ;)
