Visiting Student for Fall 2007 [May. 28th, 2007|04:27 pm]

dogmatickat
Hi!
I have a few questions about lc law school because I am going to be a visiting student for my third year from University of Hawaii at Manoa. I am really looking forward to going, but am very worried because I dont know anything about what professors to look out for and how the grading system works. I know that every law school has different ways of grading. Can anyone help me out? Are there any professors that are extremely difficult graders? Are study groups already created and will it be hard to find someone to study with? Overall how is the social dynamic?

I'm sorry for all of the questions, but thank you to anyone who responds!

I don't remember the details at all [Mar. 25th, 2007|11:44 pm]

theotherjay
I'm working on my application for the June Bar exam. The application packet asks for the names and addresses of your past five employers, and asks you to send them Character and Fitness Statements to fill out. Here's my problem: I don't remember. Before I went to law school, I worked as:

•  a parking lot attendant, for one week - I was fired for no explained reason.

• a canvasser for a political campaign that no longer exists. Again, I don't remember my supervisor's name, though I do know that he is no longer with the Party.

• a coffee shop in Michigan, that closed years ago. Again, no memory of my supervisor's name - this was eight years ago.

• Also, I don't remember the date of every speeding ticket I ever got (only two, but still).

What do I do? I don't think you're supposed to leave anything off Bar applications - more than anything, they look for complete honesty - but I can't provide enough information to send out forms, either. Has anyone had any comparable experiences?

Article search [Feb. 26th, 2007|11:55 pm]

I'm trying to track down an article I read - I think last semester, I think in Tom Lininger's Ethics in Criminal Law class. It was written by a prison inmate with experience as a jailhouse lawyer, about the state of habeas corpus law and its deleterious effects on prisoners' rights. I need this article for my A paper, and I can't find it in my papers anymore. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about, and where I might find this piece? Thank you...

Prospective Student here.... [Mar. 27th, 2006|12:36 pm]

little_ph0enix
I'm so glad to have stumbled across this community. I'm considering attending L&C for the Environmental and Natural Resources Law program. However, I'm a bit hesitant, and I'm hoping you all can help calm my fears and/or give me some advice.

I received a Master of Public Affairs from Indiana University-Bloomington, specializing in Environmental Policy, in 2003. While I was in school there, I also enrolled in their JD program. After about 1.5 semesters I dropped out because I just couldn't handle it. Being in a Masters program and a JD program was way too overwhelming to me, and almost all of the law classes were over my head.

So, even though Environmental Law is something I'd really love getting into, I feel as if I've psyched myself out about going to law school. I am at a very different point in my life and I am very interested in going back to school for something, whether it's a law degree, a teaching degree, or something else.

I plan on moving to Portland within the next year, or whenever money and resources allow it (I currently reside in Kansas City, Missouri). Could you all please give me some indication of your experience with L&C? Is there a large dropout rate? Another question I have is, why do they call it a "certificate" program? Is it not a "true" JD program?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can offer.

Lewis and Clark Lawschool IP program [Mar. 1st, 2006|05:03 pm]

barrackar
I will be applying to law schools for Fall 2007 and had a question about the intellectual property program at Lewis and Clark.

I have received a few brochures from the school which identify this as a particular program which LC speciallizes in but I wanted to hear what the students thought about the program.
In particular:

Is the program distinct from the other programs at the school?
Is it unique compared to other schools?
Would you recommend the program?

( Cross-posted to [info]damnportlanders and [info]reedalumn. )

My roommate is moving to England at the beginning of next year, and I need to find someone to live with by then. I'll keep looking more vigorously as the date draws nearer, but it's good to get started early. The room will be available in early to mid January, and some flexibility is possible.

Maybe it's because I'm older than the average law student to begin with, but seriously, is it just me, or do the 1Ls look like teenagers?

Evidence with Lansing? [Aug. 28th, 2005|09:31 pm]

[mood | confused]

I'm on the waiting list for the 3-credit Evidence with Miller, but if I get in, and if I get into Alt. Disp. Res., which is also 3 credits, I'll only have 13 credits. Evidence with Lansing is 4 credits and it's not closed. Should I just take that instead? Is Lansing good? Is there any strong reason to prefer the 3-credit class over the 4-credit class?

Waiting Lists [Aug. 25th, 2005|01:46 pm]

gailg
I'm on waiting lists for two classes. Did any of you 3Ls had to deal with waiting lists last year? How did it go?

Did you get into the class?
How soon did you find out either way?
If you got in, how did you deal with the first few classes before you knew?
If you didn't get in, how did you deal with the first few classes of replacement classes?

also if anyone wants a newbee such as myself to be taken under there wing..........I'm so bored.

Skipping Class [Apr. 18th, 2005|09:14 pm]

[mood | guilty]
[music |"Don't Push It Down" by Original Soundtrack]

Is it better to just skip a class totally, or to come but leave halfway through?

I have never skipped a class (in law school, anyway), but on Wednesday, I am taking the opportunity to go to Bar luncheon about privacy in the digital age. I have Crim Pro (with Prof. Kroger) 10:30-12:00; the luncheon is at 12:00 and I'll be getting a ride with Prof. Loren, who is leaving around 11:20. So, if I go to class, I'd have to leave by 11:15. I always sit in the front row even though we can sit wherever we want. I could sit in the back and sneak out, but I might be conspicuous by my absence from the front row.

I don't feel like creating an actual poll, so I'll just ask:

Should I...
  • Just skip and not worry about it?

  • Go for the first half, sit in the back, and sneak out the back?

  • Go for the first half, sit in the front row on the end (I usually sit in the middle), and attempt to sneak out the front?

  • Go to class for the full period and skip the luncheon?

  • Ask Prof. Kroger what he thinks?
