I admit to being a bad moderator here, and I apologize for the long delay between challenges.
For your next challenge, I offer two quotations, ganked from
_minxy_, who is awesome. Your assignment, should you choose to accept it, is to write fic or meta or make art, somehow inspired by either or both of these quotations below.
Quote 1: "We live in the dark, we do what we can, the rest is the madness of art." -Henry James, The Middle Years
Quote 2: "In war, there are no unwounded soldiers." - Jose Narosky
Challenge responses are due by June 30. Have fun!

No, not a fic -- sorry -- but breaking ostrich news:

Because I am silly, I'm using Vehemently's suggestion from the prompts post (new suggestions always welcome!), and therefore the new challenge is:
(drum roll, please)
Chuck Norris
Because we're terribly flexible here at Casa de Ostrich, any and all uses of Chuck, from the virtual to the metaphysical will be allowed, although we request that Chuck not be an actual character in your story. (On the other hand, Walker Texas Ranger crossovers? Comedy gold. I'm just saying.)
Deadline is April 5. Enjoy!

Because clearly I am not a master of promptology, I throw myself on the brilliance of this community.
Prompts, people! Please to submit prompts! And then your wonky moderators will select from the suggestions for future challenges!
So, whatever floats your boat: quotes or theories or tv episode titles or animal names or whatever! Let's have prompts! Startle your fellow community-members with your genius!

The new challenge is up, and it is hedgehogs. And while, yes, my brain thought of 'cute little Brit critters' (note 1) first, there is also: data mining tools, Black & Decker Power Tools, and dino hedgehogs and anti-submarine weapons and pangolins. (Which took me *way* too long to find, considering.) Oh, yeah, and there is Sonic, too.
Note 1:
siljamus was kind enough to remind me that Erinaceus europaneous lives in places other than than the British Isles.
Note 1:
This challenge will run until February 14, for obvious reasons.
The challenge is hedgehog. Again: metaphorical, actual, or magical space-traveling hedgehogs that shoot rainbows out their asses. Anything you like!
Have fun! Spread the word! Write fic! Make icons! All that stuff!

Someone want to do a BSG or SG1/SGA version?

"Mulder. What do you think came first, the chicken, or the egg?" Scully was sitting cross-legged on the sofa, working the Sunday New York Times Crossword puzzle. She was whizzing through it, filling in the blanks at a breath-taking clip, and still had the brain power left to ponder one of philosophy's classic causality dilemmas. He shook off the haze of lust that close proximity to this woman put him in and put on his thinking cap.
