[info]betnoir: SoCal Browncoat Presence at Gallifrey One Convention

Heyo!

I've been invited to do several Firefly/Jossverse panels for the local Dr. Who convention, Gallifrey One on Feb. 15-17 at the LAX Marriott (con schedule here).

There will also be a Southern California Browncoat meetup on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 5:30 pm, with possible dinner plans to be determined.

And if THAT wasn't enough, there will ALSO be a SoCal Browncoat fantable on the Saturday and Sunday.

So if you are free that holiday weekend, stop on by and say hi! Look for the short mouthy chick in the Inara costume with CherryBombRed highlights in her hair!

[info]betnoir: LosCon Firefly panel report

I am extremely pleased to report that, with no mention in the pocket program, we
got about 30 people attending the Firefly panel at LosCon this year,

In what amounted to a conference room designed to seat about 12.

I would first off like to thank [info]brianrubin, who majorly stepped up to the plate and manned
the SoCal Browncoat table, which seemed to get a great deal of traffic, as well
as for massively pimping the panel.

And to [info]dedoc, who represented for the 76th Battalion and hosted the panel with [info]brianrubin and myself. And for the shiny flyers!

Also to [info]danregal and Lynn of the SoCal Browncoats, who sent along with [info]brianrubin a terrific set-up so that we had an extremely shiny-lookin' fantable.

And finally, to any of you who made it to the panel, thanks so much!

I have been assured that there will be a better balance of media/lit/science at next year's LosCon. And I intend to hammer away at that because that is how we keep not only Firefly fandom vital, but SF fandom as a whole.

Yeah, OK, I didn't pull off an entire con, I admit that. :>

But with help, I made the point I set out to make -- that Firefly fandom isn't going away. And neither is media fandom.

Stay tuned for bigger, better and shinier things for next year!

[info]betnoir: Browncoat meetpoint at LosCon

For the first time since 2004, there will not be any official Firefly programming at LosCon. This greatly vexes me, as I have been one of the major proponents not just for Firefly programming, but for inclusion of SF media programming in general.

This year, however, the con programming chair thought otherwise.

But all is not lost! We have been offered meeting space on Saturday, Nov. 24 from 1-2 pm in order to hold an informal discussion about why Firefly fandom is still going strong. It will be hosted by myself, [info]dedoc (possibly known to some of you as Doc Jubal from the 76th Battalion) and my fellow So Cal Browncoat, [info]brianrubin

Please, if you are in the Southern California area over Thanksgiving weekend and are free on Saturday, come on by the LAX Marriott and join us! You must have a day pass for the con to attend the panel. More info can be found by following the LosCon link.

Help us show that not only do fans want Firefly, but media programming in general! Spread the word!

More developments as they develop.

[info]commodoremarie: 3rd Annual ComicCon Slashers' Dinner

Since I suspect this might be of interest to folks on the list, I thought I'd post the announcement here. Mods, if you think this is inappropriate or too off-topic, just let me know and I'll remove.

Where: San Diego Gaslamp Buca di Beppo
When: Friday, July 27th - 7pm
That's right, it is time again for me to pimp the ComicCon Slashers' Dinner. For the third year in a row we're holding a slasher shindig at the very-conveniently-located Bucca di Beppo in the Gaslamp district of San Diego. Friday night at 7pm we shall congregate to meet and eat with other like-minded folks. Dinner usually lingers, so if you can't make it right at the start, no worries. We also head over to the mall for desert and a few more hours of conversation afterwards.

Full details can be found here. RSVPing is very helpful (and easily done in advance here), and please tell your friends! We had around 30 folks last year, and we hope to make it an even bigger and better event this year!

[info]betnoir: Caveats and Addendums to Query Regarding LosCon Room Party

(sorry, need to clarify a couple of things...)

Caveat the First:

If you just want to come by and party in the evening with us, you do NOT need a membership necessarily. However, due to liability issues, we MUST insist that anybody who volunteers to help fly this crazy thing (before, during or after) have a valid membership.

Caveat the Second:

This is not an official SoCal Browncoat event. This is just me and my Partner-in-Crime wanting to have fun and spread the Browncoat love. Promotional materials for any Browncoat groups are certainly welcome and encouraged, but we are not representing one particular group.

Updates to follow just as soon as we figure out what the hell we are doing...

[info]betnoir: VERY PRELIMINARY query - Loscon room party

This is a VERY PRELIMINARY query to see if anyone is interested in putting together a "Companion Guild Tea Party" room party for LosCon this year. I and a Browncoat friend of mine from back east (he's with the 76th Battalion) will be spearheading this if we do it, but we cannot - and frankly, will not - do this without other Browncoat help.

The benefit is that it is great PR to spread the word about the SoCal Browncoats among the greater California fan community. For more general LosCon info, pls. go here.

The caveat is that it is over Thankgiving weekend, and I do realize many people have family obligations. Also keep in mind that you must have a membership for the con in order to attend the evening parties.

Again, this is EXTREMELY PRELIMINARY to see if there is even enough interest among the Socal Browncoats to pull the pin on this wacky grenade of an idea. I'm not asking for any firm committments at this stage - just a show of hands to see if this is something people might be interested in thinking about helping with.

[info]dragontamerno3: Long Beach, Ca Shindig

So I've already posted this in the FireflyFans group and some wonderful person, <lj user="Betnoir">, told me about this group.  So I wish to inform you all about the possible wonders of my Shindig.  Here ya go.[info]

Hello all of my fellow Browncoats. So I've been wanting to be a hostess to a shingdig for some time because I love Firefly and the BDM and the love I have seen Browncoats give each other is just so awesome. Theres only a slight problem, I am not aware of any Browncoats that live in my area. So if any one lives in, around or doesn't mind getting to Long Beach, California let me know so I can plan a day of Browncoat filled fun!

If no one shows up then I'll be eatin' lunch by myself, if people show up then there will be lots of browncoat love.

Date: August 6th 2006
Time: 12ish
(thats probably the time I will be awake enough to go eat something)
Place: Zen Buffet at the Long Beach Town Center
(Will give directions to those who need them)

Since I am not made of money and will not be able to provide for everyone, if you plan to eat please bring about 15 dollars... at least.

I will answer any questions any one may have about this little shindig. I'm kinda making it up as I go. And if you have any suggestions for after the eatin' happens, please feel free, ask/suggest away.

Heres the address. I'd send you a map to get there but I have no clue as to were you are coming from. So the handy dandy mapquest will help.

As for IDing ourselves, I've been thinking about that. I was debating if I want to just using my name or to rub it in and make it a Browncoat table. I think I like the Browncoat idea best. So first ask for the Browncoat table, and if for some reason they won't go for that just ask for the Sherwood table. Hope to see you there!

Zen Asian Buffet
7503 Carson Blvd, Long Beach, CA (7.15 miles away)
