Oh-My-God-What-Is-That?

It's cute anyhow. I think it needs shiney black beady eyes ^_^

I totally agree with the black bead/button eyes suggestion!! That would be rad.

Love this project. Just awesome!

And I don't understand all the fuss about the cuts! I mean, thiese are nice small images. If my tired ass dial-up (I connect at 26.6) can handle this with NO PROBLEMS, I don't see why there's an issue. This isn't killing anyone's connection.

Two small pictures, no problems.
3,000+ members with their small pictures, big problems.

please modify the entry so the pictures are behind an lj cut. it would suck for this to be deleted when the mods see it.

if you don't know how, just enter < lj-cut text="what the link says" > what goes into the cut part of the entry < /lj-cut >

do all this with no spaces between the brackets and you'll be golden. :)

Apologies for the lack of cut - I'm still kind of new to posting photos.

I made it up as I went along, but as best I can remember:
Cranium
The head was knit top-down. I CO 30 stitches and knit in the round (using 3 DPNs); I used a textured stitch based on #41 from The New Knitting Stitch Library but shortened - it went something like (P2, K4, repeat to end of round) for 4 rounds, then (K3, *P2, K4, repeat from * till there is one stitch left at the end of the round, K1) for 4 rounds, repeat until tube is about 2 inches.

Face
Round 1-2: K1 P1, repeat to end of round.
Round 3: K1, P1 but decrease by 2 stitches on each side (I used sl1k2tog psso). There should now be 26 stitches.
Round 4: K1P1 another round, making sure the Ks and Ps line up with the previous round.
Round 5: when you reach the K ridge on each side near where you made the decreases earlier, make a bobble for the eye.
Round 6: K1P1 to end.
Round 7: K1P1, yet again but make 2 new stitches on each side below the eyes (to correspond to the earlier decreases) so you're back to 30 stitches.
Round 8-9: K1P1 to end.
Round 10: K to end.
Round 11: K2 together, repeat to end of round. (15 stitches on needles)
Round 12: K2 together, repeat to end, K last stitch. (8 stitches on needles.)
Thread end of yarn through 8 remaining stitches and draw closed.

Tentacles
Randomly pick up stitches in lower part of face, thread short lengths of yarn through and knot (I used recycled yarn, so the curliness was already there.)

Stuff head through opening in the top, then thread yarn round top and draw shut over stuffing.

Body
Way easier. Knit a rectangle (about 4" by 5" or a bit smaller) in moss/seed stitch. Fold and sew the corners into arms/legs (similar to http://www.heartstringsfiberarts.com/bunny.shtm, but without worrying about the head). Leave a small opening in the tummy. Stuff, sew shut, sew head to body.

Wings
Cast on 6 stitches.
Row 1: K1, K2tog, yo, K2, yo twice, K1
Row 2: K2, K1 through back loop, K2 tog, yo, K3
Row 3: K1, K2 tog, yo, K5
Row 4: Slip 1 , P1, psso, P1, pass previous P over (you've bound off 2 P-wise and now have 1 purled stitch on the R needle),K2 tog, yo, K3

Repeat these rows 3 or 4 times then bind off. Thread yarn through the less lacy side and draw together into a fan shape. Sew to Knithuhlu's back. Make another wing.

Hope this makes sense.

D'oh, you beat me to it! Cthulhu is on my to do list. Nice job. I really appreciate that he is not inappropriately anorexic (as people tend to make him). What a cutie.

I will personally open a chapter of the Esoteric Order of Dagon in the hometown of anyone who attempts to knit Yog-Sothoth and Nyarlathotep before I do. Y'all have been warned.

I would really like to share this pattern with the Ravelry peeps. But, I want to give you credit, as it is such a great pattern. My father loved it (christmas present), but did warn me that he was "pretty sure Cthuhlu is not going to take a cute, knitted version of himself well." hee hee! Awesome. You rock. (And your pattern is very easy to follow, thanks!)
