TONY® AWARD-WINNING ACTRESS IDINA MENZEL TO HEADLINE 2008 BROADWAY BALL BIENNIAL EVENT, themed around "Wicked," supports Omaha Performing Arts Idina Menzel, winner of the 2004 Tony® Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance as Elphaba, a role she originated in the Broadway blockbuster "Wicked," will headline the Broadway Ball - Emerald Extravaganza.

Inspired by artists such as Bette Midler and Barbra Streisand, Idina Menzel’s vocal career began in Long Island, New York, where she sang at weddings and bar mitzvahs throughout her teenage years. While she is best known for her starring role as "the green girl" from "Wicked," Menzel has recently transcended genres and is now an up-and-coming singer and songwriter. Her most recent album "I Stand" was released in April 2008 [haha oops!] and features a collection of exquisite new songs, many of which Menzel penned herself. In addition to her singing career and roles on Broadway, Menzel's film credits include starring roles in the Disney romantic fable, "Enchanted," "Rent" and Robert Towne's "Ask The Dust."

Idina will be hitting the road again this fall for another concert tour!

Now that the official fan club is up and running, ticket pre-sales will be for existing fan club members ONLY, so if you haven't done so yet, click here to join today. Also, as it was on her summer tour, the meet & greet contests will be open to everyone, however, fan club members get their names entered in the drawings twice, bettering their chances to meet Idina!

Dates and locations are pending, but should be revealed in the relatively near future. Tickets will go on sale shortly thereafter. All the details will be posted here as soon as possible. If you missed your chance the first go-round, maybe this will be your turn!

Last week, Idina appeared on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. It was a particularly enjoyable interview where a discussion about "cuddling" was particularly revealing...oh, and she sang, too!

When she was in Minnesota last week for a concert in St. Paul, Idina sat down with local news station KEYC-Mankato for an interview. She discusses her music, her life on the road, the upcoming Wicked movie, and her plans for the future...all of which she found particularly amusing, apparently. ;)


There is also some professionally shot concert footage from her St. Paul show in the interview, and no professional footage has been released thus far! Way to go, Mankato!

Hey everybody!!

I was at Idina's concert in Denver on Tuesday night (the 12th) and I finally got around to posting my review!
So if anyone's interested in a very (very!) detailed commentary, some pictures from afterwards and and audio from the show, just head over to my journal!

Idina will be performing a few songs at the Nancy Pelosi event for the 500 most influential women in congress. The event takes place in Denver, CO on Wednesday, August 27th. Speakers include Caroline Kennedy and Nancy Pelosi.

I made some new icons, but this time only 3 of Idina. Next time there will be more of her again, I promise ;)

Just a quick reminder that the "I Stand" Acoustic EP went on sale today.

To everyone's surprise, the EP has appeared in the iTunes store, as well as Amazon.com as previously announced. On Amazon, you will actually save 7 cents if you buy all 4 songs together, if it makes a difference. Amazon gives an option for individual song purchases for all 4 songs, and iTunes does as well. The Canadian iTunes store, however, lists that option for "I Stand, "Gorgeous" and "Better To Have Loved," with "Brave" only available if you purchase all 4 as an album.

Also, the Canadian iTunes store seems to have a problem. It is listing the full album as $9.99, when each track is only $0.99. The American store has the correct price of $3.96. The album is $3.89 on Amazon.

Look exciting? On August 12th, which is Tuesday, an acoustic EP featuring 4 selections from "I Stand" is going on sale on Amazon.com

It should feature the 4 acoustic songs that were bonus tracks on the various special edition releases of the album, but all together in 1 place.

Idina was interviewed this afternoon by Minnesota daytime talk show, "Twin Cities Live." They have luckily posted their interview to the web for those of us who don't live in the area. There's nothing really new in the interview, but it's fun nonetheless, and she performs "I Stand." Enjoy!

I was just able to get a single ticket for the Denver show in the front row!

There are still a lot of really good pairs of seats as well - I found several sets within the first 5 rows. Apparently there hasn't been a lot of promotion for this show (I heard about it from veronicamae in the Denver community here!). What else can we do to get the word out and get these seats filled?!?
