Program Used: Adobe Photoshop 7



Note: If you don't understand something like exclusion [check my guide to PS7]. I don't know all the technical terms, but I did my best. If you checked my guide and there is still something you don't understand, feel free to ask.

[The Image Used]

Step One

-- Rotate the image 35º Counter Clockwise.
-- Crop.

Step Two

-- Duplicate the image from step one.
-- Duplicate background layer.
-- Blend mode: screen. Opacity: 100%.
-- Repeat several times.
-- Flatten image.

Step Three

-- Duplicate the image from step one.
-- Duplicate the background layer once.
-- Blend mode: Screen. Opacity: 100%.
-- Flatten image.

Step Four

-- Take the image from step three, copy it and paste it as a new layer on the image from step two.
-- Use the lasso tool (feaher 1, anti-aliased checked) to cut out the hand on pasted layer.
-- Flatten image. This base is used for the rest of the icon.

Step Five

-- Create a new layer.
-- Fill with dark blue (#082047).
-- Blend mode: exclusion. Opacity: 100%.

Step Six

-- Create new layer.
-- Fill with beige (#CDC0AA).
-- Blend mode: color. Opacity: 25%.

Step Seven

-- Copy the background layer (step four base).
-- Paste as a new layer.
-- Desaturate.
-- Blend mode: soft light. Opacity: 100%.

Step Eight

-- Create a new layer.
-- Fill with red orange gradient. (my gradient)
-- Blend mode: soft light. Opacity: 30%.

Step Nine

-- Flatten.
-- Sharpen.
-- Saturation -25.
-- Brightness -5. Contrast +10.

Step Ten

-- Create a new layer.
-- Apply texture brush: color white. (crumblingwalls brush) (On black background so you can see it.)
-- Blend mode: soft light. Opacity: 100%.

Step Eleven

-- Create a new layer.
-- Apply texture brush: color white. (quebelly brush) (On black background so you can see it.)
-- Blend mode: soft light. Opacity: 25%.

Step Twelve

-- Create a new layer.
-- Apply border brush. (quebelly brush)
-- Blend mode: normal. Opacity: 100%.

Step Thirteen

-- Create a new layer.
-- Apply a one pixel black border around the image.
-- Blend mode: normal. Opacity: 100%.
-- Flatten image.

one question - how exactly do i desature an image? i mean, what should the setting be in the hue/saturtation... thing?

June dreaming: In photoshop you can hit ctrl + u or Image> Adjustments> Desaturate and in PSP you can set the saturation to 0 when you go to colorize something.

I'm memorying this for future use since I'm on vaca.
