If you were curious how things are shaping up House-wise on Hugh Laurie's side of the pond...
UK House review in the paper (i don't know what paper, it's a cutting my mummy sent to me)
Hugh Laurie has finally found the perfect acting role. i was always irritated by his posh characters, and as the dad in Stuart Little, he was just so nice. But as a grumpy, misanthropic, painkiller addicted American doctor in House he is sensational.
The hospital drama has become such a hit in America that it's been rushed over here to start tonight [article dated April 17](Hallmark Channel, 9pm) I predict that it's going to be a huge success.
The script is sharp as a scalpel and Laurie gets all the good lines. When one of his juniors asks piously, "Isn't treating patients why we became doctors?" Laurie spits back in an immaculate American accent, "No, treating patients is what makes most doctors miserable."
Laurie must be as amazed as everyone else to discover that, for the first time in his life, his domed forehead, oblong chin and deep set eyes have a certain sex appeal on screen [die!!! die, woman!!!] As Dr Gregory House limps dpwn the hospital corridor, leaning heavily on his cane and gulping down another fistful of painkillers, [a fistful? er... no.] he must be wondering how all this happened. Even the creator of the show says that Laurie was the last person he was thinking about when he was working on the script.
House is unlike any other tv doctor I've seen. The reason he's so compelling to watch is that he's an awful lot like many of the real-life doctors I know. The ones who can't stand patients but love science. The ones who think that being a doctor is like being a clever detective. And the ones who are bored to tears as soon as they've worked out what's wrong with you.
-Charlie Lee Potter.
Yeah, offensive, much? She obviously hasn't been paying attention to Mister Laurie pre House. Stuart Little is the best example of his pre House career she could think of? gah. Plus, learn to write, woman.
Anyway, hope that amused!
