Entry tags:community announcement

Archives - Intro and Info
Greetings fellow writers! As [info]tarnationawaits has already so kindly announced, I now have the pleasure of managing the community archives. First, a few notes:

- Archives will be managed using both tags and memories. Tags are useful because they save consistency, since you can choose your tags from the drop-down menu. So once we get this rolling, members will be able to choose most tags from the drop-down menu. It's also quick and easy when you want to find other posts by a certain author, for an old challenge, or with a particular pairing FAST.

- Since it has already been established, posts will be archived by author in the community memories as well.

- If you DO NOT want your posts archived, please specify such in the NOTES section of your header.

How you can help
If you would like your work archived,

  1. PLEASE CHECK THE EXISTING TAGS LIST FOR YOUR TAG BEFORE CREATING A NEW ONE. Duplicates or incorrectly formatted tags will be deleted. This is just to make searching easier and to keep things uniform.
  2. Please include your LJ username, the challenge, drabble character(s), drabble pairing(s), and rating (if any) as tags.
  3. Hold down the CTRL key to choose more than one tag from the menu of existing tags.
  4. Please format the author tag exactly as follows:
    author: [your LJ username].
There is one space between the colon and your username.
  5. All challenges will be added to the list as soon as possible. However, if you are really fast and must create a new challenge tag, please format exactly as follows:
    challenge: [name of challenge].
There is one space between the colon and the name of the challenge. Please include the exact name of the challenge (i.e. Challenge #129 should be tagged as "The Elements" and not just "Elements") unless it contains commas. Commas cause problems, so please just leave them out.
  6. List characters' first and last names, with a comma separating each character (e.g. Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger). List pairings with slashes, separating each pairing with a comma (e.g. Harry/Draco, Ron/Hermione; Draco, Ginny; Snape, Dumbledore, Harry). In the interest of consistency, please use first and last names when at all possible. Also, please double-check the tags list before hand-typing this information. The name of a group of characters (Trio, Founders, Maurauders) is acceptable as well. Please note that a group name MAY be preceded by "The" in the tags list (e.g. The Weasleys, The Longbottoms) while others are not (e.g. Trio, Weasley Twins).
  7. Please format the rating tag as follows:
    rating: [G, PG, PG-13, PG-16, R, NC-17].
You guessed it--one space between the colon and the rating, please.

My understanding of community tags is that members are only able to tag their entries when they create a new post or edit their own existing posts. If, for some reason, LJ won't let you add a tag, just let me know and I'll be right on it.

I'm going to start going through and tagging old posts asap, so if you don't want yours to be archived, let me know.

I guess that's it...Did I miss anything? I'm looking forward to helping dust off the ol' archive and show off our collective creativity. Cheers!

Edited to Add:
Okay, so I did miss something. *oops* Permission settings have been changed, so now all members should be able to add their own tags.

I can't create new tags on my entries - it lets me add the ones already existing, but deletes any new ones I try to add, so I don't have an author tag or anything. :( I'm not sure if this is an LJ setting or if it's just me, but this may be something you want to check if you want people to add their own tags.

I just tried to go back and add my own tags (for stories with different challenges -- pain and the mauraders -- and other characters -- i.e. Lily and Lupin) and it still won't let me add my own tags. Help =(

Hello there! My name is Thyme. I am the mod over at [info]luna100, [info]dungeons100 and [info]regulus_100. I was wondering if I could ask you to add all three to your list of affiliates? Thanks.

I apologize if you receive more than one of these. I'm the mod of [info]150_comms, and I have a small database running. I was wondering if I could add [info]hp100.

This is completely random, but--the Death Eater R&R as well as the OotP R&R are very popular series and I'm sure people will be coming to read them frequently. However, because of so many folks involved, we have two tags (death eater r&r, death eaters r&R), as well as some people who haven't tagged their work (not trying to be mean, but I don't want their entries to miss out on the attention!).

I was wondering if once this week's challenge is over, could one of the mods (I actually get a 'you may edit tags on this entry' option for others' entries, and would be glad to help in tagging each entry with the same tags, if you want, but I didn't want to presume, yet) go through and make sure each one has the same tag? I don't mind if the one picked isn't the same one I picked, but I really like this series and I've been reccing it everywhere. Tags are the simplest way to ensure folks will get to see each entry.

Thank you for your time.

Hi, I'm a mod for the new community [info]10k_drabbles: The Great Harry Potter Drabble Challenge. The idea is to get one drabble for every possible pairing in the HP world, each by a different writer.

Obviously we need an insane number of participants (over 15,000). I was wondering if you'd be willing to affiliate with us, and maybe mention the Challenge in a post?

Thanks!

I am a co-runner of a new HP Fanfiction Awards Site, and I was wondering if you would mind if I could promote the associated LJ community here? One of our nominating categories is Best Drabble and right now we only have one nomination! We'd love to see more people get recognition for one of the most fun and sometimes the most difficult writing medium. If that's not something you're interested in, I can completely understand.
