Sort Me!!! You know you wanna.

1. Name:
My name, that I go by online and with many RL friends, is Luna. I had this nickname way before OoTP too, so it's not a Ms Lovegood thing. ;)

2. Age:
25

3. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Back in school again, at least part time, and working a higher level, more prominent position in the same type of administrative field I'm in now. Hopefully I've gotten some things under control, and my life is calmer & more manageable.

4. Which of the characters do you most relate to?
Harry is far and away the character I've always related to most. That feeling of being different, not belonging, etc, is pretty potent. Also, sadly, I lost both my parents at a young age, and dealt with some abusive situations as a child. No one ever locked me in a cupboard, but… yeah… let's just say I can relate to Harry's experiences and leave it at that. Incidentally, growing up, everyone told me I looked just like my mother, the same way wizards compared Harry & James.

5. Who is your favorite character from the books?
Hermione. Because I wish I could be that take-charge and capable. I have a huge soft spot for Luna Lovegood as well, even though I kinda sorta hated her at first.

6. Who is your least favorite?
It's redundant at this point, but Professor Umbridge. Gaaaaaaaaaah, Luna SMASH. Other than her, I'd have to say Grawp irritates me. I thought his character was unneccesary dead weight.

7. What would you see when you look into the Mirror of Erised?
A copy of my credit report with all my debts & car repossession magically erased. ::sobs::

8. What would your boggart be?
Probably a huge crowd of people laughing at me. Or the clown from Stephen King's IT. ::shudder::

9. Dark Magic: Tell us your thoughts. Is there such a thing? Or is magic only dark because of the motivation behind its use?
Hmmm…. I think magic can be dark on its own, but the real power lays in the intent/motivation behind it. Sort of like that saying "Guns don't kill people, people kill people," or whatever. That probably didn't make much sense.

10. On the same token, should the "Dark Arts" be studied directly or should Hogwarts continue to only teach the defensive magic used against them?
I think the Dark Arts should be taught, but only to the older students that have been hand-selected to be able to handle it.

11. What is your favorite non-Harry Potter book? Quote something from it and tell us why you chose that line.
Oh jeez. Favorite book of all time is Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell. I read it for the first time when I was 12 and have re-read it almost every year since, but it's not really a quotable book, per se. Instead I'll quote something from another favorite book, Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk:

"I just don't want to die without a few scars." That could be interpreted many different ways, but I look at it like, you have to take chances in life and be willing to get hurt in the process.

12. You overhear some students from one House plotting something to do to a group of students in another House. Neither of the groups contain students from your House. What do you do with the information and why?
Well… if it was something that sounded hurtful, that I just couldn't sit by and watch, I'd tell someone in authority. But first I'd tell a couple friends, get their input, and rally my courage. Because I'm a wuss.

13. You are sitting in your house common room when you notice that another student has left a book lying on the table. You pick it up and realize it is their personal diary. What do you do?
Well, I'd probably peek at it real quick, feel incredibly guilty, and then give it back. That's what I'd hope I'd do, at least. It's hard to say… what if the person annoyed me and I wanted blackmail fodder? Or what if I'd been having a fight with them, or what if I was attracted to that person? It would all depend.

14. Would you use an Unforgivable Curse under any circumstances?
Well, if it was a matter of saving someone from rape or murder, than yes. But it would have to be some pretty extreme freaking circumstances, and more important, I'd have to know that doing the Unforgivable would actually save the person. Otherwise, NO.

15. Do you think Harry was right or wrong to use his cloak to get to Hogsmeade in the 3rd book?
He was so totally right. Why wouldn't he have been? It wouldn't have even occurred to me to think otherwise.

16. If you could eliminate one character from the HP universe, who would you choose and why?
Um… Dudley. Yech.

17. What's one thing you would do if you knew you would suffer no consequences from it?
I think I'd go up to George W Bush and smack him upside the head a couple times.

18. Someone has graffitied a hateful remark about your House on one of the walls in the Great Hall. Luckily for you, you overhear a conversation between House elves who witnessed the perpetrator, and you alone know who did it. What do you do?
Tell someone who has the ability to fuck their Houses' shit up, sit back and enjoy the revenge. Yay!

19. Snape hates Harry by proxy James and treats Harry accordingly. Play Devil's Advocate for us and justify this.
I'm guessing it's because Harry is an easy target to hate. What with all the adoring, fawning adulation, Snape probably figures someone needs to take the kid down a couple notches.

20. What do you really think of Snape? Is he fair in the things he does?
This might be heresy to some, but what I really think about Snape is that he's a cruel, mean-spirited greasy git who needs to LIVE IN THE NOW and let go of his childhood issues.

I'm kinda with JKR on the Snape/Slytherin Love confusion. I can see where some people see Snape as mysterious and an enigma, and all that good stuff, but to me he's just the mean guy who takes points from Gryffindor. I'm being simplistic here, but you know what I mean.

"Is he fair in the things he does" - Well, sometimes. Other times, no... he's letting his petty grudges get the better of him.

21. Do you like the idea of a school being split into four separate houses? What about school unity?
It makes perfect sense to me, having different houses… the houses cultivate a sense of family and belonging. Eventually, the separate factions unite, so it's all good.

22. Which are more important: Friends or Family?
Friends… you can choose your friends, and create your own family out of them. (Of course, you have to remember that I come from a situation in which I have very few actual, biological relatives - pretty much just my sister - so I have a different perspective on this question.)

23. Rate the following in order of importance to you, from least to greatest: family, love, fame, money, power.
Fame, power, money, family, love.

24. Some people think the Weasley twins are funny, while others find them mean spirited. How do you feel, and why?
Awww, who says they're mean spirited? Whoever said that was so wrong. I love me some Fred & George. ::snuggles:: I love them because they're the comic relief, and because they've always been loyal to Harry/Ron/Hermione/Ginny etc. Also, because they gave Umbridge the big 'fuck off' in OoTP.

25. When playing rock, paper, scissors, what do you usually deal?
Probably paper. I haven't actually played that game in years!

26. IS all fair in love and war?
No.

27. Do you consider a first impression to be the only impression a person can give? Why or why not? And if we refused to sort you, what would you do?
No way dude. If I only went on first impressions I would've missed out on many great friendships over the years.

If you refuse to sort me I'd be devastated, and would cry cry cry.

28. You've been asked to invent a new spell to be taught at Hogwarts. What is the name of the spell, what does it do, and what is the incantation?
Dude, these are hard! Haven't they already invented all the spells you'd need? Okay, okay, let's see. I think I'll invent a new spell for maintaining the exact perfect brightness/room temperature surrounding you, because that's really helpful in maintaining a good study/learning environment. The spell would be called Comfortabillium. Yeah, I just totally pulled that out of nowhere...

29. Think about a negative past experience and tell us how it affected you. What did you learn from it? If you could go back and change it now, would you?
A recent negative experience would be getting into a fight online, and becoming so upset about it that I disconnected myself from all my friends... what I learned from this, I think, is that I can't let myself get *so* sucked into stuff that I lose all perspective. If I could go back, I'd force myself to balance things better and be able to keep my boundaries better defined.

Actually, I wouldn't go back and change anything... it was an incredibly important lesson that I needed to learn, and I think I'm a better person for it. ::cue sappy music::

30. If you happened across the Room of Requirement, what would you find?
Dan Radcliffe and Elijah Wood, naked? Ahem. Okay, um, less illegal forms of relaxation such as a shiatsu massage chair, along with a new paid-off car. Sigh.

31. What would you be willing to die for?
Truth/Justice/The American Way, and my baby sister.

32. If you died, would you want to come back as a ghost? Why or why not?
No... it would be too painful to stick around and watch my loved ones continue on with life, while I was stuck walking through walls and amusing ickle first years. Fly me away to the Great Beyond; I wanna see what's on the other side!

33. Finally, what house do you think you belong in?
Ravenclaw. Without a doubt. But that's up to you guys, natch.

34. Oh, and one more thing. Just to make it easier on us for pointing, who told you about us?
A good 3/4ths of my flist, including [info]bailunrui, [info]circe_tigana, [info]anniesj, [info]girlfromsouth, and [info]bubonicplague.

From your journal, I know you wanted Ravenclaw, but I'm afraid to say that I find you very Gryffindor and it is this quote that did it:

"I just don't want to die without a few scars." That could be interpreted many different ways, but I look at it like, you have to take chances in life and be willing to get hurt in the process.

Risk-taking and living life to the fullest, being unafraid of getting hurt instead of living, it's just so Gryffindor-y!

Besides, I kind of want you. I've seen you around in [info]anniesj's and [info]ponderosa121's journals and I like what I saw.

Anyway, I hope you're not angry with me over this sort! ;)

You seem to have a fun Slytherin attitude. Remember there are not full-on house stereo-types here!

You make me feel a bit inferior with just the way your present yourself (in a "wow, she's cool" way"). It seems like you have a lot of ambition, and will take a risk to defend your ideals (not just a Gryffindor quality!).

I dunno, all in all I just think that's where you'd fit in. good luck!

Smart, clever, and Gryffindor. I briefly wanted to put you into Ravenclaw, because it's obvious you're intelligent and that's where you think you should be. But taking chances in life and using the cloak to get into Hogsmeade? Maybe you do think of yourself as a wuss, but I think you'll do anything to defend what you believe is right.

You have a desire to achieve, but your "I'm a wuss" statement shifts my first thoughts on your "dying without a few scars" response - which actually speaks more of your desire for some sort of physical trophies rather than the fight it took to get them. Slytherin-esque there.
Also, the comment of you hating Grawp for being dead-weight? Totally Slytherin, and we'd be happy to have you!
