any fans of team armenia here?
yanked from japers' rink:

Finally, in a 2006 IIHF World U20 Championship Div III match Iceland defeated Armenia 50-0, thanks in part to a 20-goal third period, outshooting the Armenians 133-10. Harutyun Baluyan played the whole game in net for Armenia, making 83 saves (that's works out to a .624 save percentage). Iceland, which scored seven shorthanded goals, was led by Gauti Thormodsson (7G, 9A) and Emil Alengard (9G, 6A, 33 SOG, including 24 in the first period). The goat of the game? Either Armenian forward Aram Simonyam (who finished the game a woeful -35) or Iceland's Kari Valsson, the only Icelandic skater to not register a point. Ouch.

Let's not forget, Armenia's second game was a marked improvement. They only lost that one 21-2.
And a few years ago at the Division 3 World Championships, Thailand lost 91-0 to South Africa, a real hockey hotbed.
I feel bad for these countries. I think their time and money would be better spent trying to improve the game internally, rather than blowing their yearly budget on transportation/lodging/equipment for a tournament where they're outscored 150-2 in four games.

They lost 21-2 against Bulgaria, a real hockey hotbed.
Their next game is tomorrow against Lithuania, who is 2-0-0 so far and have outscored their opponents [Turkey and Bulgaria] 29-0. So if Armenia lost 21-2 to Bulgaria, who lost 13-0 to Lithuania.. it's going to be a long day.
Then on Sunday, they play Turkey, who lost 16-0 to Lithuania and 16-1 to Iceland. So this will basically be the battle of the bottom-feeders, and could end up being a good game, since the squads are bit more evenly matched.

Basically, Iceland and Lithuania are the only teams who have any chance of moving up to Division 2.. and once there, they will be soundly thrashed by the likes of China, Croatia, Mexico, Korea, Estonia, and Serbia/Montenegro.

www.iihf.com , click tournaments, and then you can view the standings/rosters/results from all of the tournaments. The one in question here is World U20, Division III.
Not sure where the past results are located, I'm getting those from memory and others helping.

Good lord. Thats just cruel, you'd think after 20-0 maybe they'd lay off.

Well, in this tournament, they don't have a medal round - it's just the round robin. So to advance to the next stage, you have to win the tournament by wins/losses and then goal differential. So if you get 100 goals in four games, but only finish 3-1, tied with another team, you'd have a better shot of winning by goal differential.

It's really harsh - but I guess it's the only way to do it.

30-0 after the 2nd Period, and they still want an extra 20 goals? Those Icelanders are savages. Savages, I say!!
