ca174 - Monopole - Sleepless Mind [Oct. 12th, 2008|03:58 pm]

Artist: Monopole
Title: Sleepless Mind
ca174
Date: 2008-10-12
Keywords: experimental; minimal; ambient
Tracklist:
01 - Empty, racing thoughts - 4:37 (320 kbps)
02 - Walking away from them - 5:34 (320 kbps)
03 - Sleepless mind - 4:54 (320 kbps)
04 - It was in the bush - 4:29 (320 kbps)
05 - Alone I'm when happy - 5:52 (320 kbps)

This is concept album to explore deep inside of a depressed mind. Despair, racing thoughts, constant changing decisions, and having no confidants are some of the feelings that are conveyed in this album. Now take these feelings with you on a walk in your neighborhood at night and you will get the hole premise behind the structure of all of the tracks.
The inspiration for this album comes from my own personal experiences with a debilitating condition of the mind.
The material used in this concept album are: A cheap $30 synthesizer key board, freely down loadable audio manipulation software, homemade field recording micro samples and a home built audio processor.

ca172 - adamned.age - nicht-ort - ep [Oct. 6th, 2008|03:31 pm]

Artist: adamned.age
Title: nicht-ort - ep

Date: 2008-10-06
Keywords: experimental; ambient; electronic
Tracklist:
01 - dynamischer raum - 5:36 (320 kbps)
02 - place in placelessness - 3:05 (320 kbps)
03 - non-liuex - 14:10 (320 kbps)
04 - suburban field - 5:39 (320 kbps)
05 - nicht-ort - 3:33 (320 kbps)

The EP "NICHT-ORT" takes a detailed look at so called non-places. Those places are not just the "empty rooms" but more the places without an identity, without history. It is about static places and dynamic rooms.

adamned.age (Hanne Adam), born and grown up in Hamburg in 1977, now living and working in Berlin. She already began very early practising music on piano, guitar and drums. She mainly played drums and guitar in punk- and crossover-bands and started her first solo-recordings on an 8-track-taperecorder. In 1996 she integrated computer-technology and virtual instruments and her own vocals to create her first downtempo-Trip-hop music. Intense experiments on hard- and software involved transformations of sounds and samples to click and cut-elements that have become a relevant basis for the rhythmic and percussive tracks in her whole work.
Recently she re-concentrated mainly on sound-design (an integral part of her former studies) and experimental structures and textures leading to electronica and IDM, to experimental and Ambient music. In addition, many collaborations such as remixes and multimedial projects are part of Hanneís complex musical carrier. EXurban is her constant site-project collaborating eith "die minimalistin".
Due to her immense artistic output, Hanne is often characterized as a very busy and creative person. In fact, working on musical media, photography, film, paintings, webdesign and lyric is the most essential part in her life to create means of communication with the inner- and outside-world.

"Music as a constant work in progress that serves as a liberation of mind"

New Ed Powley On Treetrunk [Jul. 19th, 2008|02:37 pm]

mystified13

Treetrunk is happy to feature another work by the amazing Ed Powley. Mr. Powleys' work takes us back to the roots of Treetrunk, where fractal and logarithmic works were featured.

According to Mr. Powley: "(To create this piece) hundreds of short samples (each shorter than 1 second) were taken from existing pieces of music, and millions of copies of those samples were layered over each other. Every part of this process was controlled by random number generators.

V/A "In Memorian Andrey Tarkovsky" [Jul. 14th, 2008|11:57 pm]

[music |V/A "In Memoriam Andrey Tarkovsky"]

Musica Excentrica proud to present our new compiliation dedicated to most impressive film-directors of XX century - Andrey Tarkovsky.

In the entire history of cinema there has never been a director, who has made such a dramatic stand for the human spirit as he did. Today, when cinema seems to have drowned in a sea of glamorized triviality, when human relationships on screen have been reduced to sexual intrigue or sloppy sentimentality, and baseness rules the day - this man appears as a lone warrior standing in the midst of this cinematic catastrophe, holding up the banner for human spirituality.

The Genius of modern Russian cinema - hailed by Ingmar Bergman as "the most important director of our time" - died an exile in Paris in December 1986.

After 22 years, passed from that year we decided to ask Kim Cascone, Astro, Violet, 833-45, Kenneth Kirschner, Astrowind, Pink Twins, Alva Noto, Nobukazu Takemura and Nikita Golyshev what do they think about Tarkovsky's phenomenon. This "musical answers" are now gathered in a big compiliation, and we invite everyone to explore it:

Netaudio Russia is proud to present 2 new relases from our label-family! Two different projects from different places on the Earth presented today and always:

Sounds like trip-hop, indietronica, post-rock...

The release of this Fauna album have been anticipated for the last four years for it is the one most complete and reflecting Fauna mood in the best way. Momentary cut of the surrounding world and feeling of eternity are equally inherent to each track of this record. Hymn to the emptiness, to its so varied phenomena is the essence and deep meaning of Have U Ever Talked To Angels?

C.P. McDill - Introspection (ambient, melodic drone) [Jun. 5th, 2008|10:59 pm]

cpmcdill

Introspection is a long-form ambient melodic (organ) drone composition by C.P. McDill (of Saluki Regicide, Djinnestan, etc). A nice all-purpose drone piece you can play quietly, loudly, or any way you please.

This is the fourth in a series of drone works which began with Foggy Dew (wh092) and Owl & Rooster (wh093). This has a warmer, bassier sound, and like its title suggests, seems quite well suited for inward journeying.

Webbed Hand presents two new (free!) netlabel mp3 releases in the dark ambient/drone category.

*Mystified - Ocean of Vapor

The prolific Mystified triumphs again with this very subtle exploration of soft drones and harmonic noises, some incorporating understated rhythms. This album is recommended for noise/drone enthusiasts.

*Audio Gourmet - Defying Science

Dark ambient, drone, musique concrete, field recordings, and orchestrated noise are all descriptions which easily fit this collection of quiet yet deep mood pieces. This is the third album on Webbed Hand by Audio Gourmet.

Taiga on Electrosound [Jun. 4th, 2008|12:29 am]

Taiga is a solo project of Denis Taiga from Saint-Petersburg, Russia, exists with a wide collaborations by other musicians. Bitter Tragic Joke is the collection of previously unreleased tracks, recorded in a period of six years, since 2002 till present days.

Sampladelic experience and ethnic eclectic jazz are the basic lines of Taiga: we can hear a lot of samples from Soviet movie pictures and cassette tapes, mixed with authentic folklore recordings and modern electronics. While mixing, the source dissolves in some kind of deep sound clew, so even musician cannot understand where does it come from... He calls this Hypno.

Started as quartet, now they are eight and they still play music totally live. All tracks were recorded without using any computers and the result sounds astonishing: full-power psychedelic jazz mixed with adjusted art-rock.

Webbed Hand Records Presents String Ambient

Announcing the release of the much-anticipated String Ambient compilation.

Our first compilation for 2008 presents a facet of ambient music that is often overlooked in favor of the more electronic or synthesized soundscapes. Here we have an eclectic collection of works featuring a broad variety string instruments, usually but not always treated to effects. In the artist credits* we’ve provided information about the instruments used, and you can see they range from the familiar to the exotic.

Psychedelic ambient and soviet analog synths! [Apr. 28th, 2008|01:08 am]

[music |Astrowind]

Musica Excentrica presents:

Astrowind — “Fresh Wind in the Valley of Dreams”

Astrowind might be a slightly ridiculous band name, especially if you consider the fact these two Latvian guys play lush ambient music on Soviet synthesizers. But nevertheless, it’s a good name. An accurate name, at least. Because there is a feel of acroamatic escapism, there are these huge chords of hissing analogue synthesizers and you can even find this special kind of Slavonian melancholia (or Baltic, respectively) people use to rave about. Astrowind bring up a lot of references in their beautiful and, well, obsolete music (text by Swen Swift).

This is the full-length album by Astrowind wich leads listener to the world of supernatural reality - the world of blossoming syntesizer-pads and carefully built soundscapes.

Compilation Call For Entries - String Ambient [Apr. 8th, 2008|05:31 pm]

cpmcdill

Webbed Hand Records will soon release another netlabel compilation, confident that this new one will be just as popular as previous WHR compilations such as To Ancient Noise [wh024], Far Afield [wh055], and Darkdrone Mix [wh050].

What we want: A collection of recordings of string-based ambient (dark ambient, drone, down-tempo etc). Low-key mood pieces in which guitar or other string instrument figures prominently. Pretty much any kind of real string instrument is permissible, but the artist/group has to be actually playing it. No sounds from loop libraries [but you may loop yourself] or sampled off records, nor synthesized/midi. Only Instruments played by plucking, bowing or otherwise vibrating actual strings, such as instruments in the guitar family, violin/cello family, lute/banjo, harp/zither, non-western instruments (erhu, sanshin, sintir etc), home-made, improvised & toy string instruments (can-jo, cigar box uke, diddley bow etc).

classic generative recording by Terry Riley [Mar. 13th, 2008|05:14 pm]

cpmcdill
Browsing around at music blogs, I came across an entry about Terry Riley's 1968 recording of "In C" which has been described by Brian Eno as one of the most important early works of generative music. In the comments part of the post there is a Rapidshare link to download the album (there's also an Amazon "buy" link there).

http://psychedelicobscurities.blogspot.com/2008/03/terry-riley-1968-in-c.html

Update: Here's an article where Eno talks about this piece as well as a piece by Steve Reich called It's Gonna Rain:

Oh, and a blog which has the Reich piece referred to:

Tunguska by 833-45 on Musica Excentrica [Mar. 9th, 2008|09:07 pm]

[music |Tunguska by 833-45]

If your familiar with the music of Kevin M. Krebs composing under is 833-45 alias, then I think that you'll agree that Tunguska might just be his most compelling work to date under that guise. Just the association of the names 833-45 and Tunguska is suggestive of the sonic power inherent to this album. On the one hand, we have 833-45 delivering his own formidable take on electronic music and the noise aesthetic, but along with that we have the powerful image of the well documented 1908 Tunguska Event in which a massive explosion (possibly caused by the air burst of large meteoroid or comet fragment) flattened over 2000 square kilometers of a remote region in Russia.

random composition freeware [Feb. 19th, 2008|07:54 pm]

cpmcdill
Just came across this freeware. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like it has a lot of promise for creating randomized compositions. Allegedly, if you point it to a directory that contains audio files, samples, loops, etc. It will select files randomly and create a multitrack recording from them.

http://www.mp3mymp3.com/the_great_kazoo.html

If you get to playing with this before I do, let me know what you thought. I'd imagine it might be better for ambient/noise samples than rhythmic, but who knows?

[music |smw014: Chikiss - Untitled Vitamin]

Share My Wings netlabel presents:

smw014: Chikiss - Untitled Vitamin

Galya Chikiss founded her band in a small town named Primorsk, in the North-West of Russia. There she met two futher members of her group, Alexander Belkov (drummer) and Alexander Dubrovin (guitarist). They began to experiment with various equipment, such as Soviet reverberators, to see how delay-loops and improvised electronica could form the basis of Galya's songs.

Untitled vitamin is an album full of warm vocal drawings, sound sometimes lo-fi, but always sincere and honest.
