EEEEEK!

Ok, this is not a big deal to anyone but me but

I CAN DO A REAL PUSHUP!!!!

I mean, I can almost do two of them properly in a row.

Last week, I could lower.. and fall to the floor.

YAY! My triceps feel a lot stronger now. I am so freakin' impressed with myself about this. :D

I just thought I would share my glee in doing a push up that wasn't on my knees.

So Things have been going well with me lately :)

Size wise Im seeing some improvement. I ordered my first corset a few weeks ago and I hadnt thought to remeasure myself so I ordered it too big. Which is bad and good lol.

Since Iv stopped taking my birth control pills I feel alot better for some reason. My doctor up here put me on the shot, She says the pill could have been the reason for my "suppossed" high blood pressure.

I think my mind is starting to become fitter in a way. Im seeing myself diffrently. I used to look in the mirror and see all the things that were wrong and now Im seeing the things that are right.

Hopefully Ill stay on the right track mentally ;)

Happy Holidays everyone

So I got home, and weighed myself, and I've lost about 8-10 lbs in the last 2 months. Which is exciting!!!! Also, I am in pretty good shape, with the running and the swimming and stuff. My clothes are fitting, for the most part, better than when I left for Vermont. My 14 year old brother said I look skinny, which is a real compliment, because he is not generally complimentary. But the point of this post was to wax poetic about the couch to 5k program and the coolrunning log in general. I combined it with 2 days per week of swimming and 1 day of weights this semester, except for the hell week of finals, I am not sure what I am going to do when I am in Spain, but the 3 day per week program has prevented me from getting shin splints, which was a problem before. So, anyone who wants to run, that is a great way to start.

I've been kind of MIA from, well, everything lately, including journaling and this community. But, one thing I did accomplish was finishing a great book. I thought I'd share this one with all you lovely ladies because it is very 'fitspirational'.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

It covers everything from women's track and field to women's full contact football. All of the women featured in this book are completely amazing and reading about their achievements is definitly enough to get me off of the couch and to the gym! It's so inspirational, and an easy read!

Wow - I had a crazy day of working out today.
After school, we have winter conditioning, where we work out for basically 2 hours. 1 hour cardio, 1 hour weights. We did an hour of step aerobics today, and it confused me more than it made me sweat.
Weight lifting )

I was just wondering, do you think that thin people have more success? Or the healthy, athletic ones? I looked around my classes today, and noticed that all the students in my honors classes were some sort of athlete. I think there were one or two that weren't, but they were still generally healthy. I didn't really have thin people in my classes, unless they were cross country runners (and even then, they've always been naturally thin).
It makes me happy to see healthy people at school. It's great motivation because I know they work hard to get better at a sport, not to look good, per se. One girl I met her freshman year, and I thought she had the most banging body. Like, it was pretty unbelievable. Then I found out she played sports year round and was a workout fanatic. That made me feel better, in a way.

It's hard work that gets you places, I guess. Not sitting around on your butt.
SO KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

So I have officially completed my 'couch-to-5k' program. I ran the 5k in just over 30 minutes... although not excellent, pretty darn good considering I just started running about a month ago.
So onto a new program. I got this one off of www.coolrunning.com. It's a program for "beginner" 5k runners who have already achieved running a 5k. There are hill workouts and speed workouts. The longest run is 6 miles (10k) and the most in one week is 20miles. This means I'll have to add a little bit to my running durning the weeks, but it will be good.
Since I'm an engineering geek I wrote up an excel spreadsheet for my training.

Excel is my friend.  )

On weight training days I will either do a 3-day split or stick with my current schedule which incorporates a mixture of exercises... not sure yet. I dont think I'll be lifting heavy, I think I'm going to go for a bit lighter weights, but to failure rather than just the standard 3 sets of 10-12 reps. I want to switch my focus a bit towards endurance training rather than lifting with minor cardio like it has been for the past several months. Along with the changes to my workout regimin I'm also going to start logging my food down in my fitday account so I can keep track of my intake. I havent been doing that for the past few months. I havent gained weight, but I havent lost any either. I need to get my arse in gear... only 5 months until my wedding!!!

And just for some self-motivation, a picture of me about a year and a half ago at 140lbs, where I want to be again (I'm now bouncing back and forth from 155-160). I've gained about 6lbs of muscle since then, but along with the muscle came the fat!
meeeeee )

...I also plan on starting to take bi-weekly photos of myself in a bikini to watch my progress.... if I have the guts, I'll post them here too for some added motivation :)

Today I took my first live yoga class! I've done videos before and stuff - but, this was AWESOME. I walked out of there feeling so great . . . I can't wait to go back! It was really nice - only 4 people in the class . . . the lights were veeery dim . . . awesome music . . . so relaxing . . . it was nice and personal. I was terrified of going in there and making an idiot out of myself, but . . . it was just so so so cool. I can't wait to see improvement. Do a lot of people use yoga for rehab? I felt kinda pathetic today - but hopefully, things'll get better.

Well I'm a WINNER!

I made my goal of fitting into a size 12 jeans by my trip to Kansas City... I still have a week to go, but a 12 fit in the midst of my water retained period. At the begginning of fall there was no way a 12 was buttoning... :)

On another note, Thursday I could not get a 14 or 16 size dress to zip, so I was totally discouraged and decided I wasn't going to he Christmas party. I thought this was weird so I pulled out my dress from last year, which is a 12 and it fits perfectly. Then I went shopping again Saturday and magically was able to fit into and zip a 14 again... Can we say water weight?? I lost 6 lbs in 2 days...

And on a completely different note, my doctor must think I am fat because he prescribed my diet pills. He doesn't call them diet pills because they do nothing to your brain to make it think its not hungry, it just doesn't let the fat stay in your body... you pass it out when you go to the bathroom, and I don't have to take them every day if I don't want to. He says if I know I am going to cheat, to take one with the cheat meal to save some calories.

But all in all, I got into the size I wanted to get into... only 4 more sizes to drop now. :) The small succsess all add up. :)

My new weight is 228.6 and my new goal is 219. I can't remember ever weighing that much so I am really excited to go for it.

I did not have any body pictures but I do have some face ones. There is a slight tilt to my head but not that much.

Using a calendar, setting up a specific daily diet and/or exercise goal and marking off each day that you accomplish it.

And at the end of the month/week rewarding yourself somehow if you have enough* days marked off.
=) Does anyone actually do that?

* Set up that number, also.

So these are the paths I have been walking every day. At least one, but sometimes two.

NOTE, between EACH major block (Jane and Keele, Broadview and Pape, Woodbine and Victoria Park) the distance measures just over 2km. W&V (The beach) is approx 4km ish total.

Extremely grueling workout due to a fight with the boyfriend/ fiancee whatever you wanna call him... The punching bag sure took a beating after I was done with cardio, but the punching bag experience wore me out so bad...

And I passed up ice cream which should be a triple bonus for me... I'm lactose intolerant and even that doens't usually make me pass up ice cream

remember the presidential fitness test? [Sep. 6th, 2005|11:26 am]

Those of you not in weird places like CANADA may remember the "Presidential Fitness Test". It was a series of six things, like running a mile, reaching your hands behind your back, situps, and pullups, that you were asked to do in gym class, and if you could do them, you got a little button. I remember that I could do, like, two - situps and flexibility. Recently, I was looking for the protocols, and I found something similar - the California Fitness Test (PDF). A hint on this: You can figure out your VO2 max on a lot of the newer cardio equipment at the gym - just select "fitness test". You should know that it's not a terribly exact measurement, though, so try it a couple of different times on a few different machines. Mine currently seems to be about 33, which is at the low range of okay or the high range of bad for my age. You should also know that your VO2 max goes down starting at about 17, so depending on how old you are, the numbers in this packet might be to high for you. For the rest of the tests, though, you should be able to do about as many situps and pushups and be about as flexible as the 16-year-old range. (Unless you're younger - I think at least one person here is 15.)

I also decided to look up some other physical fitness charts:

US Army
US Air Force (ratings)
US Marine Core
Mississippi Police Corps
Illinois State Trooper

... they're all pretty similar to one another and to the Presidential/California fitness, but I wanted to link to all of them to show that they have different standards, that just like weight there's not one absolute perfect score or anything like that. Fitness is still about feeling healthy. Also, some of them, like the last link and I think the US Army link, have suggestions for workouts you can do to prepare for the tests. It's basic running and stretching, but it might give you some ideas.

Anyway - a different yardstick to measure yourself with than weight.

How many of you don't weigh yourselves?

I think I'm going to try only doing biweekly weigh-ins, while still keeping track of calories and exercising of course... but maybe that will stave away the annoyance of the daily fluctuation in my weight.

Progress update! I have officially lost 5 pounds!! I'm so proud of myself...I've been trying to be more healthy, and not just restrictive, because I think that just makes people look sick. But I've really been pushing myself on my exercise program, and I think it's starting to pay off. I find that the more I feel proud of my progress, the more motivated I am to keep it up! So now I weigh 140 lbs, and my next goal is 135 by October 1st. Of course, all these goal numbers are subject to change, depending on how I feel about myself at any given point along the way. I'm a firm believer that the numbers don't matter as much as the fitness does.
