Artist: Bonnie Pink
Song: Last Kiss
Song: 5 More Minutes
Song: So Wonderful
Album: N/A
Genre: Japanese
Comments: I've actually never listened to Bonnie Pink before, but I must say, her voice is nice! Last Kiss is a sweet sample j-pop at its finest. Bonnie Pink's high, clear voice makes the song sound as if it belongs in an anime. Reminds me of Rie Fu's I Wanna Go To A Place. 5 More Minutes has an English chorus that reminds me of an addicting Christmassy song. Its instrumentals are powerfully mellow and upbeat at the same time, providing a good complement to her voice. So Wonderful is just a nice j-pop song that reminds me of SNOW's "I'm No," especially when she mentions the statue of liberty. She's a good artist and if you love a girl with a good voice and a pop style, then Bonnie Pink is what you're looking for.
Artist: Timbaland f. Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake
Song: Give It To Me
Album: Shock Value
Genre: Hip-Hop
Comments: I do love me some hip-hop dance songs, especially with funky beats and a great instrumental opening that makes you want to shake your booty. Nelly Furtado is back, hotter than ever, and contrasting beautifully with Timbaland's more gravelly voice (as per Promiscuous) and Justin Timberlake, all rumors aside, can take a beat and make it his own. Unlike other collaborations, this song features Nelly and Justin as much (if not more) than Timbaland himself. I honestly love this song! It's very head-bobbing worthy!
Artist: Leehom Wang
Song: Wei Yi (My Only)
Song: Wan Mei de Hu Dong (The Perfect Interaction)
Song: Can You Feel My World
Album: N/A
Genre: Mandarin
Comments: I, being lazy and minutes away from starting an entire pile of homework due tomorrow, posted my favorite Leehom songs. I love him, even though he went through style changes from album to album. His older songs lack the energy and hip-hop style that the album Heroes of the Earth has, which doesn't mean I love 'em any less. Wei Yi is an oldie--a slow, heartfelt song that has a sweet message and showcases Leehom's ballad voice very very well. You'll get it stuck in your head, I promise, especially the chorus. :) Wan Mei de Hu Dong features Korean artists Lim Jung Hee and Rain, who sing in Korean and English. The reason it's called The Perfect Interaction is because it's a slow hip-hop song with male and female flavor, in three different languages. As he's Asian-American, his English cannot be faulted! Another song with a great chorus, Wan Mei de Hu Dong is off his Heroes Album, and has a funky beat and rhythm you'll love. Can You Feel My World is the absolute first song I heard by him. It got me hooked. It's a slow rap song, with a fantastic beat and another great chorus. Wah! LEEHOM! Marry me when I turn 18!
Artist: Keane
Song: Nothing in my Way
Song: A Bad Dream
Album: Under the Iron Sea
Genre: Brit Rock
Comments: Their Grammy nomination for this album was well-deserved. Keane is a talented rock band that does not use guitar, but maybe guitar sounds from keyboards. The songs they make are emotional and atmospheric. Nothing in My Way stood out for me because it really expressed my feelings during a depressed state. Take a listen to that song if you want my life story. A Bad Dream was featured on the TV show "Scrubs" (watch it!) recently. It played while the residents finally accepted the death of fellow co-worker Laverne. Both are songs that you will likely fall in love with.
Artist: Muse
Song: Time is Running Out (High Quality)
Album: Absolution
Genre: Alternative Rock
Comments: This is Muse. If you listen to alternative rock, you MUST know these guys. This is also a good starting point for beginner rock fans. "Time" is not a warning about APs and SATs, but it sure leads me to think that way. It focuses on their favorite themes: scientific phenomena and dark reality. (It's about the end of the world, people) Absolution is Muse's most important album of their career.
