Abortion Rage
So I was emailing a copy of one of the EC/FDA articles to myself for future reference a while ago on Yahoo and decided that I'd take a look at the discussion going on. After looking through several messages I stumbled on one so misogynist I was in shock for a moment.

"Why dont you ever let the father decide if he wants to have his child. What gives you the right to decide if his baby lives or dies. It's not your body your killing. You are killing another person with a heart lungs head ect... You are just the host."

Link

What the hell? Since when are women simply hosts? We're not walking uteruses. We're women and people, not "just hosts" to little fetuses. My uterus does not define my existence, nor does it give me some sort of fate set in stone and it most definitely does not make me into "just a host".

Seriously. Women aren't just baby making machines.

And besides, no one should have a say about what women (or anyone really) do to their bodies but the women themselves.

Geez if he wanted a baby that badly, maybe, just maybe, he should have talked about wanting a baby and found some lucky woman that actually wants to have a baby with him. But no, that would be too freakin simple right?

Maybe if there were some way of getting the cells of pregnancy out of the woman in question and put them into the guy who's just a ball of paternity just busting at the seams then maybe he'd have a say in the pregnancy going through to term. Let him fucking carry it, birth it and raise it if he's so fucking gung ho.

Urgh ::headdesk::

Excellent point. People act like the 'father' is this poor guy who just wants a kid aw shucks. But, yeah, exactly. If you want a kid, you don't say "will you sleep with me", you say "will you spend the next nine months of your life endangering your health carrying my child?".

Just a host? What an idiot. What does that say about those of us who are not yet 'hosts' or people who never want to be 'hosts'? It screams that only women who have children are worth anything. Grrrr.

If women are just hosts, men are just the squat-cracker. (except most squatters i know have more sense than to a) come out with this bullshit and b) move into somewhere already occupied, which would be more of an analogy)

And that's why I'm pro choice. I simply can't reduce women in my mind to state owned incubators, and don't understand how anyone else can do it either.

if women are just hosts, are men just sperm donors?

Why dont you ever let the father decide if he wants to have his child.

I surely shall, as soon as they perfect the ability to transplant said embryo into his abdomen for gestation.

What gives you the right to decide if his baby lives or dies.

Um, not "his" baby. The lump of differentiating cells would happen to contain half his genetic material. Oddly enough, it would also contain half of MINE. And, strange though it may seem, this thing would compromise my entire body function for the nine months subsequent to conception. The physical resources of gestation alone, added to my half of the genetic contribution (not to mention the extra special resources available in the ovum that are not available in the sperm) makes this lump of differentiating cells pretty much entirely MY PROBLEM.

It's not your body your killing. You are killing another person with a heart lungs head ect...

Actually, at the usual point of abortion, there really aren't lungs, heart, "ect". There are some tissues that will eventually become said organs, and there's a head end and a tail end (complete with tail!).

You are just the host.

If I'm "just" the "host," then I have the right to remove the parasite, don't I? Or do you have this problem with, say, tapeworms?

...

Sorry, had to MST3K that.

Maybe the person would have a valid argument if they a/found one better than that or b/used proper grammar.

Honestly, now we're just empty shells that squeeze out spawn? That sickens me.

Also, OT, but icon love =3

On a feminist parenting site I once visited, a woman made the comment, "Your right to choose ends with you ejaculating inside my body."

It's so true.

There have been a couple of discussions about this online recently.

I eventually chose to have an abortion that I didn't really want because my boyfriend convinced me it would be unfair to put him in a position of providing child support or whatever just because I didn't want an abortion. I'm glad I don't have children, and that doesn't change the unpleasantness of the situation.

Don't men already have/Haven't men already had enough control over women's bodies for all of history to date? Can't we have any time being in control of our bodies before giving all the power of everything back to them?

If I'm just a host, can I call a fetus a parasite?

Hmmm... the 'pro-lifers' tend to get offended when you use such terminology.

I liked a comment someone here made months ago about men who have that attitude- if they really feel like that, they should only have sex with anti-choice women. Otherwise- why is it up to THEM to decide that someone should be a host?
