DragonCon Update for Emerald Rose shows:
*** Friday's Concourse Show has been rescheduled to 12:30 pm at the Hyatt Concourse
DRAGONCON SCHEDULE
As you know, sometimes things change, but this is the schedule as we know it for now, for DragonCon 2008. Our table will be located somewhere in the Hyatt Hotel.
THURSDAY NIGHT Aug 28 9 pm -ish MARRIOT ATRIUM Emerald Rose and The Rum Runners
FRIDAY Aug 29 12:30 pm Concert - HYATT CONCOURSE STAGE
FRIDAY NIGHT Aug 29 8:30 pm Evening at Bree Party HYATT CENTENNIAL I BALLROOM
SATURDAY NIGHT Aug 30 10 pm Serenity / Browncoats Shindig SHERATON BALLROOM
SUNDAY Aug 31 12:30 pm Concert - HYATT CONCOURSE STAGE
SUNDAY Aug 31 4 pm Live Podcast - The Signal
MONDAY Sept 1 2 pm Concert - HYATT CONCOURSE STAGE
We hope you will come by our table to say hello and see what we are up to this year. We have some new ideas for projects that we will be presenting at the con. Look for us at the Hyatt Concourse or on the floor below. We will be running sound for the bands on the Concourse, so that's is probably the easiest way to find us until we know where our table will be located.
STUPID HOBBIT TRICKS!!! Emerald Rose are seeking Hobbits, Dwarves, Elves and Humans to perform in a new part of the Evening at Bree Party at DragonCon on Friday night. The 'bit' will be called 'Stupid Hobbit Tricks' and well, that probably says enough right there. If you have a silly (but not dangerous) Tolkien-related thing that you do, email the guys at band@emeraldrose.com or see them Thursday or Friday before Bree at their band table in the Hyatt Concourse. Also seeking representatives from the Dwarven and Hobbit races for the first ever Middle Earth Quaffing Contest! No elves, though. Elves don't quaff - they sip. One representative over the age of 21 from the desired races only please. Quaffing will be done with a non-alcoholic beer substitute of great quality! Excitement! Danger! Prizes!
Finally, if you are interested in travelling to Ireland next spring, there is some new information up on our web page for Logan's 2009 tour to Dingle and Donegal at http://www.emeraldrose.com/Ireland2009/index.htm !

My lovely wife and I are heading north with our son to upstate New York. While we are there, I have booked a show at The Lyric Coffee House on Saturday July 26 at 7:30. The Lyric is in beautiful downtown Clayton Ny, just south of the Canadian border. I will be doing my normal song and tales of mystery show, but I will, of course, include some ER favorites. It should be a lot of fun so if you are anywhere near Clayton please drop by.

2:42 pm - Starbridge Celtic Festival
|

|
Starbridge Celtic Festival celebrates heritage with music, food and fun. Scotland’s Jim Malcolm and locals Emerald Rose to headline event The North Georgia mountains are a natural place to hear Celtic music. Immigrants from Scotland and Ireland brought their jigs and reels with them when they came to this area, setting down homesteads and planting the roots for bluegrass and country music. A new music festival in the Dahlonega area is celebrating our Celtic roots with a full moon lakeside concert on Saturday, July 19 from 1pm – 11 pm. The Starbridge Celtic Festival will be held at the Starbridge festival grounds, and offers a wide spectrum of Celtic music, Scottish and American food, (from Haggis Puffs to Hamburgers), art and craft vendors as well as bagpipers, Scottish fighting displays and a Birds of Prey show. Scottish songwriter Jim Malcolm and local Celtic folk rockers Emerald Rose will headline the event. Regional performers Sgian Dubh, Duncan and Sally McLaughlin, Arthur Hinds and Brian Sullivan round out the musical menu, which will commence with a Celtic Coffeehouse beginning at 1:30 pm and move to the main stage as the evening progresses. Award winning Scottish songwriter Jim Malcolm, who toured the world as guitarist and lead singer for the famed Scottish band Old Blind Dogs, will take the stage as top billing. Malcolm was named Scottish Songwriter of the Year in 2004, the same year Old Blind Dogs received the Scottish Folk Band of the Year award from the Scots Trad Music Society. He has twice performed for Prince Charles at the Palace of Holyrood House in Edinburgh, and is one of the best loved voices in contemporary Scottish music, where he has been dubbed: "The new male voice of Scotland." Drawing from his native upbringing in the Angus and Perthshire regions of Scotland, Malcolm’s rich baritone is complimented by masterful fingerstyle Celtic guitar and his amazing talent with the harmonica. Recognized as one of Scotland’s leading harmonica players, Malcolm weaves pipe tunes and haunting melodies evocative of the bagpipes into his deeply emotional songs. Pulling from diverse sources; the works of Robert Burns, episodes of Scottish history, or his passion for fishing the lochs and rivers of his native country, his music is powerful and moving. This is a unique experience for fans of Celtic music, and an opportunity to spend an evening with a true master of the genre. Emerald Rose is a high energy Celtic band hailing from Dahlonega. They are regular performers at the Crimson Moon and have toured for the past twelve years across the US and in Ireland. The band is best known as the headliners for the Lord of the Rings post-Oscar celebrations in Hollywood, and their original music has been used in movie soundtracks and on national television commercials. They are regular performers at Atlanta’s DragonCon, and perform at Celtic festivals and fantasy conventions all across America. The Starbridge Celtic Festival is a new heritage festival produced by Brian and Donna Sullivan, owners of the land. Starbridge is also the location for the annual HemlockFest, an environmental music festival to benefit hemlock research, put on by the Lumpkin Coalition. The site features a five acre lake for swimming and fishing, surrounded by lush Georgia forest. An assortment of food and craft vendors will gather at lakeside, and entertainment will be provided at the Celtic Coffeehouse, outside the 100 + year old cabin left by the earlier inhabitants of the land. Scottish fighters from the SCA will present demonstrations of combat with cape and rapier. Scottish food like haggis puffs and bridies will be available, along with more familiar American fare. Attendees might want to bring a blanket or lawn chair, as well as a swimsuit and sunscreen. A Georgia fishing license is required to fish in the lake, and lifeguards will be on duty for swimmers during the day. The festival starts at 1 pm on July 19, at the Starbridge Festival grounds, on Starbridge Road, just off Highway 52 East, between Old Dahlonega Highway and Copper Mine Road. Suggested donation to the Festival is $20 for adults, $10 for kids 6 – 15 and seniors, while kids 5 and under are free. Contact the Starbridge Celtic Festival at 706 864-0882 or email them directly at donna@emeraldrose.com for more information.

Emerald Rose is getting ready to head to the Greenville Scottish Games this weekend. ER will be there friday and saturday. Greenville is a cool town. The place went through a rebirth in the last ten years and now has a vibrant downtown. This weekend's games are actually just north of Greenville on the grounds of Furman University. We played at a celtic festival in downtown Greenville a few years ago in Falls Park The center piece of the park is a most amazing pedestrian suspension bridge with a slanted support beam system. We have never played at the games before but they are supposed to be pretty big. I know that the music will rock because they have Hunting Mcleod as well as Albannach. Albannach is a very exciting drum heavy band with a tribal beat and dueling pipers. I am really looking forward to seeing them live for the first time. I hope to see some of the SC LJ folks there.

Well I just uploaded the final versions of all the cuts to soundclick. Included is a new studio version of ," Never Underestimate." There wasn't really a studio version of this song available, so I recorded one with the boy's blessing. This was the first "hit" for Emerald Rose. I hope you like the new version. I should have factory burned cds in a couple of weeks and the regular pressed ones in 6 weeks. Woot!

I have been a busy pagan musician and popped some more tunes up on my music page on soundclick. Do the Round Thing is a bopping new-country song about having to use euphemisms among the muggles. In this case it refers to casting a circle. Also new is a tender love song- "My Emerald Rose". Listen is now #11 on soundclicks' blues rock chart. Chartin' with a pagan song wooo hoooo! I am basically done with the cd, "Poetry of Wonder" and I hope to be able to put it where folk can get it real soon.

I just put three more songs up on Soundclick Circle of Love---. Its a story song about how two seekers found the pagan path and subsequently each other. I must admit that you can hear the Jackson Browne influence here. Blood of Summer-- A song about the connection between all life and all time. Yeah, I know its a light subject. Pantheon-- A chant for both god and goddess.... Hear the original from of the chant that became "Freya Shakti."

Finally, a personal note from Brian "Logan" Sullivan... As some of you may know, my mother passed away this past November from cancer. My father passed away this past Tuesday of kidney failure. It has been a difficult time for me and no small hardship to the scheduling of the band. My family and I would like to say thank you to everyone for your support and patience during the hard times of this past year. We especially would like to thank Emerald Rose and the members of our community who stepped up and helped us with the running of festivals, performing shows so that I could be with the people who needed me, and helping out with the necessities of everyday life. We appreciate your efforts, your kind thoughts and your gracious words of condolence.

So Mr Hinds what exactly is a house concert? Well you could just throw a party and I would not mind being hired to play at it.:) You would not, however, have the essence of a house concert. It can be both easier and more difficult than just a party. You are less of a host and more of a mini concert promoter. Here are some links to better explain You can host a house concert How to host a concert in your home and some how to videos I would play two sets of 45- 60 minutes with time to talk and mingle. I will probably be less celtic and more pagan story teller/ singer songwriter, but that can be discussed. I have lots of stuff that you have never heard me sing, and a couple of new arrangements of ER favorites. I may require less of a financial guarantee than you imagine. If you want to talk about it , post here or perhaps better email me arthur@emeraldrose.com. The crash commercialism is now over. lol
