 | 09:34 am - looking for an excuse to write Earthsea fic?
majoritython, a ficathon about women and people of color in positions of political power.
A quick look through the Earthsea novels reminds me that I can't think of anyone in this fandom in a position of political power who *isn't* a person of color or a woman. So, any takers?

 | 05:00 pm - Challenge 14 Theme: Women Letter: E Quotation:
my heart's grown heavy, my knees will not support me, that once on a time were fleet for the dance as fawns. This state I oft bemoan; but what's to do? Not to grow old, being human, there's no way.
Sappho (transl. Martin West)
Challenge responses may use any of the three individually, or two together, or even all three, if you're feeling in the mood. The letter can be a person, place or object with that initial letter (Isolate Tower has a lot of suggestions), or whatever you will.
Challenges remain open indefinitely; previous challenges can be found in the memories. If you'd like to suggest a challenge, or even take over doing them, do comment!

 | 01:01 pm - Resuming community challenges: Challenge 10 Spurred by the interest in Earthsea at yuletide, I'm restarting the challenges. I plan for three prompts:
(a) A theme (b) A letter (c) A quotation
The letter can be a person, place or object with that initial letter (Isolate Tower has a lot of suggestions), or whatever you will.
Challenge responses may use any of the three individually, or two together, or even all three, if you're feeling in the mood.
So, for now, Challenge 10:
Theme: Resolution(s) Letter: A Quotation:
I had seen birth and death, But had thought they were different. ('The Journey of the Magi', TS Eliot) As before, challenges remain open indefinitely; previous challenges can be found in the memories. If you'd like to suggest a challenge, or even take over doing them, do comment!
May your new year be filled with magic!

 | 11:32 am - New Year's Resolutions challenges
yuletide has three Earthsea challenges in their New Year's Resolutions 2007:
Recipient: Aimeek Characters: Any Details: I read a really good crossover between Earthsea and BtVS, and I'd love to read another one
Recipient: Minerva McTabby Characters: Ged, Jasper Details: Ged/Jasper slash preferable; gen with those characters would also be lovely.
Recipient: Smaragdvogel Characters: Ged, Vetch (no details)
Anyone can participate in NYR. It runs until the next Yuletide starts (usually around November), although filled requests are removed from the list. Stories must be 1000 words minimum and contain all the listed characters.

 | 03:35 am - Recommendations from Yuletide There are a couple of lovely Earthsea stories at yuletide this year. Though they're very different from each other, the two share a strong canonical feel.
Lighting the Lamps, by solvent90 'After the desert and the dark, the bright complexity of village life had been a strange new pattern to learn, a maze she stumbled in, feeling young and awkward and foreign.' A quiet, unsentimental vignette, with excellent characterisations (Tehanu)
The Veins of the Forest, by ellen_fremedon 'Metteir wore the crimson standard as her cloak all winter and spring. And when in summer she bore a son, she swaddled him in it, and she called him Azver, which is 'war-banner' in the Kargish tongue.' Luscious prose studded with precise details characterises this backstory (The Farthest Shore)
If anyone has yet to discover it, the While We Tell of Yuletide Treasure archive has more Earthsea tales from previous years, plus many other literary & fantasy fandoms

The only entrance requirement is being at least 18 (unless you've previously defaulted), and sign ups close on Thursday 2 November.

 | 08:06 am - More Tenar Fic I posted this story awhile ago on FFnet, and for some reason never got around to posting it here. It's the final installment in what has become a loose trilogy about Tenar’s life on Gont. I’ve always been fascinated by the gap between the Tombs of Atuan and Tehanu, and these stories were my way of trying to bridge the distance between Arha and Goha. That said, this story is theoretical, not canonical. Chronologically, it could never happen. I’ve stretched some time frames and squished others, so that the events I wanted to meet could. Also, the Master Hand in the story is not intended to be the character who appears in A Wizard Of Earthsea or Le Guin’s later works.
Standard Disclaimers Apply: Tenar and the universe of Earthsea belong solely to Ursula K. Le Guin, and this story was written solely for amusement, and not profit.

Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: AllShould we allow fiction based on Earthsea adaptations? Do comment if you feel strongly on the issue. I'll leave the poll open for a couple of weeks.
