    North Texas Pagan Pride Day

Well it has been an incredible few months! We are finalizing plans for North Texas Pagan Pride Day 2008 and I for one am extremely excited about this years festival! I hope that you will be able to make it out and enjoy at least part of the day with us.

    Here are the details:

    North Texas Pagan Pride Day

    www.ntxppd.org

Unitarian Universalist Church of Oak Cliff

    3839 W. Kiest Blvd

    September 13, 2008

    10am – 10pm

Visitor parking will be across the street at the Cliffwood Church of Christ. The west parking lot will be reserved for vendor parking and the east parking lot will be reserved for handicapped parking and performers.

For vendors and volunteers setup will begin at 9am.

Do you think you have the greatest chili in the metroplex?  Bring a pot and we’ll test it out! Judging happens at 2pm in the Main Hall kitchen. After the judging we will offer bowls of chili to be purchased for $3 a bowl with all the fixings. Check the website for details on categories.

We have several workshops and performances to choose from as well as many vendors to make your shopping heart glad. All the details are available on the website. The schedule of events has been uploaded to the website as well.

There will be a raffle going on, must be present to win. We will do 2 drawings during the day. There will be a silent auction as well. Last bids will be taken at 7pm and winners will be announced at 8pm. Purchase price is due at this time. We will have Pagan Pride bracelets for sale as well as FEED the PIG stations set up. In addition to all of that (whew! Yes there is more!) we will be taking orders for a North Texas Pagan Pride Day t-shirt. The shirts will be black with our wonderful new logo in green. The cost for the shirts will be $20. Expect a possible 6 week turn around.

We would also like to ask that, if you are able, bring a case of water or a couple bags of ice to donate to the water stations located throughout the event. And don’t forget your food donations for the North Texas Food Bank. Be sure to check out the websites of our featured charities. They need our help!

To bring what I know is going to be an awesome day to an end we will pack everything up around 7pm and bring out the instruments and commence to drumming and dancing. There will be spinning performances happening during the drum jam so it should be very exciting!

For all the details you would ever want, please visit the website. If you have any questions email ntxppd@gmail.com

    NFL Ticket?
I am looking for a sports bar/restaurant for this coming Sunday that has two things, wifi and has the NFL Ticket.  We generally go to Buffalo Wild Wings, but when I asked them if they had the NFL ticket, not one person knew what I was talking about and having that is important to my husband and his group of friends.  Does anyone know of a place that fits these two requirements?

    Bike-repair advice sought.
Can anyone recommend a good bicycle-repair shop in the Dallas area? I picked up a bicycle at a garage sale for next to nothing, but it needs a lot of work, and I don't know what I'm doing. The chain is rusty, the brakes stick, both tires are flat, etc. I want to get it roadworthy as soon as I can (my daughter just got her first bike for her 6th b-day and she's getting the hang of it so quick that I need to get moving on this), and I'm willing to spend some money because the bike itself was practically free, but I want to take it somewhere that will do a good, reliable job (part of the issue is that I'm a big fat guy, and I'll probably be stressing this bike a bit - grin).

I'm in northeast Dallas -- Lake Highlands, just outside of the Garland city limits.

Free motorcycle stuff, etc in Farmers Branch
I have a mostly full gallon of Honda SAE 10W-40 SJ Motorcycle oil, and a new, unopened, still-in-the-bubblewrap air filter for '88 Honda NT650. I haven't had the motorcycle for a year and a half, so there's no sense in keeping these around, too.

    Also:
11.3 oz can of Honda carb cleaner, unopened
    Two Honda NT650 spark plugs
    One headlight bulb for same
Brand spanking new oil filter for same

These are all free. No pics, and I will not hold for anyone. First come, first served. Email me for the address (again, I'm in Farmers Branch), they'll be in a box on the front porch.

Also free on the porch: two polished brass single-light fixtures, complete with hurricane glass and all the parts. I'll even throw in the light bulbs. They work fine, I just installed new ones today and have no need for these. Again, no pictures, I won't hold them, they're FREE.

Also for sale: Joe Rocket Ballistic jacket, womens small. (Not free, for sale.)

    Speaking of Energy...
If you're interested in trying to save a few bucks on your electric bill every month and would rather that "marketing" portion of your bill go to a fellow Texan rather than the CEO of your current electric company, shoot me an email at andrew75 AT gmail DOT com or check out http://aharrison.igniteinc.biz for more details. Even if you're locked in to your current provider or aren't in a deregulated area, it's also a great opportunity to get in on it yourself and help the folks you know save some on their bills while making a little for yourself.

    Texas Energy Rebate Programs
Can't remember if I posted this or not and don't really have time to look. A Coworker just asked for it again, and since I know some of the rebate deadlines are coming up quick, I thought it might benefit some of you.

Who is your energy provider? In Texas there are tons of neat programs out there to conduct (in some cases) free or highly discounted Energy efficiency audits and then the repairs or replacement of anything from insulation to new windows, etc.

This is the provider my friend’s boss used: 888-399-cool

    http://www.acoolerhouse.com/ps_utilityrebates.php

He said they did the footwork to find him a program and he didn't have to pay a penny.

There are different types of programs available, I knew we wouldn't qualify for the low income stuff, but apparently, the other programs only require that you own or are buying your home. So, I began to research.

According to this:http://www.texasefficiency.com/ The way it works with the service providers listed there, they get paid by the State via the electricity company. Cool, huh? In Garland, we are forced to use Garland Power & Light, who doesn’t participate in the State Program, but DID have a rebate program, but there was a timeline on it: Sept 30th or when the $ runs out, whichever comes first. It took a little research, but I quickly found someone to help us. They had someone come out and perform a Free Energy Audit and gave us a list of approved providers. We pay up front and then get rebated for a portion of it. I should note that using a Service Provider is required for most of these programs. They also gave us a ton of suggestions on cheaper ways to make improvements w/out the expense of installation, etc. Depending on the rebates available, sometimes, that’s best. This is why I suggest going through your energy Provider first to see what your options are.

Private Karaoke Rooms In The DFW?
Hi. I am trying to find a place with private karaoke rooms in the DFW area. I'm in Denton, but am more than happy to drive up to an hour if I can find someplace worthwhile. Bonus points times a gerzillion if they serve sushi and/or allow you to bring your own food/drink.

    rehoming gerbils :(
i have 2 female gerbils that need to find a better home than what i provide.
they have a 10gal aquarium, with a fitted mesh lid, to live in.
lots of toys, food, treats, but not enough attention.
i am wanting to find them a new home, free of cost (to the new owner).
i will send them with a new bag of healthy food, their home (including silent spinner wheel, water bottle, small homes to hide in, bowls for food & treats), and an almost full bag of aspen bedding.
they are both sweet, loving & entertaining friends.
i work too much, though, & have a cat who is very interested in them.
it's been a lot of stress to keep the cat & gerbils apart.
anyone who is interested, please reply here, or message me over aim, at lolalovesopi.
i am including a few pics under a cut.

You know what really grinds my gears? People who order specialty items in the fast food drive through - at the window. At peak hours. And can't find their wallet.

This is a little like pushing a cart laden with $200 worth of groceries through the only express checkout lane the afternoon of the 4th of July when all the other lanes are full too, screwing over the people who actually have 15 or less items. Especially when you want to write a check (or you count your change out to the penny! ugh! who DOES that?), and everyone else already has their credit/debit card ready to go.

Seriously, think of others. If there are 6 cars (that have all lined up since you ordered at the window 12 minutes ago), ask if you can pull forward and have them bring it out to you. Or go inside and order like a normal person. WTF.

Maybe if you have several hyperactive 8 year olds in the minivan, then I can understand being wary of letting them loose in a restaurant. But two full grown adults who grew up with fast food and drive throughs? Show some fucking courtesy people.

I'm talking to you, Mr. and Mrs. Tan Chevy Suburban in the Burger King drive through.

    Flowchart:
    Burger/Fries/Coke order?
    Yes ---> drive through ok
No---->Is the drive through busy? Yes---> go inside! or pull forward asshole!
    No--->Drive through ok
